Chapter 23: Pushing the Car

Words : 1728 Updated : Nov 28th, 2024
At the entrance of the Sugartree Bar, Terry lit a cigarette and glanced occasionally at the intersection. Donald, the top gentleman of Jadeborough City, suddenly made an appointment with him. It left him pleasantly surprised. The Liamsole family made their fortune in the underworld, with some influence and connections. However, compared to the well-established old-money conglomerates like the Linola family, they were hardly worth mentioning. Ordinary people didn't even need Terry to personally greet them, but he dared not be negligent toward Donald. As he waited, he pondered why Donald would suddenly seek him out. Suddenly, a Lamborghini supercar raced up like lightning and stopped in front of Terry. Donald got out of the car. Having seen Donald before, Terry immediately discarded his cigarette and approached, bowing respectfully and addressing him as "Mr. Linola." Donald glanced at him and nodded slightly. While Donald might defer to others in front of Douglas, he had no regard for gentlemen like Terry. If it weren't for Douglas wanting to see Terry, he wouldn't bother dealing with such people. "Mr. Linola, I'm ready. Shall we go inside and talk?" Donald waved his hand. "Wait, there's someone else. Actually, it's not me who wants to see you, but someone else wants to see you." Terry was shocked. Who could make Donald, such a top gentleman, wait at the door? "Mr. Linola, who exactly wants to see me?" Donald replied indifferently, "You'll know soon." Terry dared not ask further. After a while, Donald suddenly said, "Here he comes." Terry turned to look and felt a chill run down his spine when he saw the cute little car slowly approaching. He felt like running away on the spot. He was too familiar with this car. More precisely, it was the owner of this car that terrified him to the core. When Douglas was about twenty meters away from them, he stopped the car. It wasn't that he didn't want to move forward. The car had run out of battery. He hadn't charged the car since he bought it, and he didn't pay attention when he left just now. It barely made it to the bar entrance before completely breaking down. Douglas rolled down the window and leaned out. "Mr. Linola, can you give me a hand? The car has no power. Could you push it a bit?" Push the car? Donald was momentarily stunned but didn't think much about it. He walked over and said, "Douglas, why not just change to another car?" Douglas smiled. "Forget it, I don't mind. The key is that Lynette likes this car." Actually, Douglas was thinking he would be glad if Donald could allow him to pick a car from his garage. After all, he enjoyed freeloading. Terry hurriedly ran over, greeted Douglas with fear and respect. Douglas nodded. "Help me push the car into the parking spot." Terry nodded hurriedly. "Mr. Wellington, did you bring the charger?" "What?" Douglas didn't react at first. "The charger for this car." "I did." Terry said, "Then let me push it to the bar entrance and charge it. I remember this car can be charged with a 220v household electricity." "Alright, then let's push it up front." So, Donald, the top prestigious lad of Jadeborough City, and Terry, the underground overlord, pushed Douglas's car with all their might. The security guards at the bar entrance were stunned. They didn't recognize Donald, but they knew Terry. Their faces were full of shock as they speculated about Douglas's identity. They were wondering what kind of person could make Terry push a car. Two security guards snapped out of it and hurried over to help. The car was pushed to the bar entrance, and Terry had the security find a long enough extension cord and plugged the car in. "Mr. Wellington, Mr. Linola, please come in." Terry nodded and bowed respectfully. As they entered, he instructed the security, "Take good care of the car. If it gets scratched, I'll twist your heads off." The two security guards were startled and nodded repeatedly. Terry led Douglas and Donald to a private room. "Mr. Wellington, Mr. Linola, what would you like to drink? Let me have it prepared." Terry asked eagerly, trying to please. Donald looked at Douglas. "I'll go with your choice." Terry was shocked. What was Douglas's identity exactly, to make Donald, such a big shot, so obsequious? Douglas thought for a moment and said, "Just beer." Terry hurriedly ordered the drinks. Douglas looked at Terry and gestured for him to sit. "Have a seat." "Thank you, Mr. Wellington." Terry sat down cautiously. Feeling uneasy, he wondered why Douglas wanted to see him. "Mr. Wellington, may I ask what instructions you have for me?" Douglas said indifferently, "Help me find someone." Terry breathed a sigh of relief. So, it was about finding someone. Well, he was good at that. "May I ask who you're looking for, Mr. Wellington?" "Edward Zolaris. He should be in his forties this year, not tall, slightly dark skin, with a small black mole the size of a soybean on his chin..." Douglas paused and said, "That's all I know." Terry asked, "Is he from Jadeborough City?" Douglas nodded slightly. "Mr. Wellington, rest assured. As long as he's still in Jadeborough City, even if he's hiding in a mouse hole, I'll find him for you." Douglas took out his phone and said, "Give me your account number." Terry hesitated for a moment, but didn't dare to ask more questions. He opened his wallet, took out his card, and read out his account number. After a while, Douglas put away his phone and said, "I've transferred fifty thousand to you as compensation for your efforts. Once the job is done, I'll give you another fifty thousand." Terry jumped up in shock and said anxiously, "What? Mr. Wellington, I can't accept that. How can I take your money?" Douglas pressed down his hand, making Terry sit down. "One thing at a time. You help me find someone, and I pay for your efforts. It's a fair deal." Furthermore, this one million was originally extorted from Terry before. Now it was just returning to its rightful owner. Terry said earnestly, with a tremble in his voice, "Mr. Wellington, it's my honor to assist you. But this money..." "Don't waste your breath. Take it," Douglas interrupted firmly. Terry dared not refuse anymore. "Thank you, Mr. Wellington." Donald curiously asked, "Miracle Doctor Wellington, why are you looking for Edward? You don't need to go through so much trouble. I can find him through my connections." "Not easy to find to him through official channels. He was involved in the accident that killed Lynette's mother, and he escaped afterward. Even the police couldn't find him at the time." Douglas paused, squinted his eyes, and continued, "That car accident wasn't an accident. Someone was behind it. I suspect Edward was hidden by someone or has been silenced." Only then did Donald understand why Douglas wanted to find this person. Suddenly, he thought of something and said, "Could the one behind instructing Edward be someone surnamed Lee..." Douglas coughed, and Donald immediately stopped speaking. It was not that Douglas didn't trust Terry. It was just better if fewer people knew about this matter. "Terry, remember, this person may have changed his name." Terry nodded. Douglas said, "Once you find this person, keep him under tight control and keep it a secret. Also, find someone reliable to handle this. Confidentiality is key." "Mr. Wellington, rest assured. I understand!" Terry reassured, patting his chest. Douglas looked at him, and his gaze suddenly took on a peculiar twist. He teasingly said, "If this matter is handled smoothly, I can cure your hidden illness."
