Douglas?
Cary and Eva were no strangers to this name. When Pinnacle Group was founded, they worked with Douglas until Pinnacle Group grew stronger, and their contributions were indispensable.
The two looked at each other, unable to conceal their shock.
Wasn't Douglas dead?
They deeply admired Douglas. When Sammy announced Douglas's accident, they were saddened for a long time.
Cary tentatively asked, "Chairman Lee, is the one you mentioned..."
Sammy glanced at him with a sinister look. "Yes, it's the one you're thinking of. Douglas is not dead. He's still alive."
Cary and Eva were wide-eyed, their faces full of astonishment.
Blanche said, "Mr. Yolanda, Miss Qirstein, I'll explain this matter to you later. You two should leave for now."
They nodded and left.
"Mr. Yolanda, I can't figure it out. Several years ago, Chairman Lee said Douglas was dead. Why is he alive now?"
Cary shook his head slightly, pondering as he said, "I don't think this matter is that simple."
Eva said, "Chairman Lee just said those cooperative partners suddenly terminated cooperation with us, all because of Douglas's trick. It seems that something happened back then that we didn't know about. Pinnacle Group was established by Douglas. If it wasn't for a major grudge, he wouldn't target Pinnacle Group."
Cary narrowed his eyes, sneered, and said, "Who benefits the most from Douglas's disappearance?"
"The biggest beneficiary when Douglas disappeared was Sammy, of course. Not only did he get Douglas's shares, but also with Miss Yarborough..."
"That's right. Sammy behaved very unethically in this matter." Cary interrupted Eva's words, paused, and continued, "Perhaps Douglas's target wasn't Pinnacle Group, but Sammy."
Eva smiled and responded, "It seems like Chairman Lee is in trouble. We both know Douglas's capabilities. It's just that Sammy has treated us fairly well these past few years. If..."
"There are no 'ifs'." Cary interrupted her again, saying, "He treated us well because we still have utility value. It's hard for ordinary people to replace us. He didn't spare a single colleague who joined in with us back then."
"I've been with Pinnacle Group since its inception. If it was led by Douglas, Pinnacle Group would probably have soared long ago, instead of stagnating for several years."
"If it weren't for having a large family to support, I would have left after Douglas's accident."
After Cary finished speaking, he sighed and shook his head with a bitter smile. Then, he turned around and left, cursing under his breath, "Damn life! It doesn't allow me to be willful."
Eva was stunned for a moment and smiled faintly. Who among them hadn't chosen to stay simply because of life's expenses?
In the office, Blanche looked at Sammy with displeasure in her eyes. "Now we're in a tight spot. One wrong move and Pinnacle Group will be a thing of the past. How do you plan to solve the current dilemma?"
Sammy's face was grim, his eyes sinister.
"Don't worry! I'll figure it out. I won't lose to Douglas."
Blanche frowned and replied, "You keep saying all this was done by Douglas, but do you have any evidence?"
Sammy sneered, "Apart from him, I can't think of anyone else. Only Douglas has a reason to deal with us."
Blanche sighed deeply. "I have a way to solve the current dilemma."
"What is that?"
"Sell the piece of land you bought this morning at a low price, turn it into money, and let the construction site start work first."
Sammy's eyes flickered as he angrily said, "But that piece of land is worth less than three hundred million. Who would be foolish enough to pay four hundred and fifty million for it?"
After Sammy finished speaking, he froze. He finally realized that he was the fool. Wasn't he?
"I mean sell it at a low price. Even if only half of its value, it's enough to tide us over for a few days. You gotta understand, a day's halt at the construction site means an irreparable loss for us."
"That piece of land may lose more than two hundred million, but if those three high-end residential areas are built, we won't just earn two hundred million, but several times that."
Sammy clenched his fists and reluctantly nodded.
Just as Blanche was about to say something, her phone vibrated. She picked it up and glanced at it. It was a message from an unknown number, saying, "Five o'clock, Zion Cafe. It concerns the survival of the Yarborough family. Come alone, and don't be late."
Blanche couldn't help but frown. Who could it be?
But if it concerned the survival of the Yarborough family, she had to be cautious.
However, since the appointment was at a cafe, a public place, she shouldn't be in danger.
Blanche decided to meet with this person.
"What's wrong?"
Sammy noticed Blanche's unusual expression and casually asked.
"Nothing!" Blanche chose to conceal it.
...
...
In Linolashire, at Douglas's home, after Donald hung up the phone, he belched ungracefully. Then, he leaned back in his chair with his face satisfied.
"Miracle Doctor Wellington, I feel like if I come to mooch a few more meals, my weight will skyrocket."
Douglas smiled and replied, "No, I've specially balanced it. The calories from the food you're eating will offset each other. A little exercise and you won't gain weight."
"Is it that magical?" Donald sat up straight, saying cheerfully, "Then I'll have another bowl."
Douglas was speechless.
Donald served himself another full bowl of rice, eating while mumbling unclearly, "It's delicious. Just thinking about how full we are eating here, Sammy that fool is probably regretting his life decisions right now. I feel so happy!"
Douglas looked at him and asked, "Is it related to the call you just received?"
"Miracle Doctor Wellington, you're truly extraordinary. Yes, you guessed it right away. I just received a call. Several companies cooperating with Pinnacle Group unilaterally announced the termination of cooperation, and those bosses have all gone missing. I bet Sammy's face is looking worse than if he'd seen a ghost."
Douglas's lips curled up slightly. He was in a good mood as he said, "I owe you a big favor for this matter, Mr. Linola."
Only Peter was capable to unilaterally terminating cooperation with several companies cooperating with Pinnacle Group,
Donald ate his meal heartily and muttered unclearly, "I can't wait to see Sammy's current expression. It must be quite a spectacle."
"You two suit yourself. I have something to attend to this afternoon, so I'll leave first."
Angelia suddenly said.
"Lynette, I will come to see you after I'm done, okay?"
"Mm." Lynette nodded obediently.
"Angelia, I will miss you. Remember to come and play with me, okay?"
Lynette reluctantly accompanied Angelia to the door, watching her car drive away before returning.
Donald looked at Douglas and smiled. "Miracle Doctor Wellington, have you ever thought about finding a mother for Lynette?"
Douglas was slightly surprised. He hadn't thought about this issue.
"Lynette is still young, you can take care of her. But when she grows up, even if you're her father, there may be many inconveniences sometimes. There should be a woman at home."
Douglas nodded slightly. Donald's words made sense. He smiled and said, "Let's take it slow! This isn't like buying groceries. You can't just throw money at it and expect to get what you want. It's all about fate."
Donald was about to ask Douglas about his feelings toward Angelia, but before he could ask, he heard Douglas say, "Mr. Linola, there's something I need to trouble you with."
