Morning, 8:21, Jefferton Province First Republic Hospital, outside the Emergency Room.
"Fabricio, I only have five thousand dollar. I've transfered it to you, remember to check it later."
"Fabri, I just transferred you ten thousand, did you receive it?"
"..."
"Brother, how much more do you need?"
Wiping away tears, Fabricio said bitterly, "380,000."
"What!?" The voice of his second eldest brother, Davey, sounded stunned from the other end, "380,000!? This... is so much?"
Exhaling heavily, trying to dispel the inner panic and anxiety, Fabricio shook his head and said, "Let's not dwell on that, I still need to continue borrowing, let's talk about it later."
"Okay. I will also try my best to help you get some..."
As he hung up, Fabricio was about to open his contacts when an unexpected call came through. Startled for a moment, he immediately answered, "Kocsy..."
Before he could finish, the other person coldly interrupted, "I heard that Waimarie York was in a car accident and is receiving emergency treatment now?"
"Yes." Fabricio didn't detect the oddity in his girlfriend's voice and hurriedly said, "One leg bone is broken, severe concussion, blood clotting compressing the nerves, requiring a craniotomy. The doctor just mentioned that the surgery and associated costs might total around 500,000. I've only managed to borrow 120,000, Kocsy, could you help me borrow some more..."
"Huh?" Without letting him finish, Kocsis exclaimed, "Me? Help you borrow money? To save your childhood friend? Fabricio, have you lost your mind?"
"Childhood friend?"
His brows instantly furrowed, and Fabricio said angrily, "She is my sister. I have told you this before..."
"Whatever you say."Kocsis seemed uninterested, she waved her hand impatiently and said coldly, "Anyway, I just called to tell you, let's break up."
"What!?"
His eyes suddenly widened, and Fabricio jumped up from the chair with a sudden noise, shouting, "Why!?"
"You have the nerve to ask? Fabricio, it's been almost half a year since we graduated, look at yourself, what are you doing? Delivering food?"
"What's wrong with delivering food?" Fabricio couldn't understand, "I deliver takeout, and I get about 10,000 dollar every month..."
"Ten thousand? Is that a lot? Not to mention that you had to support your so-called 'sister' to go to school, and now you have to borrow a whole 500,000 to save her. Do you know that the purse Jarell gave me is worth fifty thousand?”
"Boom" a loud noise.
Fabricio staggered a few steps and said in disbelief, "Jarell? Who is Jarell?"
"It has nothing to do with you. In short, remember, from now on, we have no relationship. Don't ever bother me again."
After that, her voice faded away. Vaguely, Fabricio heard some scornful muttering, "I must have been blind, wasted three years on an orphan..."
Then, a series of beeping sounds followed.
Fabricio stumbled, his expression filled with a sorrowful desolation.
Where is the promised eternal vow? What about growing old together as promised?
It turned out that everything is secondary to money... "Hehe...hehe...hehehe..."
Amidst the wretched laughter, a female doctor hurried over and asked, "Are you a family member of Waimarie York?"
Resisting the intense stabbing pain in his heart, Fabricio nodded blankly, "Yes, I am her brother."
"The chief surgeon asked me to inform you that the surgery has begun. You need to pay as soon as possible, although the hospital adheres to the principle of treating patients and saving lives, there's little we can do with many medications, once the medications are affected, given your sister's current condition, even if she is rescued, she might face a lifetime of disability.”
"Additionally, you should be mentally prepared, due to intracranial congestion and compression, your sister... is at risk of becoming vegetative."
With each word from the doctor, Fabricio 's face grew paler. When the word "vegetative" was uttered, his vision darkened, and he collapsed to the ground.
"Sir!"
The doctor was startled, hurriedly stepped forward and knelt down, supported him and said, "Are you okay?"
Fabricio looked anguished. He slowly shook his head and whispered, "Thank you, I'm fine."
The doctor examined him closely, ensuring he was truly okay before softly saying, "Sir, I understand your feelings, but you need to gather yourself, because no matter during or after the surgery, your sister will need you very much, if you fall apart, what will she do?"
Fabricio's body trembled when he heard this, he looked up at the female doctor and said, "You are right, I can't collapse now, doctor... thank you!"
"You're welcome." The female doctor shook her head and said, "Since you're fine, I'll leave first, as for you... please get the money as soon as possible."
Fabricio nodded, watching her depart, then succumbed to overwhelming despair, burying his head in his hands, and began to cry.
What could he do?
What options did he have?
He had borrowed all he could.
The eldest brother was rushing from Wellsville City, yet his arrival wouldn't change anything.
The second brother was trying with relatives, but hope was almost non-existent.
Moreover, they had already done so much for them over the past decade. That's why they hadn't gotten married yet.
"They've repaid what they owed; I mustn't burden them any further."
"I owe the Waimarie the most, so it's my responsibility to settle this debt!"
With closed eyes and a deep breath, Fabricio shakily picked up his phone, dialing a number. After a moment, the call connected, and he said, "Boss Zeigler. I've made up my mind, I'll borrow the money."
"Twenty percent interest, I'm not forcing you. When you're ready, come to Boan Building to meet me!"
"Beep, beep, beep..."
I don't care about the profit. As long as I save Waimarie, you can come to me in hell and ask for it.
Closing his phone, Fabricio didn't immediately get up, instead, he sat on the ground, lost in his thoughts.
Like his eldest and second brothers, he was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. York when he was just a few days old.
According to his eldest brother, if it weren't for their adoptive parents, he would have been abandoned near a dumpster and likely starved to death or become prey for stray dogs, therefore, he felt indebted to the York family, for his life!
Now, their only daughter lay in the intensive care unit, facing imminent danger. If she couldn't be saved or ended up as a vegetable or paralyzed for life due to lack of money, what face would he have to meet them in the future?
So no matter what, nothing could happen to her!
The 500,000 dollar medical expenses felt like an insurmountable mountain, suffocating Fabricio, coupled with his girlfriend's betrayal, his mood plummeted into utter darkness.
I'm just a mistake in this life, otherwise, why would my parents abandon me?
If that's the case, I might as well die, save Waimarie, and clear my debt to the York family. It can serve multiple purposes!
Turning his head for one last glance towards the intensive care unit, Fabricio pressed the elevator button and walked out of the hospital, feeling like a hollow shell.
"Waimarie, don't blame me, there's nothing I can do about it."
"You still have two brothers, I'm not worried about your future, I just hope that after I'm gone, you'll recover quickly."
"You'll live a great life. A vegetative state, a lifetime of disability? Impossible."
"You'll get married, have at least three children, and lead a life free from illness and trouble..."
Lost in his thoughts, Fabricio didn't realize he had reached the middle of the road until he heard a piercing horn.
Then, before he could react, his body flew out uncontrollably amidst countless screams.
He didn't know how far he flew, but eventually, he landed heavily.
Closing his eyes, he saw countless figures, among them, closest to him were a pair of enchanting eyes and a slightly plump yet immensely alluring fiery red lips. Then, everything faded to black.
Suddenly, his consciousness flowed into a pitch-black space.
With nothing visible except himself. In the next moment, the 108 beads on his wrist lit up with a radiant glow.
Accompanied by the shinning light, each bead releasing a figure that merged into his mind.
"I am Immortal Dawsey Adams, passing on to you the medical alchemy techniques..."
"I am Erudite Brooklyn Westley, imparting to you the quintessence from the Book of Changes..."
"I am Chief Daoist Priest Dylan Zimmer, teaching you the Taoist esoteric arts..."
"I am Maestro Timothy Beethoven, sharing with you the exceptional musical mastery..."
"I am The Great Artist Pablo White, transmitting to you the exquisite painting skills..."
"..."
There were a total of 108 sounds, each resonating like the bellows of a yellow bell, making Fabricio's scalp tingle, almost feeling like he was about to explode.
He couldn't discern if it was the effect of each sound or the result of receiving too many inheritances at once.
All he knew was that when the last sound fell, he let out an uncontrollable scream, and then his consciousness returned instantly.
As he sat up from the bed, everyone in the room was so shocked by this scene that no one dared to speak for a long time.
Fabricio gazed around in confusion and then asked bewilderedly, "What...what is this place?"
"Jefferton Province First Republic Hospital..."
