Ruxley paused in his tracks and turned to see a woman in white arguing with a man in his thirties not far away.
"Huh, why is she here?" A look of surprise flashed across Ruxley's eyes.
The woman in white was none other than Sherise's sister, Deja.
"Manager Habsburg, didn't we already agree on this project? How can you suddenly breach the contract?" Deja's face was filled with anger.
She had come to the Kyushu Chamber of Commerce today specifically to sign the contract for a project Sherise's Noctis Group had negotiated half a month ago. But to her shock, Orothor, the project manager in charge, had abruptly decided to back out, refusing to sign.
Orothor shook his head with a regretful expression. "Miss Potter, I'm sorry, but we've decided to give this project to Stellar Group. Their offer was far better than Noctis'."
He then glanced toward a woman in red standing beside him, his eyes gleaming with desire.
The woman, Melusine, was in her early thirties. She had striking features, perfectly applied makeup, and a low-cut miniskirt that exuded an irresistible allure. She was the sales director for Stellar Group in Shiphay City.
Stellar Group and Noctis Group had long been rivals. When Melusine heard that Deja had successfully negotiated this project, she seduced Orothor, convincing him to hand it over to Stellar Group instead.
Orothor, enchanted by Melusine's charms, couldn't refuse. Though Stellar's offer was lower, Melusine had more than compensated with her seductive promises, satisfying his every whim.
Melusine looked at Deja with a smug expression. "Deja, this project now belongs to Stellar. I suggest you return home instead of embarrassing yourself here."
Deja trembled with frustration. The project was crucial to Noctis Group, and they had spent weeks preparing for it. If the deal fell through, it would result in significant losses for the company. But Deja knew there was little she could do. The Kyushu Chamber of Commerce was one of the largest enterprises in Sheyton Province. If they were offended, Noctis Group would struggle to survive in the city.
Ruxley, seeing the distress on Deja's face, frowned and said to Lixen, "Find out what's going on."
Lixen, recognizing Deja, quickly nodded and signaled to his assistant, who hurried off to investigate Orothor's department. It didn't take long before the assistant returned, explaining the situation in detail.
"Breach of contract?" Ruxley glanced at Melusine standing beside Orothor, instantly grasping the situation. He turned to Lixen and said calmly, "From now on, all projects of the Kyushu Chamber of Commerce will be given to Noctis Group."
Lixen nodded solemnly. "Understood. I'll take care of it."
He then addressed a middle-aged man nearby, "President Habsburg, I believe you're in charge of the projects, correct? You know what to do."
Dracorix, the general manager of the Kyushu Chamber of Commerce's project department, trembled and nodded hastily. "Yes, yes, I'll handle this immediately!"
Dracorix wiped the sweat from his forehead as he hurried toward Orothor. Upon seeing him, Orothor looked surprised.
"Uncle Dracorix! Why are you here?" Orothor asked, confused.
Dracorix was Orothor's uncle. It was only because of this family connection that Orothor had managed to become a project manager at such a young age.
"Shut up! Don't call me uncle! I don't have a nephew like you!" Dracorix spat, delivering a hard slap across Orothor's face, much to everyone's shock.
"U-Uncle Dracorix, why… why did you hit me?" Orothor clutched his cheek in confusion. He had done nothing wrong, so why the sudden violence?
"Why? You blind fool!" Dracorix seethed, his face so dark with anger it could drip water.
Though Dracorix didn't know exactly who Deja was to Ruxley, it was clear from Ruxley's reaction that she was someone important. Orothor had unwittingly offended a powerful figure, and if this wasn't resolved properly, both he and Orothor would be in serious trouble.
Dracorix quickly turned to Deja with a warm smile. "Miss Potter, I deeply apologize for today's trouble. Rest assured, this project belongs to Noctis Group. I'll sign the contract with you immediately."
Deja stood stunned. Orothor had just told her the project was going to Stellar, yet now it was being handed back to Noctis? What was going on?
Orothor, equally baffled, protested, "Uncle Dracorix, I already promised this project to Stellar!"
Melusine quickly chimed in, "Yes, President Habsburg, we had an agreement with Manager Habsburg!"
Dracorix shot Melusine a cold look. "Orothor is no longer employed by the Kyushu Chamber of Commerce. He has been fired as of this moment."
Orothor went pale. Fired? He had worked so hard to climb the ranks, and now everything was slipping away.
"Uncle Dracorix, please, I—" Orothor began to plead, but Dracorix slapped him again.
"I told you to shut up! Didn't you hear me?"
Seeing the icy fury in Dracorix's eyes, Orothor fell silent, trembling with fear. He dared not say another word.
