Lilian stood up and wanted to explain, but suddenly she saw Carl there.
Her face was full of surprise as if she had seen a ghost.
Carl respectfully called Lilian. "Mom."
Lilian's face suddenly turned sullen. "Carl Chen? You even don't feel ashamed to come back. You're not welcome."
Carrie was angry. "Mom! Carl is my husband! And here is his home!"
Five years ago, when her daughter would marry Chen's son, Lilian was the most excited person. After all, Chen's family used to be the top wealthy family in JL City.
Lilian had waited for the wealth from Chen's family, so she treated Carl so politely.
But Chen's family was ruined in just one night. Then she hurriedly asked her daughter to get rid of Chen's family.
Then, Lilian had been trying her best to find a better husband for her daughter.
And Hank Jiang, the young master in Jiang's family, was just one of the numerous Carrie's pursuers in JL City.
Lilian didn't want to change her attitude. "This home has nothing to do with him. Let him get out of here."
But, Carrie wasn't moved a little.
She kept living her widow's life and didn't care about any talented men, so Lilian had to make Carrie accept Carl's death, But out of her expectation, Carl came back just as she was discussing the plan with Hank!
Lilian felt ashamed, so she put all her anger on Carl. She barked loudly. "Carl! It's good for your return. Just sign the divorce agreement now, and never come to bother us!"
Carl frowned. His mother-in-law was so unreasonable. How could she drive him out of his house?
Besides, judging from the word she spoke on the phone before, Carl knew she was planning to cheat Carrie by forging his death proof!
But before Carl spoke, Carrie said first. "Mom. Don't trick me anymore. I won't divorce Carl! And I have to warn you it's illegal to forge the death-proof!"
"You..." Lilian was discomfited. "Why don't you divorce this guy? He is talented in nothing! Do you want to waste all your life on him?"
Just at this moment, a middle-aged man's voice came to them. "What are you arguing about?"
The middle-aged man appeared at the staircase and gradually went downstairs.
It was Carl's father-in-law, Reed Su.
Lilian glanced at Reed with impatience. "Your useless son-in-law, Carl Chen, returned."
Reed was surprised, too. He stared at Carl's. "Since you have disappeared for so long, why do you come back?"
Carl said indifferently. "Dad. It has been a long time since we met last time."
Reed snorted, and then sat down on the sofa. "Do you have anything important now? You can go if you don't."
Carl smiled. "Mom, Dad. I want to compensate Carrie and live a good life with her."
"Compensate?" Reed shook his head. "What can you compensate Carrie for? Have you become rich there years?"
Carl was silent for a while and then answered. "No. I've been in the army all these years."
"Army?" Reed asked. "Do you think you deserve Carrie now? Don't overrate yourself!"
Lilian glanced at Carl with disdain. "You must have suffered poverty outside, so now you come back to ask us to support you? No way!"
Carrie gritted her teeth, and her eyes were full of firmness. "He is my husband even though he is useless! I'm willing to support him!"
Lilian pounded the table and growled. "Wicked girl! You're not the leader of our family!"
Then Lilian strode to the door and opened the door. She pointed out and shouted. "Carl Chen! Get out of here!"
All of a sudden, Carrie pulled Carl’s arm, and rushed toward her room.
They got into Carrie’s room. Carrie said sorry to Carl. “Sorry, my mom is just that kind of person. Please don’t mind this.”
Carl nodded. “I know. It’s me who did wrong first, so it’s reasonable for mom to hate me.”
Then, Carl and Carrie looked at each other with the blush on their faces.
They hadn't had sex all the time before they separated for so long, so definitely, they felt embarrassed in one room at night.
Carrie tried to break the ice, so she began to speak. "Carl. You can live with me, but you should be careful about your behaviors. After all, there is no emotional foundation of our marriage. I hope you can understand me."
Carl nodded. "Carrie. Don't worry about that. Since you could wait for me for so long, I can also wait for you for longer."
Just as Carl was confessing, his phone rang. He answered the phone, and a woman’s voice came out from the phone, which made Carrie stare at Carl with doubt...
