Wilson had called Sofia earlier that he would be home for dinner tonight. And Sofia was waiting to go home with him from work, thinking about what they would have for dinner. She was wondering if Wilson's other dishes would be as good as the tomato and egg noodles.
As she was getting ready to leave work, Lydia suddenly came over and told her that Wendy had called her to the office.
She had to stop what she was doing, knock on the door, and walk into her office. Wendy was sitting in her office drinking water and smiled when she saw Sofia coming in. She was going to make Sofia understand that if she dared to confront her, it would never end well.
"Director Pai, what can I do for you?" Sofia spoke politely. Wendy felt better at her respectful look. Arrogant as Sofia was, she had to address her as Director and obey her order.
"En...I accidentally left an important folder in the scrap of paper you just took to shred. I'm in a hurry to use this file tomorrow morning, and now I'll have to trouble you to recover that original copy. There's a lot of important raw data in the file that needs to leave on file."
Sofia looked at Wendy, this was a deliberate attempt to make things difficult for her. How could such an important original manuscript get caught in the shredded paper? It was her own work mistake, so why did she have to do this.
Usually, the raw data archived electronically, and now she was told that there was no archive. Wasn't this playing a trick on her?
"Director Pai!"
"As you admit me as your director, the first thing you need to do as a qualified employee is to obey your superiors unconditionally. Now you're just an intern, and I'm teaching you how to be a qualified employee. You go to the shredder and find the advertising plan for the City West Casino. I want it tomorrow morning."
Wendy laughed and got up to grab her LV bag, humming away from Sofia.
"Cousin, sorry to cause so much trouble. After all, I'm a woman with a baby and I can't work too many hours or it won't be good for my child." Wendy smiled, patting Sofia on the shoulder as the phone in her purse rang.
She picked it up right in front of Sofia, "Well, I'm off from work, I'll be right down. I know, I'll be careful. Don't worry, see you soon, I won't let you wait for me with the cold air down there. See you later." This seemed to say on purpose to Sofia.
Hanging up the phone, Wendy winked at Sofia, "I'm leaving, I hope it won't rain heavily tonight. You don't seem to have an umbrella with you. What a pity!"
Sofia wanted to throw all the paper from the shredder at Wendy, but she had to obey her orders.
Sofia pinched her face and said to herself, "Forget it, let's just play jigsaw puzzles!" She didn't want to play the game though, who had neither the status nor the speaking right now.
As the people in the office were leaving, Sofia got all the paper out of the shredder and began to sort through them.
The phone rang and Sofia remembered that she had forgotten to call Wilson back. It was only when she opened the phone that she saw a message from Wilson.
"I have an important meeting at the last minute. Don't wait for me, eat by yourself."
The message was concise and didn't even have any tender words, but Sofia's heart still warmed. There was a feeling of being cared for all the time.
She smiled and replied, "I know, I'm working late too, remember to eat." She only remembered to instruct Wilson to eat, but she had forgotten.
The time always went by so fast when she was head down and busy. Sofia's neck was stiff when she looked up, and she sighed as she looked at the finished original on her desk.
She glanced at the clock and it was eleven-thirty.
"Oh no!" Sofia quickly gathered her things and turned to leave. Wilson called as he arrived home and knew she hadn't come back, so he made the next call.
"Where are you?"
"I just got out of the office. I'll take a cab back, soon."
"I'm coming over now." Not waiting for Sofia to refuse, Wilson had already hung up the phone and driven over.
Sofia stood in front of the office, watching the rain drifting in the night sky. A cold wind blew through and she shivered, all awake.
This year's winter seemed to be particularly cold, especially on this rainy night, so Sofia had to walk back and forth to warm herself up.
As the rain was getting heavier and heavier, Sofia was a little worried and sent another message, urging him to drive more carefully.
Within two to three minutes of sending her message, a white Land Rover pulled up in front of her. She recognized it as Wilson's car and felt warm inside.
How did he get here so fast, was he driving fast?
The black coat made Wilson look stable and secure. Sofia always forgot to bring her umbrella. And every time she wished there was someone who could come to pick her up when she didn't have one.
Wilson's legs were long, and in a few steps, he was in front of Sofia and taking her into his arms. He moved very naturally, as they often did.
"It's cold and raining so hard. Are you driving fast? You have to drive slower when it rains, what if something happens." Sofia's petite figure cradled in Wilson's arms, sending warmth through her. And it was Sofia's heart that was the warmest.
"Are you cold?" The deep voice rang in her ears. Sofia nodded, rubbing her hands and jumping.
"Let's get back!" Sofia was to go, but her hands were in Wilson's coat pockets.
"That'll keep you from getting cold." Wilson kept a poker face and cradled her in his arms. Sofia had a pair of small hands in his pockets, her little face flushed and smiling.
"Mmm!" It was raining hard, and this night was cold. But right now, Sofia neven feel the slightest bit cold.
Perhaps it was the presence of him by her side that made it so different.
"During such a cold day, you didn't bring with you an umbrella, neither the scarf?" As soon as they got in the car, Wilson can't help commenting on her dress after a glance. How did she pass winters in those years? In his mind, all those girls like her all prepared their winter-things well before winter, like gloves, hats, scarves, umbrella......
Now, how about her? only with a sweater and coat, so lightly dressed, how could she not feel cold?
"Go get some clothes with me tomorrow." Wilson did think she would feel cold with so little clothes on. Men are different, they are strong and not afraid of cold, but she, a girl, is different.
"It's okay, I already get used to it," she said. However, as she spoke, her voice was getting smaller, till it could only be heard by herself. All these were because she had seen Wilson's warning, she became diffident.
Actually, she thought she still had many clothes, enough for her at least, if she kept buying new clothes, the former one would be left aside, useless.
"Wilson, do you have time this weekend?” The car was stopped before the crossroad when it came to Sofia that soon it will be weekend, maybe she should take Wilson to visit her father and mother.
"I should be available this weekend."
"Then, could you leave me some time and accompany me to see my dad and mom. After all, we've married, I just wanna them to know that their daughters now live well and they don't need to worry about me anymore." When speaking of her parents, Sofia felt a heartache, every time when the new years came, it would be the most heartbreaking time for her.
All the other could have the opportunity to spend the happy days with their parent, yet she couldn't. she was always alone, even though she used to be with her uncle's family, she seemed to not be able to a family member with them. Sometimes her uncle would help her, however, in home everything was decided by her aunt, and there was a cousin like Wendy, God knows how she had passed those years.
"Yeah." Seeing the eagerness in her eyes, Wilson agreed without a second thought.
"Really? Wow, thank you, Wilson, thank you so much. You are so nice and sweet and considerate!" Sofia was so happy that she hugged Wilson with hesitation.
"Dear, calm down, I'm driving." It was then Sofia realized what she had done. She rushed back to her seat, blushed. So weird, it seemed that she always could control her feeling before Wilson.
The atmosphere soon became awkward between the two, Sofia turned her face quickly away, wondering how shameful it is for her to behave like that just now.
"Did you treat your ex-boyfriend the same way?" Don't know why, Wilson wanted to know whether she would do the same to that man, rushing to hug him in her excitement.
Sofia shook her head soon and explained," No, don't know why, I just don't want to be too intimate with him. For all those years, we only kissed once, or maybe that time couldn't be count in. For no reason, I pushed him away. Haha, now every time when I think of this, I would feel irony, as if everything were settled in the beginning."
Wilson didn't say anything, yet he was happy inwardly. No wonder that she didn't know how to change the breath and react every time he kissed her. It was not that she didn't react but didn't know how to react.
The car was running through the city, and it was quiet now, then, suddenly, a grunting sound came from Sofia. Wilson turned to look at her stomach, saying nothing but smiled. So embarrassed was Sofia, and then she remembered that she hadn't had dinner yet.
"Didn't eat this evening?" He asked with a bit of angry, Sofia smiled diffidently.
"What do you want for dinner?" Wilson sighed helplessly. How could she survive?
"Tomato-egg noddles, the one you did last time."
"Don't get bored of it?"
"No, I like it, but it's so surprising that you should cook yourself."
"Em. I live on my own when I was abroad, everything. If you want, I'll do it for you." Sofia nodded quickly, now when she looked at Wilson, she was like looking at delicious food.
Her behavior amused Wilson. With his mouth hooked up, he sped up. It was over 12 when they got back home.
No wonder people around her said that it was most attractive when men were in the kitchen. Drooling at him, handsome and talented, Sofia couldn't help wondering whether she was dreaming, or she couldn't rush into such a gorgeous person!
Should she thank Fitzgerald? If it had not been him, she wouldn't have met Wilson, not to mention marry him and be his wife.
"Enough?" Wilson stood before her without her notice, and then she came to herself and found it must be really embarrassing.
"You're drooling."
"Oh, sorry." Sofia hurried to wipe when she found him cheating on her. Wilson smiled looking at her clumsiness.
This was the first time when Sofia saw Wilson smile, it was like a sunbeam shining through the dark sky in cold winter, warm and obsessive.
"Will, you smile so sweet and attractive, why do you smile so little?"
Wilson realized that he Smiled just now. He didn't give a word but went to the dinner table with the bowl, Sofia followed him, waiting to see him smile again, yet failed.
She murmured, cool and cold guy!
"Go ahead, finish your dinner and get washed and go to sleep." Sofia began like a wolf, then she suddenly looked up and stared at Wilson who was also eating, wondering how could he eat so elegantly. Then she decided that she'd better not eat with him later, considering so obvious the contrast.
She could not help thinking herself a bandit who kidnapped a fragile gentleman.
"What?"
"No, nothing, Uhuh." Sofia giggled and thought whether she would be dead once Wilson knew that he was thought to be that kind of person. She'd better keep it herself.
"Are there so many things as an intern? Why did you work so late?" Wilson gave a word. He knew that Sofia work with her cousin in the same company and her cousin was her superior. He worried that this silly girl kept everything to her and get bullied.
"Oh, leave it alone, It's Wendy again, I don't knwo what happened to her that she should mixed one important file into the waste, and now all of them were thrown away into the shredder. Now I need to get those waste paper back and piece them together for the original file. That's why I played the jigsaw puzzle this whole night. Oh, I think I sit as long as there should be mushroom on me."
Wilson frowned, she was bullied as expected.
