"Lingling, thank you for your kindness, but there's no need for you to worry about this." Jane said indifferently.
But Lingling didn’t stop, she continued.
"Lingling, aren't you in need of money? And don't say that I'm not enough of being your friend, I'm now a manager at the Love Affair Bar, if you want, come to our bar and be a waitress, it's not a problem for you to earn 50 to 60 thousand Yuan a month with me promoting you."
Jane had already opened the door at this moment.
"No, thank you."
"Josh, let's go inside."
After Jane said that, she walked into the house with Josh.
After entering the house.
"Jane, they are at least your neighbors, yet they are so abominable."
Josh felt so angry when he thought of the mother and daughter just now.
If it wasn't for Jane stopped him, Josh would absolutely have taught them a lesson.
"Actually, Lingling and I grew up together, we were good friends and classmates at that time." Jane said.
"Oh? Then you ...... "Josh seemed curious, apparently Lingling targeted at Jane, she didn’t act like a good friend at all.
Jane lowered her head, reminisced the old times.
"In high school, Lingling had a boyfriend, but one day her boyfriend confessed to me secretly, after I refused him, he told Lingling that I had seduced him, Lingling came to call me a bitch and a slut, and she didn't listen to my explanation, and from that day on, she cut off with me."
Josh finally understood Jane when he heard that.
Jane continued, "Ever since she cut ties with me, she and her mother often humiliated me and spread humors about me, especially after Lingling became a manager in a bar, her mother became even more sarcastic, saying that I'm far inferior to her daughter."
After Jane said this, she was so aggrieved that her eyes turned red and she’s on the verge of tears.
"Damn!" Josh squinted his eyes, anger ignited in his heart.
Jane was just a poor woman, yet she has to suffer these groundless humiliations, Josh felt furious for what happened to Jane.
Josh has made up his mind to help Jane.
"Alright, let's not talk about this, today I invited you to dinner, let's not talk about something unhappy, please sit down."
Jane wiped tears from the corners of her eyes, and then squeezed out a smile.
At Jane's invitation, Josh sat down on an old sofa.
Josh looked around, Jane's house was small and old, but very neatly.
"By the way, Jane, where are your parents?" Josh was curious.
Josh didn't see Jane's parents at all.
"I ...... my father died years ago, my mother, she ...... is also in bed due to illness now." Jane said with her head down.
Josh was startled, Jane was also a single-parent family? Was it because her father has passed away long time ago? Josh has a family like her as well.
"Josh, I'll take you to meet my mother."
Jane took Josh to a bedroom.
On the bed in the bedroom lay a thin middle-aged woman with waxy face who looked to be in poor spirits.
Needless to say, this middle-aged woman must be Jane's mother.
To be honest, Josh felt a twinge in his heart after seeing her.
"Mom, this is my classmate Josh." Jane forced a smile, she might not want to bring a bad mood to her mother.
"Hello, I ...... am not in a good condition, so I won't be able to get up to welcome you." Jane's mother has a feeble voice.
"Auntie, please, no need to do that." Josh also forced a smile.
"Jane, did you have a good day at school?" Jane’s mother concerned about her.
"Don't worry mom, I’m doing great." Jane said with a smile, she didn't dare to tell her mother any of the grievances she had suffered because it would only make her mother worry in vain.
"That's good, Jane, go and cook dinner for our guest." A smile appeared in the pale face of Jane’s mother.
After walking out of the bedroom.
"Jane, is auntie seriously ill? Why don't you go to the hospital?" Josh asked.
Jane lowered her head and spoke in a deep voice.
"I can't, the medical expenses are unaffordable, I can't get enough money, even if my mother stay at home, it's hard to afford medicine bills every month as well."
After Josh heard that, he felt more and more sympathy for her.
Jane had no father, and her mother was bedridden, the burden of life was all on her shoulder, she had to bear so much even she’s just a poor and weak woman!
"You were singing in a bar before, because you needed to earn money for your mother, right? And that's why you care so much about the scholarship." Josh asked.
Josh could now finally understand Jane’s behavior.
"Yeah." Jane nodded lightly.
"Jane, you have suffered too much over the years." Josh couldn't help but say.
Josh could completely understand Jane and even feel exactly the same for her, because Josh was also from a single-parent family and also had a father who died early, they had similar life experiences.
The difference was that he’s luckier than Jane because his mother was not bedridden, she could still work, and Josh didn’t need to shoulder much burden.
The luckiest thing was that he’s Moses Liu's grandson.
"It doesn’t matter, I just… go through it anyway." Jane smiled bitterly.
Jane continued after she pondered for a while, "If it wasn't for my mother's demand that I must finish college, I would have dropped out of school and gone to work long ago."
Josh felt heartbreaking when he thought of what Jane has been through these years.
Josh really couldn't imagine how could a girl tolerate so much pain. How did she pull through all these years?
Josh couldn’t imagine how strong Jane has to be to resist all these.
It was because Jane had endured the heavy pressure of life so that she was so special and sensible compared to other girls.
"Jane, believe me, everything will be alright soon." Josh looked serious.
Although Jane was unfortunate, she had encountered Josh. And that would be a blessing in her painful life!
"Get better? Hopefully." Jane looked up at the ceiling.
Jane knew that it would be hard to make her life get better.
Because it would take too much money to cure her mother, and unless she chose to do illegal business, she wouldn't be able to earn enough money even after she went work after graduation.
Jane has long been afraid to harbor any illusion.
"Alright, let's not talk about that, I'll go cook." Jane smiled because she didn’t want to make things too awkward.
Immediately afterwards, Jane went to cook.
Josh, on the other hand, sat in the small living room and pondered.
Josh could just reveal his real identity and then give Jane a large sum of money to help Jane solve her financial problems.
However, the last time Josh gave money to Jane, she returned the money to Josh completely, so Josh was worried that if he gave her money again, she would refuse.
"There has to be a feasible way."
Josh muttered, while already having an idea in his mind.
It wasn't long before Jane had prepared the meal.
Three dishes and one soup, all ordinary home-cooked food, but it was good enough for Jane, if it wasn't for Josh, she wouldn't cook so many dishes as that would be too wasteful.
After cooking the meal, Jane used a bowl to serve a meal for her mother first.
At the table.
"Josh, taste it." Jane smiled wittily.
"Okay!"
Josh couldn’t wait to pick up the chopsticks.
"Yummy!"
After taking a bite, Josh had an exaggerated look on his face.
Seeing Josh with such an exaggerated expression, Jane couldn't help but cover her mouth and sneaked.
"Josh, tone it down okay, my cooking skill is not that good."
"It's really delicious, I'm exclaiming from the bottom of my heart, you're really good at cooking!" Josh laughed.
Josh was indeed telling the truth, Josh found that Jane made these simplest home-cooked dishes very delicious.
"You're so virtuous, whoever can marry you is really lucky in the future." Josh said with a smile.
"Don't make fun of me, with my family's condition and a bedridden mother, only a fool would marry me." Jane pouted.
"That's not impossible, what if there really is a fool." Josh laughed.
"Alright, alright, if you really think my cooking skill is good, you can come here often." Jane smiled.
"Jane, we're just classmates, it would be improper for me to come and scrounge for food at your home, and if I come here often, aren't you afraid that people will misunderstand that we're a couple?" Josh smiled.
When Jane heard Josh say that, a blush appeared on her pretty face.
