Mila Hai went to her sister's house. Opening the door and stepping inside, she found Anna Hai already up and busy in the kitchen.
"Hey, Anna!"
"Mila, you're here."
Anna Hai emerged from the kitchen, delighted to see her sister. "Have you eaten yet? I'm making some noodles. Would you like a bowl too?"
"No, I've eaten. Sister, have you cooked the noodles? Stop cooking if you don't have anything to say. I've packed breakfast for you and Ethan."
"Not yet. Ethan had a fever yesterday. I didn't get much sleep all night! I woke up late this morning. Your brother-in-law went out to eat breakfast. He scolded me and said what was wrong with me, being at home all day and not even making breakfast for him."
Anna Hai felt a little aggrieved.
Mila Hai was infuriated when she heard this. "Why did Ethan have a fever? Even if the fever has subsided, sister, you should take him to the doctor later to prevent a recurrence. My brother-in-law is also like this. If the child is sick, he won't help. I really want to scold him."
"Sister, I've moved out. Does my brother-in-law still insist on having an AA relationship with you?"
Anna Hai sat on the sofa, opened the rice noodles packed by her sister, and spoke while eating, "I'll take Ethan for a checkup later. He still insists on an AA arrangement with me, saying that I only know how to spend money but not how to earn it. I don't know how much pressure he is under. Since we are a family, I must bear the family expenses."
"His sister must have taught him this. My eldest sister got married and always took care of her family's affairs. Your brother-in-law was very kind to me in the past, but his eldest sister taught him bad things."
Before Anna Hai resigned, she had already secured the position of financial director in the company, and her income was quite considerable. She sacrificed so much for love and marriage, but in return, she was insulted by her husband's family.
She only spent money on this small family when she did spend, particularly on clothes and cosmetics for herself. She hadn't bought new clothes or cosmetics for a long time, let alone indulged in them. However, whenever she did buy something, her mother-in-law and eldest aunt would scold her for spending money frivolously. Even if she explained that it was money her sister gave her money, her mother-in-law and most aged aunts would argue that since it was given to her, she shouldn't spend the family's common funds indiscriminately.
"Sister, why don't you send Ethan to kindergarten and return to work? You could earn just as much as your brother-in-law."
Mila Hai felt deeply sorry for her sister.
In the past, when she lived here, she handled almost all the household chores at her sister's house, all to spare her sister from being so tired. Now that she had moved out, her sister had more responsibilities.
"Your brother-in-law said he would wait until Ethan is three or four years old before sending him to kindergarten." Anna Hai also wanted to work. Leaving aside everything else, the current mortgage, car loan, and elderly care expenses had placed a heavy burden on the family. It was overwhelming.
Mila Hai frowned, sensing that her brother-in-law's attitude towards her sister was deteriorating. She couldn't help but ask, "Sister, do you think my brother-in-law might have someone else?"
Anna Hai was taken aback and replied, "Probably not. I know his income quite well. He doesn't have any extra money to support a lover."
"But my brother-in-law's attitude towards my sister is worsening. Sister, you have to plan for your future. You can't continue being a stay-at-home mom with no income and no consideration at home."
"It'll take some time. He works in a large corporation and is very busy."
Anna Hai cautiously asked her sister about her life in her new home, and after confirming that her sister was leading a good life, she felt relieved.
After seeing her nephew, Mila Hai had to return to the store at her sister's urging.
She rode her scooter to the bookstore, still thinking about her sister's challenging life. Lost in thought, she ignored the traffic and was nearly hit by a car. Startled, she swerved to the side, narrowly avoiding the car, and parked her scooter.
The car braked abruptly and came to a stop.
Mila Hai glanced at the car. It was a Rolls-Royce. What a luxurious vehicle!
The Rolls-Royce was followed by several cars of the same color. The occupants were likely the bodyguards of the car's owner.
Seeing luxury cars in a bustling city like Guan City was not unusual.
Mila Hai apologized to the driver, quickly started the battery-powered scooter again, and drove away.
Afraid of being scolded, the driver turned to the man in black in the back seat of the car and said, "Sir, that was Mrs. Zhan just now."
William Zhan's face darkened. He observed that Mila Hai had almost collided with their car. She seemed distracted. Riding her bike on the road with passing cars, she was lost in thought. Did she want to meet with an accident?
