William Zhan observed as she selected and haggled with the flower shop owner. She managed to get a pot of flowers worth fifty dollars for half the price, skillfully bargaining until the shop owner reluctantly agreed. William Zhan found it quite amusing.
He had never paid much attention to prices or bargaining when making purchases.
Unexpectedly, his wife was an adept bargainer. William Zhan felt a flicker of amusement seeing the flower shop owner wince like a sizable chunk of flesh had been carved off.
After the transaction, Mila Hai moved the potted flowers she had bought, pot by pot, to William Zhan's car.
William Zhan initially stood aside and watched, but he later felt it might be overwhelming for her to carry all those flowers. He joined her in moving the flowers. Once they were done, his car was packed to the brim.
Thankfully, the flower shop owner gave them some paper to spread on the seats to prevent stains.
"Is there anything else you need to buy?" William Zhan asked as they got into the car.
"The car is already packed, there's no space for anything else. Let's hold off on buying more for now. Setting up a home takes time. I'll buy and decorate slowly whenever I have the chance," she explained.
Mila Hai fastened her seat belt, checked the time on her phone, and mentioned, "Let's head back. I need to visit my sister's house later."
William Zhan drove in silence.
"Mr. Zhan."
"Yes?"
"Grandma and your parents are visiting this weekend. Can I invite my sister and her husband to join us for a meal? My parents are practically my sister and brother-in-law. We have our marriage certificate, and it doesn't matter if we have romantic feelings or not. Since we're meeting our parents, both sets should meet."
So they won't be strangers if they bump into each other on the street.
Mila Hai still had grandparents and uncles in the countryside, but they treated her and her sister as burdens. After their parents died in a car accident, they were unwilling to take them in. Instead, they took some of their parents' compensation for their lives.
Her grandparents also occupied the house left by her parents. She rarely visited and didn't consider them as her family.
She resented her relatives for not taking in her and her sister after their parent's death. When her sister married, they audaciously asked for a dowry of 300,000 dollars, but her sister fiercely resisted. Her brother-in-law paid them the dowry to marry her sister.
Ultimately, they gave up on the 300,000 dollars and left cursing, even skipping their sister's wedding.
In Mila Hai's eyes, her sister was her true family.
William Zhan didn't object and calmly responded, "That sounds reasonable. Let your sister know, and they can come over on Saturday to meet my parents."
"Alright."
Soon, they arrived back at Minyuan Garden.
The car was parked downstairs, and Mila Hai started moving the flowers upstairs one by one, displaying impressive strength. William Zhan called the community security guards, paid them generously, and asked for assistance moving the potted flowers to the apartment. If a problem could be solved with money, he would spend it and spare them the trouble.
Soon, a corner of the balcony was filled with potted flowers.
William Zhan escorted the security guards out. Mila Hai stood on the balcony and observed. The balcony was quite spacious. Even with a cartload of potted flowers, it occupied just a small portion. The flower stand remained to be assembled, a task for another time. She planned to tackle it later in the evening.
"What's on your mind?"
"The balcony is quite vast, and these flowers won't achieve the effect I'm envisioning."
William Zhan took a look and acknowledged her concern. "What kind of effect are you aiming for? Like a small garden?"
Mila Hai nodded.
"Are you going to your sister's house? You go ahead, and I'll visit the flower shop to buy more potted flowers."
Mila Hai glanced at the time and inquired, "What are your working hours?"
"I can start a bit later."
