"It was a minor issue, and I couldn't be bothered to report it to the insurance," Steven Lu confessed, while William Zhan questioned the sudden query.
After a brief silence, William Zhan revealed, "The woman who scratched your car this morning is the sister of my grandmother's savior. These two sisters relied on each other, and now, she's a housewife without a source of income. She's the one who scratched the back of your car. I'm worried that compensating you might lead to her financial ruin."
Steven Lu responded, "What a coincidence, she happens to be the sister of your grandma's savior. How did you find out?"
William Zhan fabricated a story, "My grandmother holds her savior in high regard and often engages in conversations with her. Upon noticing her savior's low spirits, my grandmother inquired about the reason, and the woman named Hai shared it."
"My last name is Hai too. The woman who damaged my car is named Anna Hai. What is your grandma's savior's name?"
"Mila Hai."
"As soon as I heard their names, I realized they were siblings. Since they are related to your grandma's lifesaver, I'll let it slide. I don't mind the small sum of money. Even though I'm the victim, if I act generously like you and don't ask her to pay anything, she won't learn her lesson. She might end up scratching someone else's car next time."
Steven Lu, the fourth son of the Lu Family, aged thirty-five, had not taken over the family business but had established the Lu Group with his efforts, making him a billionaire.
He was known for his generosity and loyalty. In his younger days, he was involved in martial arts, and the scar on his face was a souvenir from that time. He chose not to undergo plastic surgery, believing the intimidating spot added to his charm and majesty.
"Since I mentioned teaching her a lesson, I'll ask her to pay half of the amount. Although it's not a large sum for people like us," William Zhan explained, "I thought that if I spent a significant amount, you might use your influence with my grandma's savior to secure a discount, allowing her to pay less."
Ten thousand dollars was insignificant for wealthy individuals like William Zhan and Steven Lu. Even if Anna Hai, who had no source of income, needed to borrow it, she could still afford to repay that amount.
"It's not a substantial sum, just a few tens of thousands of dollars. Let me request half of it as compensation. Even for a housewife with no income, asking her to pay a few thousand dollars is a significant sacrifice. It will serve as a valuable lesson, and she'll be more cautious on the road in the future, avoiding collisions with other vehicles."
Fortunately, his car had been parked on the roadside. If it had been hit while he was driving, his precious child might not have survived.
"Steven, thank you."
"Why thank me for such a small matter?" Steven Lu replied. "By the way, your grandma has a soft spot for that girl named Hai. Even though she saved your grandma, I could offer her a substantial reward, sparing us frequent visits. However, Grandma Zhan often socializes, and she requested you to intercede on her behalf."
William Zhan calmly stated, "My grandma is indirectly accusing us grandsons of being unfilial. None of us have the time to spend with her."
The old lady's greatest wish was for her grandsons to marry and have children soon, providing her with great-grandchildren to play with. As long as they did so, she would reward them with fifty million for a son and daughter, totaling five hundred million.
After all, the Zhan family had a tradition of having more male descendants than females. Grandma had hoped for a granddaughter, but all three daughters-in-law had given birth to grandsons. Her hopes now rested on her grandsons to provide her with a great-granddaughter.
Steven Lu paused before adding, "Elders tend to be like that. When my grandma was around, she used to nag us to get married every day. At the time, we were so irritated that we avoided going home. But now that she's gone, we genuinely miss her constant insistence on marriage."
People often realize the value of something only after losing it. Among the four prominent figures in their family, Steven Lu was the only one who hadn't married yet, and his whole family, including his nephew, constantly questioned when he would bring his fourth aunt home.
"It's normal to be pressured to marry. You're thirty-five years old, nearly forty when rounded up. If you don't marry soon, you'll be an old parent when your child is born. People might mistake you for a grandparent when they see you with your child."
William Zhan's words carried a hint of teasing. If it weren't for his grandma's persistent nagging, he wouldn't have rushed into marriage. He had planned to consider marriage at the age of thirty-five. Even now, he hadn't decided to spend his entire life with Mila Hai. As he had told his grandma, he needed to assess Mila Hai's character and determine if the wife his grandma had chosen for him was worth a lifetime of commitment.
Steven Lu laughed and quipped, "In that case, I'll raise my child as a grandchild."
William Zhan was left speechless.
