Nora obediently extended her injured hand for him to see.
Andrew Li, upon noticing the scars on her hand, furrowed his brow slightly. 'How did this happen? Did a little friend bully you?'
Nora hesitated for a moment, then vigorously shook her head.
Not bullied?
Andrew Li was puzzled. 'Then what happened?'
Nora picked up her pencil again and painstakingly wrote a few letters in her notebook.
'shuai.'
After finishing, she tilted her head with a hint of uncertainty.
This word was a bit tricky to write. Whenever she encountered words she couldn't write, she would usually add the phonetics or simply skip them. But she wasn't very familiar with the phonetics of this word either, unsure if she had written it correctly.
'Fell down?'
Andrew Li looked at the phonetics she had written and sought confirmation from her.
Nora nodded.
Andrew Li sighed in relief and lightly touched the injured area. 'Did the teacher apply medicine for you?'
Nora nodded again.
Andrew Li nodded in return and glanced at her delicate little hand. 'This injury won't heal in just a few days. You'll need to continue with the medication.
Daddy will help you with it, okay?'
Nora didn't refuse.
Andrew Li immediately squatted down, lifted the little girl, and headed downstairs.
In the living room, he placed her on his lap and instructed Nanny Zhang, 'Bring the first aid kit.'
Nanny Zhang complied and quickly brought over the kit.
From inside, Andrew Li took out a spray and applied it to her injury. He then gently massaged the area for a while.
The injury was a bit more severe than he expected. Even though some time had passed, it still hurts when touched.
Nora didn't make a fuss; she simply pursed her lips, her delicate eyebrows furrowing.
Andrew Li occasionally observed her expression to see if she was in pain.
Seeing her furrow her brows, he couldn't help but feel a sense of familiarity. This little girl's serious demeanor bore a resemblance to that woman.
Sensing her father's gaze, Nora looked up in confusion and pointed at his injured lips, her meaning clear: She was asking how he got hurt.
Andrew Li understood her and reassuringly held her small hand. 'It's nothing. I was bitten by a stray cat.'"
"Stray cat?"
Nora was even more puzzled. She grabbed the pen and paper that were on the coffee table and wrote, 'Cat, where did it come from?'
Andrew Li's eyes darkened slightly. 'It came from abroad.'
After saying that, he didn't want to bring up that woman again, fearing that his inner anger would surface in front of his daughter.
Seeing that Nora was still perplexed, he reached out and took the pen and paper from her hand. 'That's enough for now. It's getting late. Daddy will take you to bed.'
Although Nora was still curious, when her dad said so, she stopped asking questions and let him carry her upstairs.
...
When Ja Jiang returned home, the two little ones were still awake, and Ava Xi was keeping them company in the living room while they watched TV.
Upon seeing her enter, the two little ones immediately shifted their attention from the TV and ran over, saying, 'Mommy!'
Ja Jiang smiled and patted their heads.
'Have you been drinking?'
Hale noticed the scent of alcohol on her and wrinkled his nose. 'I'll make you some hangover tea. Your head won't hurt in the morning.'
With that, he turned and headed to the kitchen.
Harlan led her to the couch and perched on her lap, earnestly massaging her temples. 'I'll give Mommy a massage so she won't feel uncomfortable.'
Ava Xi watched these two little ones, who were so sensible at such a young age, with eyes full of envy. 'How come my godson is so thoughtful?'
Ja Jiang laughed and looked at her. 'Do you like it? You can go have your own kids.'
Upon hearing that, Ava Xi shook her head repeatedly. 'No way, I'd rather steal your two.'
While Harlan was massaging her mother's temples, he also comforted his godmother, 'Godmom, you don't need to steal. If you ever get drunk, my brother and I will take care of you like this.'
Ava Xi couldn't resist the urge to hug the little one and give him a kiss, but since both little ones were busy, she restrained herself and said, 'You two are so wonderful. I love you both so much!'
Ja Jiang shivered at her cheesy words and took the hangover tea that Hale brought. She sipped it slowly.
After finishing the tea, it was already quite late.
'Alright, I'm fine now. You two should go upstairs and rest!'
Ja Jiang kissed the foreheads of the two little ones.
The two little ones nodded, bid Ava Xi goodnight, and obediently went upstairs to bed."
