Upon hearing this, Andrew Li set aside his work and thought about the figure of Ja Jiang leaving with a stranger last night. His gaze darkened slightly as he inquired, "Who is this man?"
"The man is named Clark Gu, and he is the head of the Vir Research Institute. Previously, Old Master Qin had him come over for a medical consultation," Dave Lin reported.
Sensing the tense atmosphere in the office, Dave Lin cautiously continued, "Additionally, I found out that Clark Gu is currently single. There shouldn't be any special relationship between Miss Jiang and him. In addition, Miss Jiang studied medicine at university, so they might have known each other from school. It's not certain."
Hearing this possibility, Andrew Li's expression eased slightly. "Other than this, have you found any other information?"
Dave Lin looked somewhat embarrassed as he replied, "Currently, this is all we've found. Regarding Miss Jiang, we only know that she recently returned to the country. As for her activities and whereabouts abroad, we couldn't find much."
Andrew Li furrowed his brows and felt a bit dissatisfied. However, since there was no more information to gather, he shifted the conversation to Old Master Qin. "How is Old Master Qin's health now?"
Dave Lin was relieved that the topic had changed. He replied, "Old Master Qin's condition is not optimistic. Qin's family has consulted renowned doctors both domestically and internationally, but they've been unable to find a solution to his condition."
Andrew Li nodded slightly. "Cancel all my appointments for tomorrow evening. I will visit Old Master Qin tomorrow night."
"Understood," Dave Lin acknowledged.
After waiting for a moment and realizing that there were no further instructions, he turned and left the office.
…
Ja Jiang and Clark Gu, upon returning to the research institute, immediately began the arduous task of contacting the various herbal medicine suppliers in Haicheng.
Due to the shortage of herbal supplies, many projects at the institute had been put on hold. If this situation continued, the losses would only escalate, and finding a supplier would become an urgent matter.
Before this, Clark Gu had already contacted almost all of Haicheng's herbal medicine suppliers, and they had all rejected him. Now, they had no choice but to make those calls again.
"Vir Research Institute? Haven't we discussed this before? Your offer is too low, there's no way we can cooperate with you!" The voice on the other end was quick to refuse.
After pondering for a few seconds, Ja Jiang gritted her teeth and said, "We can increase the price by half a point from the previous offer, compromising a bit. If we cooperate well in the future, we can always renegotiate the price..."
The voice on the other end interrupted her, "Too low. At least three points, or there's no room for negotiation."
Hearing the exorbitant demand, Ja Jiang simply hung up the phone.
On the other side, Clark Gu's expression was equally grim.
"Sorry, Dr. Gu, our herbal medicine has already been reserved, and we can't supply your research institute." It was clear that this was just an excuse to brush them off.
Clark Gu didn't push further. "Alright, I understand."
He ended the call.
After making call after call, and until the next afternoon, they had received no good news.
The attitude of the herbal medicine suppliers varied from polite to impatient, but the overall outcome was the same – they were not willing to cooperate.
In fact, one of the suppliers even directly told Ja Jiang that there was no way they would cooperate with Vir Research Institute and provided no reasons.
Both Ja Jiang and Clark Gu knew that they had been set up.
As for the person behind this, it was almost blatantly clear – other than Olivia Fu, they couldn't think of anyone else.
