Pauline sat in the passenger seat of the supercar, taking a while to recover from her shock.
She turned to Noah, her expression skeptical. "How did this car come about?"
Noah replied casually, "There's only one car at home. My parents went out to buy groceries and pick up Stella from school. Since I didn't have a car to pick you up, I had a friend send one over for me to use temporarily. I didn't expect him to prepare this one for me."
As it turned out, Xavier and Lydia had gone out to buy groceries and pick up their child.
Noah had instructed Dylan to send a car for him when he heard about it. Knowing that Noah needed the car to pick up his wife, Dylan promptly arranged for the Pagani Zonda.
When Noah saw the car, he couldn't help but feel a bit vexed, thinking that Dylan had prepared a vehicle that was a tad too flashy.
However, considering that Pauline would be off work soon, he didn't ask for a different car and simply drove over in the supercar.
Unexpectedly, they happened to encounter a wealthy young man confessing his feelings to Pauline. Without hesitation, Noah drove straight through the roses and took Pauline away.
After hearing Noah's explanation, Pauline, thinking that Rus had loaned the car to Noah, put her doubts to rest.
She stole a glance at Noah and whispered, "Aren't you going to ask me about what just happened?"
Noah replied calmly, "Ask about what?"
Pauline said somewhat helplessly, "About what just happened."
Noah smiled and said, "I trust you, and no one can take you away from me."
Pauline blushed and felt a mix of embarrassment and annoyance. This guy was way too confident and domineering, wasn't he?
Nevertheless, she still explained her relationship with Yves to Noah and made it clear that she had no feelings for him.
Noah's lips curled into a faint smile. He teased Pauline, saying, "Pauline, have you fallen for me? Is that why you're so eager to explain things to me, afraid that I might misunderstand?"
Upon hearing Noah's words, Pauline's face turned beet red in an instant. She retorted, embarrassed, "Who likes you? You narcissist!"
Noah and Pauline went home happily, leaving Yves looking extremely displeased.
He had thought that with his extraordinary background, wealth, and romantic charm, he could easily win Pauline over.
However, he hadn't anticipated that Noah, driving the Pagani Zonda, would show up at Pauline's company, effectively debunking his carefully prepared confession. He had become the laughingstock of the street.
His face was now ashen, and he instructed his subordinate, "Shadow, find out Noah's background and why he can afford a thirty-million-dollar supercar."
Shadow replied respectfully, "Young Master Luo, I already checked as soon as possible."
Yves frowned. "What did you find out?"
Shadow chuckled. "A Pagani Zonda supercar, there aren't many of these in the whole of Huaxia. According to my investigation, this car isn't registered under an individual's name, but rather under a company in the Northern Territory. It's listed as a company vehicle."
Yves looked puzzled. "Then why is Noah driving this car?"
Shadow chuckled again. "There's only one plausible explanation: Noah likely rented it through some car rental service, paying for it. Nowadays, many people who can't afford to buy luxury cars like to rent one to show off in front of family and friends, right? After all, even for a supercar, the daily rental isn't too steep. Most average folks can still manage it if they grit their teeth a bit."
Yves, his initial doubt and anger now gone, transformed into a cold smile. "Haha, I knew I had checked on Noah's background before. He's just an idle guy fresh out of the army. How could he possibly afford such an expensive supercar? So, he rented it."
Shadow cautiously added, "But Young Master Luo, Miss Pauline seems a bit aloof."
Yves coldly smirked. "Even the fieriest horse can be tamed. And the fierier the horse, the more satisfying it is after conquest."
Shadow asked, "So, what's your plan, Young Master Luo?"
Yves adjusted his golden-rimmed glasses and said with a cold smile, "Conquering Pauline may be a bit challenging. It seems I'll have to use some strategy."
After saying this, he took out his phone, randomly picked a contact from the ZhongHai University alumni directory, and dialed the number.
The person who answered was Lulu.
Upon receiving Yves' call, Lulu was pleasantly surprised, her voice trembling with excitement. "Oh, Young Master Luo, is it you? You called me. I'm so surprised!"
Yves didn't waste time with small talk. He immediately told her he wanted to organize an alumni gathering at ZhongHai University and asked Lulu to be in charge of coordinating and organizing the alumni.
As for all expenses, he would take care of them.
Lulu fawningly said, "Young Master Luo, you can rest assured. I'll make sure everything is handled properly."
Yves added, "I remember in college, you and Pauline were roommates. I miss her. Make sure to invite her to the alumni gathering."
Lulu agreed, "Of course!"
After a few more words, they hung up.
Lulu's boyfriend, Harvey, commented sarcastically, "Who was that guy calling you? You seem so excited."
Lulu laughed, "It's the Third Young Master from the Luo family in the provincial capital. But you don't need to be jealous. He called to ask me to organize an alumni gathering. And it seems like he's doing it for Pauline."
Harvey remembered Noah and Pauline, how they had stunned everyone yesterday at the rural restaurant with the BMW.
After they returned home, they inquired about Pauline's recent situation.
They found out that Pauline had established Ningda Company and even secured a major city project, indicating a promising future. As for Noah, he was just a freeloader.
The BMW from yesterday was probably also Pauline's.
When Harvey heard that Young Master Luo's target was Pauline, he felt relieved. He even joked, "We should help them get together. If it works out, Young Master Luo will surely appreciate us. Then he might give us a casual favor, and we'll benefit endlessly."
Lulu laughed, "Absolutely!"
...
In the evening, Noah was playing games with their daughter Stella when Pauline suddenly received a call from Lulu.
Lulu started, "Pauline, you've started a company. You're the boss now, and you've even taken on a major city project. You're acting like you're scrimping and saving. Are you trying to trick this old classmate of yours?"
Pauline smiled wryly, "Lulu, you've got it wrong. My little company has just begun, and we have a long way to go. Plus, our company is burdened with a lot of debt. I'm not trying to act poor, and I didn't mean to play a trick on you."
Lulu chuckled, "Alright, I was just teasing you. By the way, tomorrow night at Emgrand Hotel, we ZhongHai University alumni are having a gathering. Many classmates will be there, so you must come!"
Pauline hesitated upon hearing this. She wasn't used to attending these kinds of gatherings or alumni reunions, so she instinctively wanted to decline. "I'm not sure if I'll have the time..."
Lulu immediately said, "It's an evening gathering, not a daytime one. How could you possibly not have time? Unless, Pauline, you've become wealthy and look down on us poor classmates."
Pauline hurriedly replied, "Of course not!"
Lulu laughed, "That's settled then. Remember, tomorrow night at 9 o'clock, Emgrand Hotel. Don't be late!"
With that, Lulu hung up the phone, not giving Pauline a chance to refuse.
Next to her, Noah saw Pauline's wry smile and asked, "What's wrong?"
Pauline sighed, "It's Lulu from yesterday. She invited me to an alumni gathering tomorrow night and insisted that I attend. She said refusing to go would be looking down on our classmates."
As she spoke, her eyes suddenly lit up, and she looked at Noah expectantly. "Why don't you accompany me tomorrow night?"
Noah wondered, "Is it appropriate for me to attend your alumni gathering?"
Pauline sweetly replied, "You're my husband. What's inappropriate about going together?"
Noah wasn't particularly interested in this kind of socializing, but for Pauline's sake, he agreed, "Alright, then tomorrow night, I'll accompany you."
