Thump!
Thump!
"President Riley, I've placed the file containing the information of all employees in the company's design department on your table. Is there anything else that you need me to do?"
Olivia was seated at the chief designer's office in the morning but kept getting distracted.
Her heart beat uncontrollably and strongly at times, and her face would flush red simultaneously. The experience made her feel strange.
When she recalled how seductive Xavier was in the elevator last night, her heart would race rapidly, and it hadn't stopped since yesterday.
Anna's voice rang beside her ears repeatedly, but it was unsure whether Olivia had heard Anna's words or not as Olivia was unresponsive.
Anxious, Anna stood frozen in place. She didn't know whether to return to her seat and continue her tasks or to wait around for Olivia's reaction.
After a long while, Olivia took a deep breath and regained her senses from the various adverse reactions caused by Xavier. She cursed Xavier inwardly, only to turn around and notice Anna was still beside her.
"What's wrong? Is something wrong?" Olivia asked.
Anna nearly cried when Olivia asked her those questions. She shook her head. "No. Nothing is wrong. I... I'll make you a cup of coffee!"
After saying that, she hurriedly grabbed the coffee cup from Olivia's table and ran out.
Olivia scratched her head, feeling she was not acting like her usual self today. If she hadn't just returned from abroad and needed to familiarize herself with many procedures in the company, she would have chosen to go home and nap.
After the morning's events ended, Olivia received a call from Alice, her overseas personal assistant.
"President Riley, we have prepared the equipment and materials you need. Do we need to send them over to you today?"
"Yes. Please give it a thorough check. Don't miss any of the medicine and equipment," Olivia replied.
"Noted."
"Ensure you align your schedule with when the equipment arrives in the country. You need to be here the day after the equipment arrives. This surgery is very important to me. I don't trust anyone except you."
"Yes. Don't worry. I will make the necessary arrangements."
After hanging up the phone, Olivia saw Anna standing at the door, wanting to come in but not daring to.
"Come in." Olivia returned to the chair lazily and sat down. "Don't be nervous. This job is like any other. Just do the work I asked you to do well. I'm not a difficult person with many requirements."
Anna wrung her fingers and nodded. "Yes, President Riley."
"You've been here for a few days already. Have you gotten used to your job?" Olivia smiled as she tapped her fingers on the table casually.
Anna shook her head. "I'm still trying hard to adapt. But..." She blushed, glanced at Olivia secretly, and said mischievously, "I'm honored to be working with you!"
Olivia grinned. "Don't get ahead of yourself. I'm very strict when it comes to the job. Being my assistant, you must be serious and meticulous in everything you do!"
Anna straightened her back immediately and voiced, "Yes, President Riley."
Olivia received a call from the hospital in the afternoon, asking her to visit them.
Before Olivia reached Sofia's ward, she saw Dr. Zhang rushing toward her, exclaiming excitedly, "Ms. Xia, your mom's condition is improving!"
Olivia was confused by his statement, for she didn't know what he was saying.
Seemingly realizing he had made a mistake, Dr Zhang hurriedly changed his words, "No, no, I mean, Dr. Xue has responded to the request for her to be in charge of your mom's surgery!"
Olivia nodded. "Calm down, Dr. Zhang. Let's head to your office, and we shall chat there."
Dr. Zhang nodded, "Let's go to the dean's office."
Dean Zhao held a receipt in the dean's office and scanned it excitedly.
He got up when he saw Dr. Zhang leading Olivia into his office. "You're here, Ms. Xia."
"Dean Zhao!" Olivia greeted politely.
Dean Zhao handed the document in his hand to Olivia. "Ms. Xia, we told you to come today because we have good news. Through multiple rounds of communications and applications, we have received support from the International Medical Research Institute, and they have arranged to send us the most advanced medical equipment. These equipment are on their way to us. In addition..."
Dean Zhao added excitedly, "Ms. Alice, the personal assistant of Dr. Xue, also contacted us and said that she saw the email request we sent. Dr. Xue will visit your mom within three days after the equipment arrives, and she will be in charge of your mom's surgery!"
Joy filled Olivia's face. "That's great, Dean Zhao! Thank you so much."
"No. There's no need to thank me. I didn't do much. We've never expected Dr. Xue to be willing to do this for your mom! I'm sure it's your mom's blessing to have Dr. Xue in charge of her surgery." Dean Zhao chuckled.
It indeed was a blessing to Sofia.
With Zoey's widely-known reputation, people were proud of her wherever she went, and they bragged about her achievements.
The legend of her not failing any of her surgery was true. No one was more confident in curing Sofia than Zoey regarding a disease like Sofia's.
Besides, the hospital's ability to invite Zoey to their place was equivalent to adding a halo to the hospital, which was enough to boost the hospital's reputation tens or hundreds of times.
If the doctors at the hospital could seize the opportunity to establish a relationship with Zoey, observe her surgical skills, and learn some skills from her, it would greatly benefit the hospital, so Dean Zhao couldn't help but get excited over what was to come.
"But, Dean Zhao, I have a question." Olivia frowned.
"Go ahead, Ms. Xia," Dean Zhao replied.
"I want to know who prescribed my mom's medicine and prepared them for her?" Olivia asked, "Which nurse is responsible for her daily check-ups?"
Last time, Olivia secretly took Sofia's blood sample and conducted an in-depth investigation. Sure enough, she found something in Sofia's blood that worsened her mom's condition.
Olivia also took Sofia's daily medicines for testing. Finally, she found that there would be no problem if those medicines were taken separately by Sofia, but taking them together with the special medicine she gave Sofia would cause a chemical reaction, which would not only fail to control the disease in Sofia's body but would also worsen her condition rapidly.
Olivia had already found the medicine responsible for Sofia's deteriorating condition.
Even if she had practiced medicine for many years, Olivia would not have found the problem without carefully studying Sofia's prescribed medicine.
This told Olivia that the culprit behind this was cautious.
Dean Zhao was stunned. "Dr. Zhang prescribed the medicine. He is the expert on this in our hospital and is very professional. However, your mom's body is unique. Every time Dr. Zhang prescribes a medicine, he has to discuss and review the prescription with the overseeing deputy director. He will hand it over to the pharmacy nurse to prepare it after the prescription is deemed correct. As for the nurse responsible for your mom's daily check-ups, we don't have a fixed name list..."
With that, Dean Zhao asked, "Why did you ask those questions, Ms. Xia? Do you think there's a problem?"
Olivia shook her head. "It's nothing. You can get on with your work, and I'll head over to check on my mom."
After coming out of the dean's office, Olivia didn't go to Sofia's ward immediately. Instead, she headed over to the office of the deputy director in charge of Dr. Zhang and used her phone to check on something.
Half an hour later, she showed up at Sofia's ward with a darkened expression.
Sofia's condition had improved drastically these days, but when Olivia checked her pulse, she noticed the toxins in Sofia's body had increased.
In other words, someone had increased the medicine's dosage when they noticed Sofia slowly getting better in the past few days.
However, Olivia kept the truth hidden from Sofia. She only told Sofia that Zoey would come over soon to perform surgery on her, so Sofia should rest well and relax in the coming days.
Olivia found the nurse caring for Sofia and whispered, "From today onward, only give my mom the medicine I prepared for her. As for the other medicines, no matter who is the person to prescribe them, don't let her consume them. Call me immediately if anyone insists on witnessing her take the pills."
"Noted, Ms. Xia."
