A day passed, and it was the morning of the third day by the time Olivia woke up.
She had slept through a day and a night.
Her phone was out of battery, so she plugged it in. Then, she went for a shower. When she left the bathroom humming, she saw a sandwich and milk on the table.
And so, Olivia ate while lamenting that she had found a good house-husband.
Although his conditions were inferior, Xavier was hardworking, motivated, thoughtful, and attentive to housework. These attributes were more than enough for Olivia.
"It's pretty nice to live simply like this for the rest of my life."
Olivia was startled by her thoughts, wondering if she was really thinking about spending the rest of her life with Xavier.
She shook her head mockingly. People like her were destined to live on the edge, so how could she dream of such simple happiness?
Her phone rang from inside the room, and Olivia realized there were many missed calls.
There were calls from the Xia Family, Harper, Xavier, the nurse from the hospital, and several unknown numbers.
The current caller was the hospital nurse.
"Ms. Xia, you've finally answered your phone. Come to the hospital quickly. Your mom is awake and wants to see you badly!"
Olivia thought the matter was urgent. When she heard the nurse's words, she sighed in relief.
"Okay. Got it."
After ending the call, Olivia hurriedly changed her clothes and went out. She saw a note and a car key left by Xavier in the foyer.
He wrote: [I'll be away for a business trip these days, so you can use my car.]
To that, Olivia wondered why a hotel waiter like Xavier always had to go on business trips.
She scratched her head confusedly before grabbing the keys and heading downstairs. Then, she rushed to the hospital.
Olivia predicted that Sofia would wake up within the day, but she didn't expect Sofia to regain consciousness just after ten o'clock in the morning.
She ran to the ward excitedly. However, her expression darkened when she heard a commotion inside Sofia's ward.
The Xia Family had been taken to the police station by the police. There was no way they got out so quickly.
So, who else would show up to bother Sofia now?
Olivia pushed the door open to see Steven and his parents sitting inside.
"What are you doing here?" Olivia looked upset as she demanded unhappily.
Steven lifted his eyes and saw that Olivia was wearing a simple shirt and jeans, yet they did nothing to conceal the innocence and vitality that exuded from her.
Over the years, Steven had seen many women in heavy makeup and trendy outfits. Moreover, since he got together with Emma, the latter always had a full face of heavy makeup that she wasn't willing to remove even as she slept. So, in contrast to that, Olivia was a breath of fresh air as she was elegant, refined, and charming.
"You're here, Olivia!" Sofia, half-leaning against the bed, waved happily at Olivia when she spotted her daughter. "Come here quickly. Steven and your in-laws have arrived for quite some time. What's with you? Did you oversleep again?"
Olivia was stunned, giving Sofia a dazed look. She was unable to speak for a second.
"Mom... what's wrong with you?" Olivia pushed Steven and the others away as she moved forward to grab Sofia's hand.
Sofia gazed at Olivia tenderly. "What do you mean? I'm fine! The doctor said that I have recovered from my illness and will be discharged from the hospital soon. It's great news!"
Olivia still felt something was amiss. She glanced at the Lu Family. "Why are they here?"
"Hey, why are you speaking in such a way? Your in-laws deliberately came over with Steven to visit me. Steven said he will marry you after I get better." Sofia smiled happily. "You've grown so quickly, and is getting married soon. Oh, how time flies!"
Olivia mused, "No. Wait… didn't Mom know what happened between Steven and I? Get married? Is she kidding me?"
"Mom, please lie down and rest for a while." Olivia helped Sofia lie down. She turned to the nurse, instructing, "Get Dr. Zhang and Dean Zhao here."
"You silly girl. I'm feeling okay. There's no need to involve Dr. Zhang and Dean Zhao in this." Sofia furrowed her brows, frustrated. "Your in-laws are still here. Help me up. I want to speak to them."
Olivia put her hand on Sofia's wrist calmly, and she breathed a sigh of relief after discovering that her mom was not affected by amnesia but that her memory was somewhat confused because of the long operation hours and was a side effect of the multiple, dangerous cardiac arrests.
"Mom, they are not your in-laws, and Steven Lu is not my boyfriend. You are sick and confused." Olivia covered Sofia with the blanket as she spoke softly.
Sofia was stunned momentarily and looked at Olivia doubtfully. "What did you say?"
"Steven Lu is engaged to Emma Xia and will get married soon. Therefore, they are not your in-laws." After Olivia finished speaking, she turned around and looked at Steven coldly. "Young Master Lu, shouldn't you be bailing your in-laws and Emma out from the police station now instead of lying to my mom here? I wonder what would Emma think of your behavior if she finds out?"
"Olivia, your mom is not feeling well!" Steven's expression changed drastically, stepping forward and wanting to pull Emma away.
Olivia avoided his touch, sneering. "Does that mean you can take the opportunity to deceive her?"
"Olivia, what are you talking about?" The middle-aged woman next to Judd was Xena Yao, Steven's mom. With a smile on her face, she stepped forward and voiced to Olivia gently, "What do you mean by deceiving your mom? We are just stating the truth."
Their original intention for coming over was indeed to look for Olivia and ask her to find a way to bail the three members of the Xia Family out of the police station.
However, they didn't expect to be greeted with the news of Sofia regaining consciousness instead of Olivia appearing after waiting for the latter for a day.
Therefore, the family planned to convince Sofia first to see whether Sofia could persuade Olivia to give in.
After all, Tyrone was Sofia's ex-husband. Even though they divorced for various reasons a few years ago, they were an item for many years and loved each other.
They assumed Sofia wouldn't sit by and watch as the Xia Family gets divided and crumbled.
Besides, Xia Construction was Sofia's lifelong work. To save Xia Construction, she would never let Tyrone go to jail.
Of course, the main reason why the Lu family was so actively looking for ways to rescue the family of three was not because they were righteous and loyal people and couldn't bear to see the destruction of the Xia Family.
Nor was it because Steven loved Emma so much.
It all boiled down to the chaos at Steven and Emma's engagement party. During this period, Xia Construction encountered a series of trouble. Those who were harmed and cheated by Tyrone and the Xia Family's enemies got agitated and panicked after learning that the police had arrested Tyrone. They started stirring up problems at the Lu Group.
At the same time, the Lu Family had also run into a financial crisis. They initially planned for the Xia Family to save the Lu Family and introduce them to the Si Family after Olivia married into the Si Family, solving the crisis at the Xia Family.
Unexpectedly, until now, they could not benefit from this plan and were also weighed down by the Xia Family's mess.
Outsiders would scold them for being inhumane if they didn't help the Xia Family and would focus their hatred for the Xia Family on the Lu Family.
Judd and Steven were driven crazy by the pressure of various public opinions during this period, so they could only bite the bullet and seek Olivia's help.
They never expected that as soon as they entered the ward, Sofia greeted them warmly. She pulled Steven over, saying his name happily while mentioning she had recovered and wanting to know when Steven would marry Olivia.
The Lu family was confused, but then they met each other's gazes and quickly reached a consensus.
