“Yuan Zhang, I know you look down on traditional medicine, but he truly has a way to cure Mr. Lin.” Sam Xu said angrily, “And you, so easily giving up, is this worthy of your medical ethics?”
"What qualifications do you have? Who did you learn traditional medicine from? How many people have you cured?" Yuan Zhang asked.
"I graduated from a medical school and haven’t held an official job. I just drifted aimlessly for a few years," Thorpe Chen spoke truthfully.
"Hahaha, did everyone hear that? Someone who has never diagnosed a patient can cure Mr. Lin? Sam Xu, have you lost your mind?"
"Sam, are you joking?" Max Zhou's face dropped.
"I'm really not joking, Chief Zhou, would I joke with you?" Sam Xu stamped his foot.
"I think you just want Mr. Lin to die sooner. Kick this youngster out," Yuan Zhang said with malicious joy.
"Chief Zhou, thank you for caring about my father. But now that he’s like this, and Mr. Chen's displayed abilities are convincing, let's give him a chance,"
Adolf Lin, who had spoken with his father and came out of the patient room, said.
"Mr. Lin, I will try my best to delay as much as possible," Yuan Zhang said, "but I can’t guarantee much, given Mr. Lin’s age."
"No need, let Mr. Chen do it," Adolf Lin declined directly.
Yuan Zhang’s expression changed. Was Adolf looking down on him?
"Everyone else who are not involved, please take your leave," Thorpe Chen stepped forward, "Sam, may I borrow a set of needles?"
"Sure." Sam Xu quickly took out his medicine box.
Except for Yuan Zhang and Max Zhou, everyone else left. Sam watched excitedly as Thorpe Chen performed acupuncture.
Yuan Zhang sneered, “Traditional medicine is just superstition. If a few needles can cure, I'll write my name backward.”
Max Zhou frowned, a bit displeased, "Are you hoping Mr. Lin doesn’t recover?"
"That's not what I meant," Yuan Zhang, noticing Max Zhou’s displeasure, fell silent.
Sam Xu looked serious and said nothing. Yuan Zhang might have some reputation in Western medicine, but he had no respect for Sam, who was his senior.
Mr. Lin's cold lung disease was severe. Moreover, his leg neurons had been dormant, paralyzing him for years. Thorpe Chen stimulated his neurons with the Nine Lineages Acupuncture technique. Combining ancient medical inheritance and awakening his warrior path, treating such a disease wasn't an issue.
After an hour, the acupuncture was completed, and Mr. Lin's face visibly brightened.
"How do you feel, Mr. Lin?" Thorpe Chen asked.
"I feel much better," Mr. Lin said energetically. Everyone rejoiced, seeing that Mr. Lin seemed fine.
Thorpe Chen put away the silver needles, "Can you walk a few steps?"
"Get up?" Everyone in the room was stunned.
They knew Mr. Lin had mobility issues, his leg muscles had atrophied, and he had been wheelchair-bound for years. Could he be cured by just a few needles? Did this guy think he was a deity?
"Do you think you're some god, curing paralysis with a few pricks?" Yuan Zhang scoffed.
Yet, to his shock, with the assistance of a bodyguard, Mr. Lin slowly stood up.
"How do you feel?" Thorpe Chen asked.
"Good, very good. I feel strong and warm, I've never felt this comfortable," Mr. Lin exclaimed excitedly.
"Mr. Chen, is my father okay now?" Adolf Lin asked worriedly.
"Administer acupuncture once a week and complement with traditional medicine. He'll be back to normal in a month," Thorpe Chen said.
"That's impossible, how can this be?" Yuan Zhang was shocked.
"Why is it impossible? Isn't he cured?" Sam Xu felt very satisfied, thinking that Yuan Zhang needed this lesson learned.
"You traditional medicine practitioners are just superstitious. You must have used some magic," Yuan Zhang exclaimed.
"Get him out," Thorpe Chen frowned.
"Yuan Zhang, you’re suspended. Someone will replace you. Please hand over your responsibilities," Max Zhou snorted coldly. "Calling yourself a doctor but claiming Mr. Lin had only half a day to live? You're a quack." Max Zhou looked angry.
Yuan Zhang's face went pale. Max Zhou was in charge of the Fengling medical system. If Max Zhou said he was out, he was certainly out.
"This young man is indeed a skilled doctor," Max Zhou laughed heartily, walking over and handing out his business card, "Young man, I'm Max Zhou, in charge of the Fengling medical system. We need talents like you in Fengling."
"You're too kind, Chief Zhou. I merely lent a helping hand," Thorpe Chen replied politely, accepting the card.
"Mr. Lin, you don’t need to worry about your father's condition. Here's the prescription. Follow it, and I’ll administer acupuncture again next week," Thorpe Chen said.
"Thank you, Mr. Chen. Nichol Shi, please escort Mr. Chen back," Adolf Lin instructed his bodyguard.
"Mr. Lin, please." Nichol Shi was the bodyguard of the Lin family and also a confidant. He escorted Thorpe Chen out.
"Mr. Chen, this is a small token from Boss Lin, a humble gesture. Please accept it." After they stepped out, Nichol Shi respectfully offered a file bag.
"What is this?" Thorpe Chen asked.
"Boss Lin's business card, a bank card with a million in consultation fees, and a villa by Biyue Lake," Nichol Shi said. "Boss Lin mentioned that if you need anything in Fengling City, you can contact me directly. I am at your service anytime."
Thorpe Chen thought for a moment, realizing he indeed needed the money, so he accepted it, saying, "Please thank Boss Lin for me."
"No problem, Mr. Chen, please." Nichol Shi bowed.
When Thorpe Chen returned to the sickroom, Gloria Ye hurriedly approached him with a series of questions, "What happened, Thorpe Chen? How was Eddie Zou's matter resolved? Why am I in the hospital? This is Fengling's luxury hospital. How could we afford to stay here?"
"The issue with Eddie Zou has been resolved. Don't worry, it's good for you and the baby to recuperate here since you are not well," Thorpe Chen smiled. "I helped someone, and to thank me, they are covering all the hospital expenses. You can relax."
"Really? Are you... not lying to me?" Gloria Ye looked at Thorpe Chen suspiciously.
"Truly, I swear. My dear, I've said before, I will treat you better from now on and will get rid of my bad habits. You have to have some faith in me," Thorpe Chen said, holding her hand.
"Then, I believe you." Gloria Ye held Thorpe Chen's hand, and her mood gradually calmed down.
"You must be hungry. I'll make you something to eat," Thorpe Chen smiled.
The VIP room had a private kitchen stocked with common ingredients for pregnant women. Thorpe Chen had already purchased medicinal dietary ingredients. He rolled up his sleeves, and in no time, a medicinal meal was ready.
"This is deer antler chicken soup. Deer antler is sweet and salty, good for nourishing deficiency, strengthening muscles and bones, stabilizing the foetus, and easing discomfort. It's good for the baby," Thorpe Chen served her a bowl.
Gloria Ye took the medicinal meal and took a bite, and her tears started falling heavily.
"Why are you crying? Don't you like it?" Thorpe Chen was startled.
"No, it's delicious. Honey, we've been married for three years, and this is the first time I've eaten something you've made. I feel so happy. How great would it be if you could always stay by my side?" Gloria Ye said, crying.
A slight tremor ran through Thorpe Chen's heart. A pregnant woman's intuition is strong; perhaps she had sensed he was not the original Thorpe Chen.
"Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. I will always be by your side," Thorpe Chen smiled, comforting her.
Pregnant women need rest, and after eating, Gloria Ye went to sleep. This time, she truly slept peacefully. Thorpe Chen waited for her to fall asleep before he left the room.
He was ultimately going to leave. It had been a year; Enid Li, how have you and our son been? Thorpe Chen took out his phone, his hand trembling, and dialled Enid Li's number on the screen, hesitating whether to call.
How was he supposed to explain his identity? Tell her he had died and then been reborn in another body? Not to mention whether she would believe it, even if she did, would she accept him?
But his rationality was ultimately defeated by his longing. He gritted his teeth and made the call.
"Hello, the number you have dialled is out of the service area..." The cold mechanical voice shocked Thorpe Chen. Could it be that after his rebirth, the world he was in was no longer the same?
