"Who? Who's talking!"
The sudden sound startled George. He jumped up from the bed and looked around the small room nervously, but he didn't see anyone.
"Was it an illusion?" After George made sure that there was no one in the room, he laid down again, but there was still a look of uncertainty on his face.
"Wait, where's the ring?"
George suddenly realised that the gray ring on his finger had disappeared. It was still on his finger just a second ago, but now it was gone.
"No, it's still on my finger!" George was surprised to find that although he couldn't see the ring anymore, he could still feel the ring that was on his finger.
In other words, the ring was invisible? !
What the heck!
George discovered that since meeting the man who was dressed like a beggar, strange things had been happening around him.
He couldn't keep that ring!
George didn't dare to keep such a weird ring, and wanted to take it off and throw it away.
However, the moment his other hand touched the ring, his vision went dark and there was a feeling of weightlessness in his body.
When George regained his vision, he realised that the environment around him had completely changed.
Just a while ago, George was still in his small rental house. However, now he was in an open ground, surrounded by thatched houses, and there was a forest a stone's throw away. In the distance, there were even several large mountains that were connected together.
"What, what's going on?" George looked around dumbfounded. He felt as if his brain had stopped working. "Where is this place?"
George subconsciously rubbed his eyes, but when he looked around again, he still saw the same thing.
"Big brother, big brother, the village chief wants to see you."
Just as George was wondering if he was dreaming, a chubby kid with braids ran over and tugged on the corner of his clothes. His snot was running down his nose as he looked at George curiously.
"Village chief?" George asked in confusion. Then he squatted down, looked at the child and asked, "What is this place, kid?"
"This is our village." The child, who was about five or six years old, replied innocently.
"Then do you know how I ended up here?" George asked.
The child shook his head blankly.
"Okay, bring me to your village chief." George also felt that he wouldn't get the answers he wanted by asking a child. Maybe he could get the answers he needed from the village chief instead.
"Okay." The kid replied, leading the way while skipping.
The village wasn't big, so the two of them soon met an old man.
"Village chief, I'm here." The child shouted happily after seeing the old man.
Hey, this village chief looks familiar, especially those eyes, it was as if he had seen him before somewhere.
Suddenly, George seemed to think of something. He pointed at the village chief and shouted, "You?!"
The village chief who was currently standing in front of George was the "beggar" who ate the freeloader meal at his stall in the evening!
However, the "beggar" was unkempt and dishevelled. His facial features were blurry too.
Yet the person in front of him now was wearing a long robe had his complexion was ruddy. He had a flair of a immortality for some reason. If it weren't for those eyes, George might not be able to recognize him.
The two looked too different.
"Haha, I didn't expect you to recognise me in just a glance." The old village chief did not deny it.
"Yeah right!" George Wu said rudely, "Hurry up and pay me! How could you eat and run away without paying! Believe it or not, I will call the cops on you!"
"I've already left the ring with you, how dare you still ask me for money?" George was angry, but the old village chief seemed more furious. The latter's eyes were wide as he glared daggers at George.
"Speaking of the ring, I'm pissed too." George wasn't afraid at all, "How can your stupid ring be worth hundreds? I can get a prettier plastic one from a street stall for just fifty cents. Stop bullshitting and pay up, don't try to play anymore tricks.”
"This is infuriating!" the old village chief said angrily. "Do you know what the ring is made of? It's... you won't understand even if I told you! It won't be an exaggeration if I said that it's worth a fortune, but you, how could you say that it's not even as good as a piece of plastic?!”
"Yeah right, keep making things up." George smirked. "Since it is so valuable, take it back then. I only want my three hundred and sixty yuan."
As George said this, he stretched out his hand and motioned to the old village chief to pull the ring off. He was just worrying about how to take it off so it would be best if the old village chief could do it for him.
"If you weren't the only one who could wear this ring, why would I give it to you?" the old village chief asked angrily.
"It's just a stupid ring, you're making it sound so mysterious." George said nonchalantly.
"This ring gives the wearer the ability to teleport. Without it, how would you be here?" the old village chief said.
George was stunned when he heard what he said. Then, he remembered that he originally wanted ask old village chief for answers. However, he was carried away because of the sight of his "old acquaintance", and finally remembered what he was there for upon hearing the man's words.
"Yes, I was just about to ask you, where is this place? Why am I here? I was in my room just a second ago. Is this your doing?" George asked. He gave the old village chief a once-over, "Are you a magician? Did you conjure this place?"
"I am not a magician. You ended up here because of the ring on your finger!" said the old village chief.
"Ring?" George subconsciously looked at his finger though he didn't see anything there. However, he knew clearly that the ring was on his finger.
Could there really be something magical about this piece of junk?
"Yes, this ring was given to you by God. I am just a messenger." the old village chief said.
"God? Who the heck is that?" George asked in confusion.
Hearing George's words, the old village chief trembled with fright. He quickly looked around. After realising that nothing was amiss, he said to George seriously, "God is everywhere and omnipotent. You must be respectful."
However, deep down, George was scoffing at his words. As someone who grew up in an atheistic environment, neither gods nor ghosts existed. The old village chief was probably too superstitious.
"What is the use of this ring? Why did you give it to me?" George asked.
