"This starts from your previous lives." the old village chief regained the flair of a transcendent figure from another world, but in George's eyes, he seemed more like a charlatan.
"In your previous lives, you were extremely unlucky. Everything went wrong. Your wife and children were separated from you, you were framed by villains... In the end, you were poverty-stricken and had constant bad luck in each life. It was really miserable."
Although George didn't want to believe in reincarnation, he still trembled a little.
My previous lives were too miserable. Forget about just one life, to have this happen for several consecutive lives is really extremely pathetic.
"What about this lifetime?" George asked.
"This lifetime?" the old village chief looked at George, "Originally, you will still be extremely unlucky, and everything will go wrong."
George immediately thought of his own experiences growing up. It seemed that his luck was indeed quite bad, especially after he started working. He had worked hard enough, but every time he would be fired for various reasons.
He was really down with bad luck.
"But..." just as George was worrying, the old village chief suddenly spoke again.
"But what?" George asked quickly, although he still didn't want to believe it. However, seeing how serious the old village chief was, coupled with the fact that his life was quite miserable, George still subconsciously cared about what the chief said.
"However, God saw that you were really pitiful, so he wanted to help you." the old village chief said, "Hence, he gave you this ring."
"This God is too deceptive." George was dissatisfied, "If he is omnipotent, why can't he change my luck? Just let me have consistent good luck. Why give me a ring and act so mysteriously?"
"You...the gods are kind enough to help you, but you are being so ignorant!" the old village chief was angry again, "According to your destiny, your bad luck would last for several more lifetimes. This is how fate works, and even the gods cannot tamper with it casually. Handing you this ring and giving you the ability to teleport, between here and the real world... As for whether it can change your luck, it depends on you!"
What he said was quite mysterious, George grimaced.
"Okay, I'll teach you how to use this ring. You can figure out the rest by yourself. It's time for me to leave." the old village chief said.
"Leave? What do you mean?" George was momentarily confused.
However, at this moment, he suddenly noticed that the old village chief in front of him seemed to become different person. His eyes were not as bright as before, and he looked spiritually drained. Although there was no change in his appearance, George felt that the person in front of him was obviously different from before. It was an indescribable feeling, but he can clearly feel it.
At this time, the old village chief spoke again, "Young man, evil spirits have invaded recently. Many animals have been infected and have become extremely ferocious. They are destroying the crops and threatening the safety of the villagers. Are you willing to eradicate them?"
"The village chief has issued a task to you: kill ten demonized rabbits. Do you accept it?"
The familiar robotic voice appeared again.
The old village chief really changed. His speech became serious, and he actually issued a mission.
Mission, what the hell is this?
"The village chief has issued a mission to you: kill ten demonized rabbits. Do you accept it?"
Seeing that there was no response, the robotic voice rang in George's ears again.
"Accept, accept."
George didn't understand the mechanics of this world yet, but as long as he didn't accept it, the robotic voice would keep ringing in his ears. Therefore, he could only choose to accept it.
Sure enough, after he accepted, the voice finally disappeared.
"Since you have accepted the mission, complete it quickly. The villagers have been troubled by those monsters for a long time." the old village chief urged.
Under the old village chief's persistent urging, George walked towards the outside of the village in a daze.
"Are those the demonized rabbits that the village chief mentioned?"
When George reached the outskirts of the village, he saw a large group of about twenty rabbits eating the crops.
These rabbits were no different from the rabbits George usually saw. They were all similar in stature. However, when George got closer, he realised something different.
Although the eyes of these rabbits were also red, there were obvious black lines under their eyes, and their gaze was full of aggression.
When George was about two meters away from the rabbits, the two rabbits jumped up and rushed towards him. Their agility and movements were not like rabbits, but rather, like hungry wolves.
"Those really are demonized rabbits." George Wu was startled and instinctively took two steps back.
However, the two rabbits did not give up and rushed towards him again. Fortunately, the other rabbits did not seem to have the intention to attack George, but they looked at him warily.
Facing the two ferocious rabbits, George kept retreating. When he stepped back within the village, the two rabbits stopped chasing him and returned to their previous position.
"What kind of demonized rabbits are they? They're too fierce." George looked at the two rabbits leaving with lingering fear and muttered to himself.
"Young man, have you completed your mission already? Guess I really found the right guy." the village chief's voice came from behind George. He turned around and saw that the old man was looking at him with joy.
George looked slightly embarrassed, "What? I haven't killed any of them yet. What kind of demonized rabbits are those? They're too fierce."
"What? You haven't killed one yet? Then what are you still doing here? Go at once!" the old village chief, who had been friendly earlier, suddenly scolded him with a strict face. The quick change in his attitude made George amazed.
"Hurry up, don't dilly dally." the old village chief urged. He then turned around and walked off while muttering, "The generation nowadays... A cowardly bunch, they're far worse than we were back then.”
George was a little embarrassed. He mustered up his courage and walked towards the outskirts of the village again. No matter why he came here, he didn't need to think about it. He should complete the mission first. He couldn't bear to be looked down upon by the old man.
George soon came close to the demonized rabbits again. The rabbits were still eating the crops there. He did not go over immediately, but looked around and found a wooden stick more than half a meter long. He held it in in his hands and waved twice casually before walking towards the rabbits.
With the wooden stick in hand, George felt a little more confident.
