Following the female manager, they arrived at the door of Villa A09, and his mother-in-law Elen Zeng couldn't stop exclaiming in surprise.
"Oh my, this house is so big and so pretty! Dinah, what do you think?"
"The house is definitely beautiful, but it's so huge, it must be super expensive!"
Dinah Yang liked the villa a lot too. But she's always been about sensible spending and isn't one for extravagance.
"Mr. Stanley Du, from A01 to A10, these are the priciest and finest villas in Imperial Majestic Estates. All ten villas have the same layout, area, and price."
"A standalone house with a private courtyard, three floors above ground, one below. Covers an area of one acre, with a floor space of 720 square meters. Each square meter costs a hundred thousand, adding up to 72 million in total. But since you're friends with Mrs. Yao and Hedy Yao, I can give you a special discount. You'll just pay 70 million, and the villa is yours."
As soon as the manager said this, Elen Zeng's jaw nearly dropped.
Dinah Yang put on a brave face, but inside, she was astounded.
70 million!
With the money for this villa, you could buy 50 three-bedroom apartments in an average part of Ning City.
"I'll take it. Let's sign the deal now. I'll pay in full."
"Mr. Du is so decisive. I'll get the paperwork ready immediately."
Half an hour later, all the buying procedures were complete, and Stanley Du got the keys and access card.
He wrote down his and Dinah Yang's names on the property deed.
"I'll keep this property deed safe for you. Rest assured, even if it costs me my life, I won't lose it."
Elen Zeng snatched the property deed from Stanley Du's hand and carefully tucked it into her bag.
Stanley Du shook his head and resigned.
By now, he was used to his mother-in-law's greed.
After touring the big villa a few times, Stanley Du and the others went back to the Yang family home.
Roy Yang had already gotten off work and was at home.
Holding the deed for the top-notch Imperial Majestic Estates villa, Roy Yang couldn't stop smiling.
"Stanley Du, you really are a great son-in-law. Oh no, you're my own son. Don't worry. Once you graduate, I'll organize a wedding for you and Dinah Yang."
"Dad, when I get married, it isn't up to you!" Dinah Yang glared at Roy Yang.
"Father-in-law, when we get married, it is up to Dinah Yang. Let's discuss how we'll renovate the house first?"
"Stanley Du is right."
Elen Zeng nodded and instructed Roy Yang, "Roy, you and Stanley Du take care of the renovation. Make sure Stanley Du doesn't get taken advantage of by anyone."
"Don't worry, I know all about renovations. I was the one who got our old house done back in the day."
The next morning, Stanley Du drove Dinah Yang's car, taking his father-in-law around town looking for a good renovation company.
"Stanley, I looked it up online. The most professional and skilled renovation company in Ning City is Creative Space Renovation Chain. Turn left at the end of this street, and you'll be there."
Roy Yang, sitting in the passenger seat, directed loudly.
Following his father-in-law's guidance, Stanley Du quickly parked in front of the Creative Space Renovation Company.
They got out of the car, and as soon as they entered, a young guy latched onto them.
"You two looking to get some renovation done?"
"Yes."
"Then pay us fifty thousand first, then we'll talk about the renovation plan."
"Come on, we haven't even agreed on anything, and you want fifty thousand upfront? Is that how you do business?" Roy Yang raised his voice.
"Why are you yelling at me?"
The young guy said disdainfully, "Paying fifty thousand first before discussing the plan. That's our company policy."
Just then, a man in his forties walked in.
"Director Hu, you're back. I'll go make some tea right away to quench your thirst," the young guy dropped Stanley Du and Roy Yang and scurried over to the man, brown-nosing like there was no tomorrow.
Elvis Hu was the designer for Creative Space, and also served as the chief construction supervisor.
He was a big shot at Creative Spaces.
Spotting Roy Yang, Elvis Hu did a double-take, then burst out with recognition, "Roy Yang, my old classmate! Do you still recognize me?"
"You... you're Elvis Hu! Blimey, it's been, what, twenty-seven or twenty-eight years? Never thought I'd bump into you here," Roy Yang was chuffed to bits.
These two were high school buddies, same year and same class.
After high school, neither made it into university.
Roy Yang followed in his dad's footsteps, running the family clinic back in their hometown, Qutang Town.
Later, to get Dinah Yang into a better school, they moved to Ning City.
And Elvis Hu, after years of working various jobs, had finally climbed to his current position through his intelligence and hard work.
The well-dressed Elvis Hu, decked out in designer brands from head to toe, with a slick hairstyle and makeup, looked seven or eight years younger than his contemporary, Roy Yang.
Roy Yang also felt that his old classmate, Elvis Hu, had changed tremendously.
"Elvis, so you're working at Creative Spaces now. You've done alright for yourself."
"Just getting by. I'm the designer and head honcho of construction here."
Elvis Hu said with a modest chuckle, "So, Roy, are you here because you've got a house that needs renovation?"
"Yeah, but your folks here are saying I gotta cough up fifty grand before we even chat about it."
"Ha, rules are rules, but they're not set in stone, right? Don't get hot under the collar, Roy."
"So, what, I don't have to pay up then?"
Roy Yang perked up, "There's an understanding for ya. Elvis, don't worry. Once we nail down the details, I won't skimp on the deposit."
"Heh, Roy, you've got me wrong. If you want to talk renovating with me, that fifty grand has got to come first."
Elvis Hu said coolly, "Moreover, whether or not we can agree on the renovation plan, I won't be returning this fifty grand to you."
"What? Even if we don't agree on the renovation plan, you won't refund the fifty grand? That's just way too overbearing!" Roy Yang was extremely angry.
"That fifty grand, that's just for my time - a consultancy fee, you know."
Elvis Hu chuckled, "Our designers are top-notch. We don't throw away our time for free. If you're not paying a consultation fee, why should I waste my time discussing a renovation plan with you?"
Roy Yang was lost for words, gobsmacked.
"Fine, I'll pay the consulting fee."
Stanley Du handed over the money readily and said with a smile, "Mr. Hu, let's talk about the renovation plan."
"Haha, Roy, this young man is your son, right? He's got more get up and go than you."
"He's my future son-in-law."
"Son-in-law footing the bill for his father-in-law, now that's a rare find. So, where's this house, and how big is it?"
"Imperial Majestic Estates, Villa A09, seven hundred and twenty square meters."
"What did you say?"
Elvis Hu's eyes bugged out, his voice tinged with excitement, "Your new place is one of the Imperial Majestic Estates' big villas? Roy, you're not kidding me, are you?"
Feeling on top of the world, Roy Yang swaggered, "Why would I kid you? Not like I'd make money off that. My time, and my son-in-law's time, is way more precious than yours!"
