"Thanks a lot, Brother Nicole. But I really don't know anything. I'm not comfortable with such a high salary that you're offering me," Wendy Yang politely refused.
"Don't worry, if you don't know, I can teach you."
Nicole Bian looked at the youthful and beautiful Wendy Yang, feeling an intense longing inside, like a cat scratching at his heart, uncomfortably irresistible.
Stanley Du had seen many people in his time.
He immediately realized that Nicole Bian harbored certain feelings for Wendy Yang.
Wendy Yang was, after all, the cousin of Dinah Yang.
Stanley Du, poised to be Wendy Yang's cousin-in-law, couldn't just stand by and watch Wendy Yang get harmed by Nicole Bian, a married man, could he?
Just then, Wendy Yang's father, Sherod Yang, came running out of the kitchen, yelling at Wendy Yang, "What nonsense are you talking about, girl? Go help your mother with cooking. The guests are waiting for lunch."
Wendy Yang quickly ran into the kitchen.
Lunch was simple, with big bowls and plates of homemade dishes, eight cold dishes, and sixteen hot dishes, spread over five tables.
This was the so-called "roadside banquet."
The official wedding feast tomorrow at noon would be even grander, with thirty-six tables.
"Cousin, Brother Stanley, this pig head meat, steamed pork with rice flour, braised pig's trotters, and stewed soft-shelled turtle are all made by me. Please try them."
"Not bad at all. I didn't expect your cooking skills to improve so much, Wendy. These dishes are delicious. You're almost as good as the head chef at Harmony Restaurant," praised Roy Yang sincerely.
"Cut it out, Roy. You've had too much to drink, just blabbering away."
Nohe Bao glared at Roy Yang with a breath reeking of alcohol, "Have you ever eaten at Harmony Restaurant? Do you know how much their cheapest banquet costs?"
"Nohe Bao, don't look down on others! I really don't know how much Harmony Restaurant's cheapest banquet costs because I've never had it. I've only eaten at Harmony Restaurant once, two tables, one mid-range and the other high-end!"
"Yeah, right, your bragging is getting louder and more unbelievable!"
"I'm not bragging! That day, my wife's friend was celebrating her grandson's full month, inviting our whole family. They booked six mid-range tables. Later, her son's boss, Mr. Chen, a big boss, came. He invited us to a separate room for a high-end meal because my son-in-law once saved his mother's life."
"Wow, you're quite a storyteller. What's this Mr. Chen's full name?"
"Randall... Randall Chen! He's the big boss of Vastflight Group."
"Never heard of him." Nohe Bao turned to ask Nicole Bian, "Son-in-law, you've been around Ning City. Do you know this person?"
Nicole Bian paused for a moment before responding, "Vastflight Group is a well-known large corporation in Ning City, with assets close to two billion. Indeed, Randall Chen is the big boss of Vastflight Group."
As soon as these words came out, everyone was shocked.
Could it be that Stanley Du and Roy Yang really had a close relationship with the big boss Randall Chen?
"Stanley Du, was your father-in-law really not bragging?" Nohe Bao was still somewhat skeptical.
"Haha, he's just drunk and rambling. My connection with Mr. Chen isn't that strong."
With that, Stanley Du gave his father-in-law a look, signaling him to tone it down, to be more modest.
Roy Yang immediately sobered up.
He realized he needed to keep a low profile and not show off too much.
Showing off could lead to endless requests for help from acquaintances, which would be overwhelming.
Seeing Roy Yang suddenly back down, Nohe Bao became arrogant again, "Roy Yang, so you were just bluffing. I also think that your relationship with that big boss, Mr. Chen, couldn't be that good. You were just riding on your son-in-law's coattails, eating and drinking for free."
Clearly, this statement was a direct hit at Roy Yang's pride.
Stanley Du, smiling at Nohe Bao, teased, "Aren't you also basking in your son-in-law's glory? Otherwise, how could you have the chance to ride in a luxury car like an Audi A8?"
This remark nearly sent Nohe Bao into a fit of rage, making him feel like his heart was about to burst!
Meanwhile, Roy Yang felt exhilarated inside, thinking, "What a son-in-law! You really know how to put someone in their place! You must have driven that old fool Nohe Bao crazy, right?"
The other guests also thought Stanley Du's retort was quite sharp.
Earlier, Roy Yang was being relentlessly teased by Nohe Bao.
But with just one sentence, Stanley Du had turned the tables, leaving Nohe Bao utterly humiliated.
At that moment, with a loud bang, Nohe Bao furiously smashed his wine glass on the ground!
He stood up, pointing at Stanley Du, and cursed, "You fatherless and motherless wretch, you have no manners! How dare you mock me, your elder?"
"Get lost! I'm not related to you! Just because you're old, do you think you can act as my elder?"
Stanley Du's response was ten times more intense than Nohe Bao's.
He not only cursed at Nohe Bao but also splashed wine on his head from a glass!
Nohe Bao let out a cry as he was drenched from head to toe.
"You!"
Nicole Bian stared at Stanley Du, wanting to explode but not daring to.
"What, you want to fight me for your father-in-law? Just try it!"
Stanley Du gave Nicole Bian a cold look, scoffing, "Let me tell you, if your father-in-law were a decade younger, I would have smashed his head with the glass! He's been mocking my father-in-law, and when I retorted, he started cursing. He can curse me, but what right does he have to insult my parents? My parents are a thousand times better than him!"
Everyone was speechless.
Stanley Du was right.
This whole conflict was indeed Nohe Bao's fault.
In the countryside, respecting elders is paramount.
Stanley Du's comeback was to defend his father-in-law's honor.
Nohe Bao got a taste of his own medicine and even insulted Stanley Du's parents.
How could his behavior befit an elder?
Even if Stanley Du had hurt him, it would have been Nohe Bao's own fault.
Fortunately, Stanley Du showed restraint.
He didn't use the glass to hurt Nohe Bao's head.
Otherwise, Nohe Bao would have been seriously injured, maybe even fatally.
"Hey, my dear brothers, we're all relatives here. Can we stop fighting and give me some face?"
Lope Yang's father, Sherod Yang, came to smooth things over.
With his intervention, the conflict was defused.
Nohe Bao and Nicole Bian were pulled away to another table to drink, avoiding further confrontation with Stanley Du.
"Wow, Roy Yang sure found a good son-in-law."
"Yes, it's not enough for a son-in-law to just be wealthy. A good son-in-law should stand up for his father-in-law when it matters."
After this incident, Roy Yang's old acquaintances came to appreciate Stanley Du's character and actions.
This made Roy Yang feel proud and honored.
