Stanley Du remained silent and made a 5 cm incision in the upper right abdomen of the patient.
He then cauterized the area to stop the bleeding and gently separated the peritoneum using forceps.
Lastly, Dinah Yang inserted a suction device.
The upper right abdomen was where the gallbladder was located.
Gallbladder inflammation didn't produce pus.
If the patient had gallbladder inflammation, the suction couldn't draw out any pus.
But if it was ectopic appendicitis, the suction device would draw out the pus from inside the patient.
"Stanley Du, I don't believe you're better than an ultrasound! If you extract pus, I'll drink it all!" Sean Wang whispered.
"What if you back out?" Stanley Du paused and asked Sean Wang.
"Hmph, if I back out, I'll resign from the hospital immediately!" Sean Wang confidently stated.
However, just as Sean Wang finished speaking, a large amount of yellowish-red pus appeared in the suction tube.
Sean Wang and Dinah Yang were both stunned!
It really was ectopic appendicitis! The ultrasound was misdiagnosed.
Could Stanley Du actually be more accurate than an ultrasound?
Was he just guessing?
After removing the pus, Stanley Du placed the suction device on a sterile cloth to avoid contaminating the surgical table.
He then continued to separate the peritoneum with the forceps gently.
Soon, a swollen, purplish-black appendix appeared in front of the three.
Any doctor could recognize it as an inflamed, pus-filled appendix.
"Sean, you have two choices.”
Stanley Du looked at Sean Wang and said teasingly, “Either drink the pus or resign and leave!"
Sean Wang's face twitched, looking shocked.
He obviously didn't want to drink the pus.
Resigning was also out of the question.
So he chose to stay silent, acting stubborn.
"Alright, Stanley Du, don't be too hard on Sean. Finish the surgery quickly," Dinah Yang intervened.
Listening to his wife's words, Stanley Du swiftly and gently removed the patient's appendix.
Stanley Du also delicately separated the remnants on the gallbladder's surface.
It looked easy but was a challenging task.
The wall of the gallbladder was very thin, and if not careful, it could be punctured.
But Stanley Du was both quick and gentle.
He completed the entire surgery in less than five minutes.
Afterward, Dinah Yang helped Stanley Du remove his gloves.
She whispered, "The ultrasound report didn't indicate ectopic appendicitis. How did you know?"
Stanley Du paused and joked, "It's a secret technique passed down from my grandfather. If you want to learn, have a son and a daughter for me, and I'll teach you."
Dinah Yang playfully rolled her eyes at him.
Two minutes later, the patient, Theo Zhou, was moved to a stretcher and wheeled out of the operating room.
"The surgery was so quick?"
"It wasn't a failure, was it?"
"If anything happens to Brother Theo, we'll tear this small hospital down!"
Theo Zhou's buddies were loudly discussing.
At that moment, Theo Zhou woke up from anesthesia.
Seeing him awake, the yellow-haired boy quickly asked, "Brother Theo, how do you feel?"
"I feel fine," Theo Zhou replied, sitting up.
Feeling a slight pain, he took a sharp breath and looked at his belly.
"The wound's stitched up, so my surgery's done. Dr. Yang, am I okay now?" Theo Zhou said.
Until now, he still thought that the person who performed the surgery was Dinah Yang.
"Rest for a day and come back tomorrow to remove the stitches," Dinah Yang replied.
"Thank you, Dr. Yang. I'll be sure to repay your kindness," Theo Zhou gratefully responded.
"Just settle the medical bill," Dinah Yang said, feeling a bit guilty since Stanley Du had done the work.
Upon hearing about the unpaid bill, Theo Zhou signaled his buddies, who immediately paid the fee with great respect.
After paying, Theo Zhou and his buddies left.
A few nurses quickly gathered around and praised Dr. Dinah Yang for her exceptional medical skills, as she completed a surgery in just a few minutes.
The more they complimented her, the more uncomfortable Dinah Yang felt.
Finally, unable to bear it anymore, she said, "The surgery earlier was actually done by Stanley Du. And the patient actually had an ectopic appendicitis, but was misdiagnosed by the ultrasound as having gallbladder inflammation."
The nurses were stunned and looked at Stanley Du with shock.
They couldn't believe that Stanley Du, who they knew as a temporary worker doing menial tasks, could actually perform surgery.
Furthermore, it was Stanley Du who insisted that the ultrasound had mistakenly diagnosed the patient with gallbladder inflammation instead of ectopic appendicitis.
There had even been a heated debate between Stanley Du and Sean Wang over this.
But the facts spoke for themselves. The ultrasound was wrong, and Stanley Du was right.
This guy's diagnosis was even more accurate than the ultrasound!
He would definitely become prosperous in the future.
They realized they should have a good relationship with him and not offend him.
The next moment, the nurses shifted their focus and complimented Stanley Du.
Sean Wang, watching Stanley Du being surrounded by all the girls, felt a mix of bitterness and jealousy. He murmured under his breath, "What's so great about you? You just got lucky this one time."
Dinah Yang, standing nearby, overheard him.
"Dr. Wang, you lost a bet to Stanley Du. He was generous enough not to force you to drink pus, and yet you're badmouthing him. Have you no shame?" Dinah Yang whispered.
Her words stunned Sean Wang, making him want to flee, but then he heard Stanley Du's stern voice.
"Stop right there!"
"What do you want?" Sean Wang asked nervously.
Stanley Du took the suction device from the operating room, which still contained pus.
"Either you drink this, or you resign!"
Stanley Du said coldly, "You lost the bet. You can't go back on your word."
Sean Wang was helpless. He looked at the Dinah Yang for help.
Dinah Yang was disgusted with Sean Wang's behavior but tried to mediate, "Stanley Du, you're colleagues. Don't go too far."
"Too far?" Stanley Du scoffed, then turned to Sean Wang, "Before the surgery, how did you insult me? Dare to tell everyone?"
Sean Wang stuttered, not daring to admit that he had called Stanley Du an incompetent who only got his position through connections.
He even claimed that his medical skills and experience surpassed Stanley Du's.
But the reality was, that he misdiagnosed the patient, while Stanley Du effortlessly completed the surgery and cured the patient.
If Sean Wang admitted to all he said, he would only further embarrass himself.
"What exactly did Sean Wang say?" Dinah Yang asked Stanley Du when Sean Wang remained silent.
Stanley Du recounted the insults without exaggerating.
After hearing this, everyone felt Sean Wang was way out of line.
Even if he looked down on Stanley Du, he shouldn't have said those things aloud.
It only showcased his lack of emotional intelligence, especially when he couldn't diagnose a patient that Stanley Du easily did.
Dinah Yang grew even more displeased with Sean Wang!
After all, Stanley Du was her fiancé. She could reprimand him, but she wouldn't tolerate others doing so!
"Sean Wang, you should resign," Dinah Yang declared.
"What?!" Sean Wang was shocked. "Dinah Yang, are you firing me?"
"My family owns this hospital. I have the right to fire you."
Sean Wang pleaded, "I know I was wrong. Please give me another chance to make amends. Don't fire me!"
He was genuinely terrified.
With his mediocre medical skills, finding a new good job would be difficult for him.
"After what happened, it's clear you and Stanley Du can't work together. If your skills were better than his, I would've kept you," Dinah Yang said coldly, but reasonably.
Seeing that pleading was useless, Sean Wang had no choice but to go through the resignation procedures in despair.
He really regreted it now.
He really couldn't believe that Stanley Du's medical skills were better than his own.
Even more surprising to him was that his few derogatory comments about Stanley Du could cost him his job.
If he had known this would happen, he would never have provoked Stanley Du.
Seeing that Dinah Yang had dismissed Sean Wang, Stanley Du felt comforted.
It seems this fiancée of mine really stands up for me.
The rest of the day at the hospital was quite relaxed.
The colleagues in the hospital treated Stanley Du with much more respect than before.
At lunchtime, a colleague even bought Stanley Du a fast-food meal.
This was the first time!
After work in the afternoon, Stanley Du hitched a ride with Dinah Yang's car to Ning City University.
Then he packed all his dirty clothes, which he hadn't washed for days, into Dinah Yang's car, asking her to take them home and wash them.
"You're so sloppy; your clothes even smell sour!" Dinah Yang scolded Stanley Du with a look of disgust and quickly drove away.
At the Yang residence, Dinah Yang casually threw Stanley Du's dirty clothes into the washing machine.
Roy Yang and Elen Zeng were sitting on the couch watching TV.
"Sweetheart, whose clothes are these?"
"They're all Stanley Du's dirty clothes. He insisted that I wash them for him!"
"What?!"
Elen Zeng angrily jumped up from the couch, "This poor guy has gone too far! He's treating you like a servant. Who does he think he is?"
She then turned to blame Roy Yang, "This is all your fault, being too kind to that poor boy! Why did you give him two years? You should've denied their engagement from the start!"
Roy Yang tried to calm his wife and then asked Dinah Yang, "How did that young man perform at work today?"
Dinah Yang told the truth about Stanley Du's performance today.
The more Roy Yang and Elen Zeng listened, the more alarmed they became.
Without Stanley Du's insistence and intervention, Dinah Yang and Sean Wang would have misdiagnosed the patient.
Their small family hospital would have gone under if there had been a fatal mistake due to the misdiagnosis.
"Ahem, the young man does have impressive medical skills. He did a great job today. Let's consider washing his clothes as a reward," said Elen Zeng, sounding more subdued.
Dinah Yang nodded in agreement.
Roy Yang suddenly said, "Daughter, bring Stanley Du over for lunch tomorrow. I'll cook some special dishes to thank him properly."
Dinah Yang hesitated for a moment before nodding in agreement.
"You're inviting him over for dinner? Aren't you giving him too much credit?" Elen Zeng said, not pleased.
"You always think too little."
Roy Yang said with a cunning smile, "The young man probably learned from Old Man Chen. Being good to him only benefits us."
