At noon, before leaving, Jocelyn was making up in the room.
Arthur didn’t go out today. He sat at the window and read. Seeing She was making up in front of the mirror,he asked:
"Why do you go to the auction?"
"It's so boring to stay at home."
Jocelyn responded casually, "It's okay to hang out."
"Really?" Arthur looked at her back and said, "I'm going to the City Hall this afternoon. You can come with me."
Hearing that,Jocelyn's action on foundation was a little bit slowly.
"I promise our mother to help her discern between the true and false of those jewelry and paintings. It’s not appropriate to eat my words."
Arthur fudged, but said it as if naturally,
"I remember you used to hate such occasions."
Indeed,Jocelyn used to be submissive, probably because she had never attended big occasions in the world since she was raised at home. To go to these occasions was always like sitting on pins and needles, but the more afraid she was of making mistakes, the more likely she would make mistakes, and thus she often made jokes. Therefore, she became resistant of these gatherings.
But the woman in front him behaved natural and perfect in the banquet, and the appreciation of antique paintings and calligraphy was consummate.People who didn’t know her would definitely think she was a daughter of a noble.
"It was not until these two years that I came to realize that since I married you, I'll have to deal with these occasions in the future."
Jocelyn calmed down and said calmly, "Better to know more than to make others laugh in the future."
Arthur stared at her for a moment, then returned to the book and said lightly,
"After three years in prison, you have understood many things."
He did not dispel his suspect, but only tried to test her. Following the clues of these days, it was not difficult to find that Jocelyn was too concerned about all the things related to Gu's Group.
Thought of her hostility to Stan Judd, Arthur's eyebrows lifted slightly.
was it also because of Joanne Leonard?
At the auction, Jocelyn and Selena sat in very good positions owing to the identity of being a member of the Morrisons.
The elegant room on the second floor just faced the auction stage.
Shortly after they were seated, A medium-aged woman which was most trusted by Selena and was called Aunt Cora by members of the Morrisons came back from the outside and whispered beside Selena’s ear.
"Mrs. Ruskin is next door to us."
Jocelyn was seated so close that she heard it clearly.Or probably because Selena didn’t intend to hide it from her.
Selena nodded and looked thoughtfully at the partitioned wall as if she could see through it.
"What is Mrs. Ruskin’s background? Can't Mr. Morrison convince her if he moves out of the family?"
"You don't understand." Selena frowned.'She has a big background. What’s more, she can be persuaded by reason but not be cowed by force and is independent. In this circle, she shows kindness to the one she likes,no matter what her origin is. But if she doesn't like anyone, it's no use trying to please her anyway. As a result, many people suffer from depression from her.
"Aren't there many offenders against such a woman?"
"Of course, but she is competent. That’s why Abner ask me to apple-polish her this time."
When it came to this, Selena seemed a little angry. "Such a damn! Had he apologized to father, I shouldn’t have to stick to someone's cold buttocks.”
Jocelyn was clear from the conversation between Cora and Selena that Selena had no intention of taking pictures of winning the bidding of the things that Abner Morrison had asked.
"But does it matter if we ruined Abner’s plan?"
Selena gave Cora a ferocious stare. "I won’t do as he asked.Instead,he must apologize to father since there isn’t other way. I have stayed in this family for such many years. What do you think I am longing for?"
After receiving Cora’s many hints, Selena realized that Jocelyn was still there. She frowned at the moment and turned to warn her,
"You’d better keep silent when returning home."
They probably thought Jocelyn knew nothing about business, so they did not worry about her.Hearing the warning,Jocelyn smiled with seemly embarrassment at once,
"Mom, actually, I can't understand what you're saying."
Selena sneered, with a slight contempt in her eyes. "Indeed, what else can you understand except the ability of appreciating the jewellery and paintings thanks to you mother’s goodness?"
Jocelyn clenched her hands secretly, while with smile in face.
The Morrison family had suppressed Jocelyn for too long. It was still a long way for her to really stand erect.
