On a scorching summer day, around noon, the heat rose in waves. The old locust tree at the entrance of Qingshan Village looked wilted, its leaves drooping.
Under the old tree, Francis Wang, known as the village fool, was squatting and playing with a mangy dog.
Francis wasn't always a fool.
He was the only college student from Qingshan Village. But during college, he offended someone and got beaten, damaging his brain. Now, he had the intelligence of a three-year-old.
"Francis, come to my house. Let's play together!"
About ten meters away, a beautiful woman stood at the door of a red brick house and waved to Francis.
"Okay."
Francis stood up, scratched his head, and walked over with a goofy smile.
"Come in quickly. Don't let anyone see you."
The beautiful woman, Emily Zhang, pulled Francis inside and quickly shut the door.
After closing the door, Emily patted her chest and let out a long sigh of relief.
Because it was hot, she was wearing a thin, short-sleeved shirt. Many men in the village wanted to visit her house, but not Francis, who was a fool and didn't understand anything.
"Sis, can we play hide and seek?" Francis asked with a silly grin.
"What's fun about hide and seek?"
Emily looked at Francis, bit her lip, and fought an inner battle.
She married into Qingshan Village three years ago. The next year, her husband fell to his death on the mountain, leaving her a widow for two years. But she couldn't flirt with other men. If the villagers found out, they'd gossip about her.
Today at noon, she wanted to take a cold shower because it was so hot. Through the window, she saw Francis under the old tree. Looking at his tall body, an uncontrollable thought surged in her mind.
After all, he was a fool. As long as she didn't say anything, no one would know.
Thinking this, she made up her mind and said with a charming smile, "Francis, let's play a fun game. But you can't tell your parents. If you tell them, I won't play with you anymore."
"I won't tell them," Francis said, still grinning.
"Good boy, Francis."
Emily licked her lips and was about to help Francis take off his clothes. But then, there was a sudden knock on the door.
Hearing the knock, Emily turned pale. If someone saw Francis in her house, rumors would spread.
Emily tried to stay calm and smiled, "Francis, let's play hide and seek instead."
"Hide and seek? Great, I love hide and seek," Francis said with a silly smile, unaware he had almost had a pleasure moment.
"Yes, hide and seek."
Emily said quickly, "Hide in the wardrobe. Don't come out until I call you."
"Hide and seek, don't come out. Hide and seek, don't come out."
Francis grinned and hid in the wardrobe.
After hiding Francis in the wardrobe, Emily hurriedly dressed and opened the door.
At the door stood a middle-aged man. Emily's face changed, but she forced a smile. "Tribbiani, what brings you here?"
"I came to see you," Tribbiani Zhou said, his eyes leering at Emily. He reeked of alcohol, having drunk a lot at noon.
"Why did it take so long to open the door? I thought you were hiding a man," Tribbiani said.
"No... no way."
Emily felt guilty and awkwardly smiled, "I was... sleeping. Tribbiani, do you need something? If not, I'll continue... sleeping."
She was about to close the door.
"Don't."
Tribbiani blocked the door. "I drank too much at noon and needed a walk to sober up. I got thirsty and wanted a drink of water."
"Oh, come in then."
Emily bit her lip and let Tribbiani in. She went to pour water.
Tribbiani was the village bully. Emily didn't dare offend him and had to let him in.
Watching Emily move, Tribbiani licked his lips, feeling even thirstier.
"Here."
Emily placed a glass of water in front of Tribbiani.
Tribbiani took a sip and stared at Emily, "It's tough being alone. Today, let me take care of you. Being with me is better than being a widow."
As he spoke, Tribbiani stood up and grabbed Emily, hugging her tightly.
He had desired Emily for a long time. Today, emboldened by alcohol, he wanted her.
"Let go, you bastard. Let go!"
Emily struggled, but she was no match for Tribbiani. He soon threw her onto the bed.
As he was about to pounce, he tripped on a man's slipper. He heard a noise from the wardrobe.
"Who?"
Half-sober, Tribbiani stepped to the wardrobe and yanked it open.
"Hide and seek, hide and seek, three people play hide and seek," Francis said with a silly grin.
"Francis, you fool!"
Tribbiani was furious, jealousy burning. He couldn't believe the fool had hidden in Emily's house.
"Get out!"
Tribbiani dragged Francis from the wardrobe and shoved him hard.
"Ouch!"
Francis yelled, falling and hitting his head on the bedside table. He blacked out.
As Francis passed out, the jade pendant around his neck shattered. A green light shot from the pendant into his mind.
A voice echoed in his head, "I am your ancestor. At my death, I left a wisp of my consciousness in this jade pendant, a treasure of the Wang family. It can save a life of a Wang descendant. Now, the pendant is shattered, and my consciousness is released. I will strengthen your body and restore your mind."
"Times have changed, and our Wang family has fallen. It's sad and pitiful. Now, I pass on my knowledge to you. Learn my medical skills and cultivation methods. Help the world and save lives..."
