Abigail's mind was in turmoil.
She wanted to call Maxwell and apologize.
But she didn't know how to begin.
Despite being a CEO who commanded respect in the business world, that was her professional persona.
However, when it came to personal matters, Abigail wasn't very skilled in dealing with the opposite sex.
Moreover, as a heiress from a wealthy family who was also beautiful, the idea of apologizing was almost alien to her.
In addition to apologizing to Maxwell, she also wanted to confront Avery about why she had deceived her.
The betrayal by her close friend deeply hurt her, and she felt like giving her a piece of her mind and ending the friendship.
Yet, she was also hesitant to let go of their many years of camaraderie.
...
Just as Abigail's mind was in chaos, Avery finally finished her lunch nervously.
Maxwell checked her pulse, ensuring she was okay, before politely seeing her off from the villa.
As Avery was about to get into her car, Colin suddenly approached her, his expression serious.
"Please don't disclose anything about what happened here."
"Don't tell anyone else what you saw and heard here today!"
"If it hasn't been authorized by Mr. Clarkson to be disclosed, don't expect me to be lenient!"
Avery was frightened by Colin's sternness, nodding hastily. "Don't worry, I won't say anything. Not even to my closest parents or best friends!"
"You better stick to your words." Colin nodded in satisfaction and turned back to the villa.
Avery got into her car and paused for a while before starting the engine. After leaving the villa halfway up the mountain, she parked by the roadside, turning to gaze at the villas nestled among the mountains and waters.
"Alas! I wish I could live here!"
"Abigail, you're not appreciating your blessings!"
"How could you treat Maxwell like that? It's not right!"
"With Maxwell's capabilities, if you don't cherish him, then... why not... let me have him!"
As she thought, Avery's eyes flashed with a strange light. "In terms of appearance, I'm not inferior to Abigail. In terms of family background, the Larson family is not inferior to the Jerome family. If I could take a more proactive approach... there's still a good chance."
She leaned back in her seat, pondering for a while, then her lips curved up. "Let's start with a retreat as an advance. If I clear up the misunderstanding between you two, Maxwell, you will thank me, right? Anyway, even if the misunderstanding is cleared, Maxwell is still a country bumpkin in Abigail's eyes."
With that in mind, she took out her phone and dialed Abigail's number.
Abigail had just gone through intense mental struggles and decided to apologize to Maxwell first. As she took out her phone, she noticed Avery's call coming in.
She hesitated for a moment before answering, absentmindedly asking, "Avery, what's up?"
"Abigail! Don't invest any money in that project at my cousin's place from yesterday!"
Abigail was taken aback and asked, "Why?"
"Yesterday, what Maxwell said made a lot of sense, and I did some investigation, finding it quite similar to what he said! So, this project has no future. I absolutely won't invest in it."
Abigail's expression was somewhat strange. Her resentment towards Avery diminished quite a bit. From this reminder, it could be seen that her friend was still considerate.
However, toward Maxwell, Abigail felt even more guilty. She had misunderstood him again yesterday. Maxwell's reminder was very sensible. It seemed he mentioned Chief Harrison to increase credibility! He was well-intentioned.
"Abigail, are you listening?"
"Hmm, I'm listening... Thank you for the reminder."
"There's one more thing, I need to apologize to you. It was Maxwell who saved you that day, not Jaxon."
"Huh?" Abigail frowned and asked, "Why did you deceive me?"
"I did it for your good! You said Maxwell was the husband designated by your grandfather, you said Maxwell was a country bumpkin. But your grandfather isn't foolish either! He wouldn't just marry you off to anyone! So, that day I had a sudden thought to test him, see what kind of person he is."
Abigail didn't know what to say for a moment and sighed lightly. "Why didn't you tell me in advance?"
"I was afraid you'd blow your cover! You're not good at acting! And I wanted to test him again. But what he said yesterday shocked me. How could a country bumpkin say such things! I investigated and found out he was right. I feel there's no need to test anymore, this Maxwell isn't that bad."
Feeling grateful, Abigail couldn't help but express, "Avery, you went through a lot for me."
"We're besties, aren't we? Don't be so polite!"
"Well... how should I apologize to Maxwell?" Abigail pondered and said, "I can't let him suffer unjustly. I should apologize."
"It's not your fault... if it wasn't for my deliberate testing, you wouldn't have misunderstood him. It's my fault, I'll talk to him! I find it easier to speak than you."
Abigail thought for a moment, feeling grateful. "Thank you so much!"
"Don't mention it, we're besties! Fix a time, I'll treat Maxwell to a meal."
"Okay! Thank you for your help."
On Avery's end, she put away her phone and sighed in relief.
Finally, there was an excuse to ask Maxwell out alone.
After a few times alone, at least they could become friends, right?
Avery felt sorry for Abigail's happiness.
And... Jaxon! He had to step up and win over Abigail.
Then, Maxwell would belong to Avery!
She pondered for a moment and dialed Jaxon's number.
...
After hanging up the phone, Abigail finally relaxed, deeply feeling that Avery was indeed a great friend.
Back home, she couldn't help but furrow her brows because Jaxon was unexpectedly in the living room.
Seeing Abigail coming in, Jaxon smiled and said, "Abigail, I have something to tell you."
Abigail snorted coldly and said, "Shameless scum! How dare you come here!"
"Abigail!" Peter hurriedly intervened, "Mr. Wade has already explained everything to us. It was Avery, that girl, who made him say that! It wasn't his intention to deceive you."
"Yeah..." Sophia chimed in, "It was Avery who couldn't stand that brat, Maxwell, so she dragged Mr. Wade into it."
Seeing Abigail's expression soften a bit, Jaxon breathed a sigh of relief, feeling fortunate that Avery's call had come just in time! Otherwise, he wouldn't know how to explain everything.
His cousin Avery was considerate, taking all the blame!
"Abigail, I know I was wrong. I shouldn't have lied to you, shouldn't have agreed to my cousin's nonsense."
"Well, I know." Abigail's expression was indifferent, without any surprise.
"So, you're not mad at me anymore."
"Even if I am, I'm a bit tired..."
After saying that, Abigail turned and went upstairs.
Watching Abigail's graceful figure, Jaxon's eyes couldn't hide his fiery passion.
It was not easy to chase after an ice queen!
Fortunately, Jaxon promised to help!
Now that Jaxon sorted out Abigail and her parents, it seemed he could use some special means to melt Abigail's heart.
