In the hall, onlookers observed the unfolding scene with a mix of emotions.
Some felt for Blake, a renowned figure in Delington, compelled to kneel before Connor in humiliation.
Such was the plight of the vulnerable.
But did resistance truly matter?
Others admired Connor, the esteemed third son of the Seabrooke family in Hesningington, who could command Blake to kneel openly.
Such was the might of the powerful.
The feeble could be trampled and crushed beneath their feet.
...
Silence enveloped the room as all awaited the inevitable moment of Blake's submission.
Abruptly, derisive laughter rang out.
"Who's the one draped in mourning attire? Who in your family has passed?"
"Blake, align with the 7 dollars gang. No need to kneel, just stand tall."
All eyes turned to Maxwell, the source of the mocking voice.
Abigail's lovely countenance suddenly paled. She felt the urge to throttle Maxwell. Was this the appropriate time for you to speak?
She murmured, "Hush! Do you wish to bring about the demise of the Jerome family along with yourself?"
As if oblivious, Maxwell loosened his grip on Abigail and, as if by magic, produced a crumpled 7-dollar bill, extending his hand to slip it into Connor's jacket pocket.
"My sympathies! I am unsure if it is your father or mother who has passed."
"By the way, I am unaware of your mother's maiden name."
Thudded!
Though Blake did not kneel, he was so startled by Maxwell's actions that he slumped to the ground.
The room fell even quieter, punctuated only by gas.
Cursed!
This man was insane!
How dare he mock the son of the Seabrooke family in Hesningington.
Who did he think he was?
Connor also looked shocked. He glared at Maxwell, full of rage, and raised his hand to strike Maxwell.
Snapped!
A sharp slap echoed.
But it didn't land on Maxwell's face.
Maxwell's reflexes were quicked and his slaps were stronger.
There was an additional five-finger mark on Connor's face.
"Fuck you!" Connor's eyes were red. No one dared to hit him, especially not in Delington, even in the provincial capital. He raised his hand again without hesitation.
Snapped!
Before he could extend his hand, Connor was dealt another blow to the face, imprinting another set of five fingerprints on the opposite side.
"Damn it!"
Cracked!
"I'll kill you..."
Cracked!
Connor's mouth fell agape as a forceful blow landed on his face.
Following several successive slaps, his head reeled leaving him too petrified to utter a word.
Thudded!
Thudded!
In the hall, at least twelve people collapsed in amazement.
The tension was mounting!
The son of the Seabrooke family in Hesnington had been attacked!
He was publicly beaten!
How shocking! Certainly the most significant news in Delington today!
Abigial's body trembled, and she nearly fell to the floor. Her beautiful face went pale, and her lips quivered slightly. Did this rascal even realize what he was doing?
Finished!
Not to mention himself, but the entire Jerome family will be buried with him!
For a moment, Abigail felt like the world was spinning and she was about to faint.
After being slapped by Maxwell, Connor was dumbfounded for a moment. He touched his burning face and his eyes were red.
"You dare to hit me?"
"How dare you hit me?"
"Here comes someone! Where the hell did they go? Kill him! Chop the body into pieces and feed it to the dogs!"
The group of strong men behind Connor roared and rushed towards Maxwell as if they had been beaten to death.
"Kill him!"
"Kill him!"
Connor's bodyguards were responsible for his safety, yet they were surprised to see someone bold enough to strike him.
The bodyguards were initially shocked and only snapped out of it when Connor raised his voice.
Fearing Connor's retribution for their failure, they held back their actions.
People who assaulted Master Seabrooke will face a grim fate!
Maxwell was met with a mix of pity and satisfaction from onlookers.
This fool daring to disrespect the Seabrooke family, would meet his end soon.
Abigail felt such despair that she shut her lovely eyes and couldn't bear to witness Maxwell being brutally attacked.
"Stop!"
Suddenly, a cold voice pierced the air. Although not loud, it reached everyone.
All eyes turned towards the entrance as a stunning young woman strode in. Clad in a long skirt that accentuated her alluring figure, she exuded grace and opulence. Her crimson eyes held a hint of mischief, while her slightly furrowed brow hinted at a touch of superiority.
Even before she reached them, she had captured everyone's attention.
Nora!
Blake's eyes sparkled with hope. Thank heavens, aid had arrived!
Maxwell had initially planned to confront these individuals, but to his surprise, he enlisted the help of his elder sister. He shook his head, wearing an expression that hinted at unfinished business.
Nora cast a glance at him before turning away.
Maxwell understood the message conveyed by her glance and subtly stepped back, feigning indifference as if he had no connection to Nora.
Nora swiftly approached Connor, noticing the purple marks on his face, causing a slight twitch at the corner of her mouth.
Maxwell that little rascal was truly heartless!
He reminded me of our sister from back in the day, I quite like it!
"Who did I think was so formidable? It turns out to be the third son of the Seabrooke family in Hesningington!"
Nora's eyebrows arched in a smile, her red lips slightly parted and delivering her words pleasantly.
Connor was captivated by Nora's charm and felt a warm sensation in his heart. He discreetly admired Nora's elegant white calves peeking out from under her skirt. The allure of the most beautiful woman in Delington was undeniable!
However, he masked his feelings well. Knowing Nora's husband, Miles, was not one to be trifled with. Miles hailed from the prestigious Tipton family in Rougerntwood City.
Concealing his inner turmoil, Connor smiled and inquired, "Ah, Mrs. Tipton. Are you interested in involving yourself in Seabrooke family matters?"
Nora undeterred and countered with a smile, "How could the happenings in Delington be of no consequence? The Blake Group is a shining star in our city. While it may not hold significance for your family, in Delington, it's a cherished gem."
Connor's eyes narrowed as he realized Nora's allegiance to the Blake Group.
Given the success of the Blake Group in Delington, Connor opted to show respect and replied, "Mrs. Tipton, you misunderstand. The issue between Blake and me is resolved."
With a steely gaze, Connor pointed at Maxwell and added, "It was that reckless young man who crossed the line! He offended the honor of our Seabrooke family!"
"Oh?" Nora glanced at Maxwell and smiled slightly. She said, "He looks sincere and straightforward. He doesn't seem like a tyrant. How did he upset you?"
Connor's anger suddenly flared up and said, "Damn it, Nora. You bitch!
Were you trying to mock me?
Were you fucking blind? Can't you see it? Were the slap marks on my face fake?
Just wait for it. When your facade crumbles. I would surely seek revenge with my own hands!"
