Entering the spacious bowling alley, several young men approached them. The leader was an imposing figure, dressed in light-colored designer sportswear with neatly styled hair and gold-rimmed glasses. He could be considered as a talented person.
Avery pulled Abigail aside and said with a smile, "Abigail, meet my cousin Jaxon! He's a top student at the University of Birmingham! Brother, this is my best friend Abigail, known as a famous beauty in Delington! Am I right?"
Jaxon looked impressed and greeted Abigail with a smile, "Hello, Ms. Jerome! I've heard great things about you!"
Abigail nodded politely, "Hello, nice to meet you."
Jaxon turned to look at Maxwell behind him and inquired, "And who is this?"
Avery quickly interjected, "Hey! Brother, don't you remember? He's the guy I mentioned earlier! The naive one with big dreams!"
Upon hearing this, several young men behind Jaxon jeered.
Concerned that Maxwell might report back to her grandfather, Abigail reassured him, "Maxwell, that's just how Avery is. Please don't take it to heart."
Jaxon smiled and said, "Avery, why do you speak like that? Maxwell seems modest and straightforward at first sight."
Avery chuckled and covering her mouth, "Exactly! You are well-educated! You're right!"
A few young men jeered once again.
"Master Wade is quite the talker!"
"Hahaha, modest and straightforward, I've learned something!"
…
Maxwell inwardly shook his head. The quality of Abigail's friends needed some refinement!
He chose not to engage with them. As they began playing ball, he settled into a nearby chair, sipping a drink. Meanwhile, he admired the elegant forms of Abigail and Avery as they played.
Speaking of form, Abigail's proportions were exquisite. Particularly her slender legs, which left one spellbound.
But Avery's posture was reminiscent of the elegant widows in the mountain village. It was once noted that women with such a physique were ideal for bearing children and continuing the family lineage.
At that moment, Jaxon and another affluent young man engaged in a competition, drawing a crowd of spectators.
Avery gestured towards Jaxon, remarking, "Abigail, my cousin excels at this game! Back in Birmingham, he reigned as the college league champion! Just observe his poised stance! He's aced all three shots!"
"Indeed, observe the grace of Master Wade! That's true refinement!"
"I've heard Master Wade holds a black belt in Taekwondo!"
"A true polymath, excelling in both arts and warfare!"
"If that lady captures Master Wade's favor, she'll be blessed for generations!"
Amidst the flattery, Jaxon emerged victorious in a round. Approaching Abigail, he took a sip of water and proposed, "Abigail, Avery mentioned your prowess in bowling. Care for a match?"
Abigail shook her head, "I don't dare to show off my skills. I'm a little tired from playing with Avery just now. Let's play again later."
"That's fine!" Jaxon smiled and said, "I saw you when you were playing ball just now. Your postures were very standard. There are only a few minor flaws. I will help you correct them later."
Avery smiled and said, "Abigail, you and my cousin have something in common! We are from the same world! Some people in this world have no self-awareness! They desire something that is completely out of reach."
Maxwell sighed after hearing this, "Avery, although you are Abigail's best friend, I have to remind you."
Avery looked provocative, "What are you reminding me of?"
Maxwell said with a smile, "Don't ridicule your cousin in front of so many people. If you say that someone desires something that is completely out of reach, say it in private, don't say it in front of so many people. Your cousin is a man and wants to avoid embarrassment!"
"Ah? You..." Avery opened her mouth and was speechless for a moment.
The rich young men all looked at Maxwell with strange expressions. Was this man stupid? Could you understand human's talk? Avery was talking about you!
Jaxon felt irritation, but maintained a smile, "Sister, regardless of our status here, we are all friends. Maxwell's presence shows his effort to integrate into our circle. Maxwell, am I right?"
"No interest, goodbye," Maxwell retorted, visibly vexed. His outing disrupted by trivialities, clashed with his sense of purpose. Time was precious. He refused to squander it.
"Leaving so soon?" Avery interjected, "Abigail took you out, and you're leaving just like that? Isn't that disrespectful to her?"
"Avery, perhaps he's embarrassed?"
"Look at him, he doesn't seem like a bowler!"
"Indeed, he must be feeling ashamed!"
Mockeries echoed from the affluent youths.
Abigail with a stern expression, warned, "Maxwell, if you depart now, I'll inform Grandpa that you slandered me in public!"
"Abigail, let it go," Jaxon asserted confidently, "Bowling isn't his forte. It's an aristocratic pursuit, beyond his realm."
Maxwell sneered, "Aristocrat? Is hitting a bottle with a ball what makes you noble? This aristocracy is quite amusing. It's like a monkey on a mountain throwing fruit at people. Not even as decorative as the monkey! The bottle is too captivating. What's the use of being proud if you can't move and just get hit?"
Jaxon's expression darkened as he retorted, "What right does a country bumpkin like you have to criticize aristocratic sports? It's funny!"
Avery chimed in, "Humph! Maxwell, you're just trying to hide your insecurities, aren't you? You've never even touched a bowling ball and you're scared of looking foolish, so you're running away!"
"If you think it's so easy, then prove it! Don't back down if you're capable! Let's challenge Master Wade!"
Jaxon smirked condescendingly, "Let it go, don't make things hard for him! Just say it for the sake of appearances. Getting someone upset will only embarrass Abigail."
Maxwell glanced at the frosty Abigail and realized that leaving like this would surely lead to trouble with Victor. He couldn't let the old man lose face at home.
Victor had been kind to him, and he couldn't make things uncomfortable for the old man.
Maxwell smiled and proposed a challenge, "Let's have a competition. It's unfair to smash something stationary. if like that I miss one bottle in ten throws, I lose. Jaxon, are you up for the bet?"
The room erupted in chatter.
"Abigail, this guy sure loves to boast!"
"Why is beef so pricey? Oh, because cows are dead because of hearing his big talk!"
"Hehe! Witnessing a chatterbox in action today!"
…
Jaxon gestured, "Let's stick to the standard rules. The loser buys lunch for everyone."
"Just a lunch. Don't be narrow-minded!" Maxwell scoffed, walking to the lane, and picking up a bowling ball without using the finger holes.
Avery stifled a laugh, "Oh my, look at that! How does he even hold the ball? Isn't he worried about dropping it on his feet?"
Yes, he genuinely believed it was a monkey grabbing the fruit!
What a shame to allow him to bowl!
...
There was not just sweat in this finger hole, but also bloodstains. You didn't wear gloves while playing, and you were a noble! You truly disregard hygiene! Were you not afraid of contracting hepatitis B?
The expressions of everyone changed dramatically.
Maxwell raised the corner of his mouth, flicked his hand and the bowling ball soared down the lane.
Thump!
Wow!
Strike! Knock down all ten pins!
