Murray's words triggered Abigail. Never could she ever imagine that a son-in-law who married into his wife's family would dare to flaunt like this.
One must know, she was not only Freya's best friend but was also the daughter of the Nelson family, which specializes in dealing with antiques, with a net worth of over millions. How can Murray even compete with her?
However, Abigail did not rush to challenge Murray. After calming down a little and regaining her composure, she regarded what Murray said as a cover for his excessive inferiority complex.
So that was why regardless of how arrogantly Murray behaved, he was still regarded as a poor boy with no background and no prestige.
Everyone looked down on Murray.
How can a mere son-in-law who married into his wife's family compare with them?
Abigail, who had now figured out the motives behind Murray's actions, could not be bothered to even talk with Murray and stoop down to his level.
Soon, all four of them arrived at the fifth floor.
After opening the door labeled 'Triumph Hall', a dozen men and women who had gathered inside the room came into Murray's sight.
Each one of these individuals was dazzling and radiant, as though they had been bejeweled. Everyone was also in high spirits. The entire spectacle reflected the extreme wealth and high status of these guests.
Seeing Freya and her entourage appear, everyone turned their heads and stared at them, their eyes marginally lighting up in anticipation.
It was evident that Freya's physical beauty was a very impactful visual spectacle that would leave a lasting impression etched in the minds of individuals who lay their eyes on her.
"Freya, Charlotte, Abigail, you have all arrived?"
One of the chubby young men let out a loud, boisterous chuckle and led the crowd forward to greet and interact with Freta and her entourage.
The chubby young man had a high nose and a huge body. He was draped in designer apparel from head to toe, including gold chains around his hands and on his neck, as well as three large gold rings on his fingers.
His entire presence screamed his status as a nouveau riche.
"Plump Lewis, you really haven't changed in years and still are as vulgar as ever."
Charlotte snorted, "Still clinging onto those embarrassing things like gold rings and chains."
Freya introduced the chubby young man to Murray Ye in a low voice, "Glenn Lewis, one of the sports committee members back then. He is the son of the owner of West Coal Mines, but his father's business had already gone bankrupt."
Murray nodded slightly, secretly thinking that Glenn really did live up to his name of 'luring in good wealth and honor'. Compelling indeed!
"I want do want to get rid of these too," Glen started.
He smiled brightly while saying, "There's nothing I can do. The coal mines that my family owns had been dug out and emptied long ago, and our family's fortune had also been completely exhausted."
"This set of gold jewelry is all I have left," Glenn continued.
"These are my last bargaining chips to continue staying in the wealthy circles. Without them, I might not even be able to get through the door of this club."
Although Glenn looked like a nouveau riche, he was still rather straightforward in his speech and mannerisms, which made Murray feel more warmer and cordial.
Charlotte sneered, "You're a bumpkin, uncultured, vain and ostentatious."
"Freya, our campus belle, you're getting more and more beautiful."
Glenn ignored Charlotte and started interacting with Freya instead with a friendly expression, "It's a pity that my family went bankrupt, otherwise I would definitely woo you."
"Stop with your wishful thinking."
Abigail replied nonchalantly, "Freya is already taken."
"There, this person next to me, the one who married into Freya's family. This is Murray Yoxall, Freya's husband."
Glenn and his crowd of friends let out an exclamation of skepticism, looking at Murray in disbelief.
None of them expected that this inconspicuous man, who had no presence entirely, was Freya's husband.
"Don't be surprised. Although he is indeed Freya's husband, he is also actually just a tool in their marriage."
Abigail continued expressing her immense hostility towards Murray, "Freya can kick him away at any time."
"Abigail!"
Freya frowned slightly showing her disapproval towards Abigail for speaking inappropriately about her husband.
However, Murray did not seem to care about Abigail's comment and greeted the group graciously, "Hello everyone."
The dozen fashionable men and women battered their eyelids, their erratic gaze trying to find the next topic of focus amid Murray's greeting. They curled their lips and completely ignored Murray's presence.
It was Glenn who took a step forward to acknowledge Murray's greeting with a business card as he replied humbly, "Hello, Brother Murray. I am Glenn, very pleased to meet you. Let's get along well!"
Although Murray looked even more miserable than himself with the lack of gold chains hanging off his body, Glenn firmly believed that having one more connection meant one more path to success.
Murray took the business card and smiled beamingly, replying, "Hello, a pleasure to meet you."
"A loser and an uncultured bumpkin."
Charlotte commented, full of disdain, "I guess birds of a feather do indeed flock together."
"Come on, Charlotte, let's not talk about them anymore. When will Mr Cooper arrive?"
Abigail glanced at Murray in contempt, "Freya's problem regarding the turnover of capital needs to be solved as soon as possible."
Murray was slightly startled as he was not aware that something happened to Freya's company.
Glenn's eyes instantly widened in shock as he blurted out, "Freya, you are facing a cash flow problem?"
"Well, there's indeed a small problem."
Freya's mouth was twitching as she replied. She glanced over at Murray and tried to keep her cool. Since she had made up her mind to attend the party today, she could not care less if Murray was kept in the loop regarding her situation or not.
However, at the same time, she could not help but feel a little conflicted internally. If Murray was not this useless, would she even need to seek her best friend's help to seek possible avenues to borrow money?
In that situation, Glenn, who felt that his level of wealth and prestige could still be of value, asked, "How much are you short of?"
"Plump Lewis, what does that have to do with you anyways?"
Charlotte replied conceitedly, "Your family is already an empty shell: poor and useless. What else can you possibly do? Sell whatever bit you have and lend that peanut amount to Freya?"
Glenn's eyes widened in shock and anger, "Indeed, I might now be counted as a worthless empty shell, but this empty shell is still worth something. If Freya needs it, I will sell whatever is left of it immediately."
Murray was slightly surprised at Glenn's reply. He had not expected Glenn to be this loyal. Furthermore, Glenn did not look like a suitor who was courting Freya. How could he be this unrelenting?
Freya smiled and waved her hand in rejection, "Glenn, there's no need. Abigail had already helped me solve the problem through other avenues."
Murray asked Freya in a whisper, "How much are you still short of?"
"8 million dollars."
Charlotte looked at both Murray and Glenn and sneered, "Do either of you have that amount?"
Glenn shut his mouth immediately. 8 million dollars... It would not have been a problem back when the Lewis family was doing well and was at their peak, but now he would struggling to even raise 750,000 dollars.
Regarding the lending of money from his other rich second-generation friends, 300,000 to 450,000 dollars should not be a problem, but 8 million dollars? They will most probably blacklist him.
Murray furrowed his brows slightly and frowned. He had not expected Freya to be short of such a huge amount of money.
He found a reason to excuse himself and went to the corridor outside the hall. Taking out the Suzaku Card, he dialed the customer service number at the back... "You usually act so cool and arrogant but fail at the most essential moments. You people are really not men and have no backbone."
Seeing Glenn stay silent and Murray finding an excuse by leaving to make a phone call, Abigail's eyes were full of contempt, "It's alright, I knew neither of you could be counted on in the first place."
She proclaimed arrogantly, "I have arranged for you to meet with Hamiltion Cooper, and he will be coming over to meet with Freya later."
Glenn replied in shock, "Hamiltion Cooper?
Do you mean Hamiltion Cooper of the Cooper Group?"
"I guess you do have some knowledge and are not as stupid as I thought," Abigail replied.
"Yes, precisely that Hamiltion. He has more than a dozen engineering teams, dozens of projects, and a net worth of over 300 million dollars."
Abigail said indifferently: "I finally succeeded in pulling the strings. Please be smarter later and greet them properly. This will be a favor to Ruoxue."
"Freya, Hamiltion is a bastard, it's best if you do not borrow money from him."
Glenn frowned slightly, "I have a friend who lent him 150,000 dollars. In the end, he sold both his house and car to pay back Hamiltion, who charged him over 1,500,000 dollars in total as interest. Hamiltion even slept with his newlywed wife!"
"Shut up!"
Abigail hollered angrily at Glenn, "Damn fatty, don't you dare slander Mr. Cooper!"
"Freya, you really can't borrow money from this person..." Glenn begged, "I'm here to help you find a way. 8 million dollars is indeed too big of a figure for me to handle, but I should still be able to raise 3 million dollars by hook or by crook," Glenn continued.
"I'll get my other friends to chip in and loan me their money, 3 million dollars should not be a problem!"
Glenn looked serious: "Yes, I will get at least 3 million dollars for you. Don't borrow any money from Hamiltion."
Freya waved her hands hurriedly in rejection, "No need Glenn, I can't possibly accept your money."
"We are friends," Glenn replied.
Glenn then straightened his body in confidence, "If you hadn't loaned me money to fight the lawsuit back when we were younger, I would still be rotting in prison picking up soap."
Back when Glenn's family went bankrupt, his stepmother tried to seize the last of the family properties and attempted to transfer her personal debts to under Glenn's name instead, resulting in Glenn almost becoming jailed.
At that critical moment, Freya was the one who lent him a sum of money to fight the lawsuit. She even introduced several good lawyers, allowing Glenn to get away without carrying any debts and even keep some of his family's wealth.
Hence, Glenn was eternally grateful to Freya.
"Damn fatty, are you done yet?"
Abigail continued shouting impatiently, "That little bit of money that you can raise is not enough to turn the tides, why don't you save it and use it to help yourself lose some weight instead?"
Glenn replied stubbornly, "Regardless, Freya must not borrow any money from Hamiltion..."
"Bang!"
Before he could finish his sentence, the door of the private room, which was previously tightly locked, was suddenly kicked open from the outside.
