Early the next morning, when Alexander Xu opened his eyes, the other three people were still sleeping soundly in the guest room. He didn't bother to wake them up, so he walked out and drove away.
People like them who can have a fixed private room in the Mingshi Club have tens of millions on their books at any time, so they don't have to worry about paying the bills.
Alexander Xu first visited the building Joshua Xiao mentioned. Indeed, it wasn't far from his home, situated midway between the Prosperous World Group and the Xu family residence, just off a side road. He often passed by this area but never realized the unfinished building belonged to Joshua. The five-story building was well-constructed, with the exterior work completed. Though it appeared somewhat worn due to lack of maintenance, a simple cleanup and renovation would suffice.
Entering the building, he found it in disarray, with unused construction materials scattered everywhere and exposed wires showing signs of aging. Despite this, the building's structure was sound – a building by Joshua Xiao wouldn't be a shoddy job.
Each of the building's five floors spanned over five thousand square meters, ready for use with minor refurbishments. Joshua had indeed invested heavily in pursuing that small-time actress.
In the meantime, Alexander called his mother to let her know he hadn't come home the night before, so she wouldn't worry.
As he hung up the phone, he paused, realizing how naturally he had called Grace Fang. It felt like a habitual act. He discovered that he seemed to have blended into this family, enjoying the atmosphere and feeling a strange sense of attachment.
Was this the feeling of home?
After inspecting the building, he drove straight to Prosperous World. Unsure about starting a company, he planned to consult with William Xu and Hannah Lin for advice.
Upon entering Prosperous World, he was met with the usual disdainful looks but ignored them and headed straight to the 49th floor.
Pushing open the door to the president's office, William Xu was busy with paperwork. Glancing up at Alexander, who entered reeking of alcohol, he frowned slightly, "Drinking again? Try to keep away from those people. You've just started to change, don't revert to your old ways!"
Alexander smiled lightly, "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing!"
"Hmm, good. Go take a shower and change your clothes in my room," William Xu advised, not dwelling on the topic.
Nodding, Alexander entered the adjoining suite in the president's office to shower.
Midway through, he realized he hadn't brought a change of clothes and called out, "Dad, do you have any spare clothes here?"
William Xu glanced up, "There are a few suits in the wardrobe on the left in the bedroom. Undergarments are there too. I've never worn them, you can choose one."
"Alright, thanks!" Alexander continued his shower.
After showering and opening the wardrobe, he was taken aback.
The closet was filled with brand-new suits, not a single casual outfit. Neither the former Alexander nor the current one liked wearing suits, always preferring casual attire.
"Dad, don't you have any other clothes? Why only suits?" Alexander asked, frowning at the contents of the wardrobe.
William Xu looked at him amusedly and said with a smile, "I only have suits here. Did you expect me, an old man, to go to work dressed like you?"
Given William Xu's status, he wore suits most of the time. It was unthinkable for him to wear casual clothes for business meetings.
Alexander shrugged; suits were better than his alcohol-stained clothes.
When he reappeared in front of William Xu dressed in one of the suits, his father was momentarily startled. The suit fit him well, and Alexander actually looked quite dashing in it. William Xu couldn't help but admit his son looked much more presentable.
"Not bad, it fits well! Much more pleasing to the eye!" William Xu leaned back in his chair, nodding in approval with a smile.
"A bit uncomfortable..." Alexander fidgeted, feeling slightly uneasy. He planned to change as soon as he got home.
Seeing his discomfort, William Xu chuckled, "Sit down. I heard you subdued all our family's bodyguards. When did you become so capable? Your mother told me you've been practicing some martial arts?"
"Yeah, I'm a genius, just like Chong Linghu!" Alexander joked.
His story might fool his drama-loving mother, but William Xu was harder to deceive. Nonetheless, he didn't press further, happy as long as his son was improving.
"Chong Linghu? As long as you don't turn out like Pingzhi Lin, your mother and I will be grateful," William Xu rolled his eyes, then asked, "I heard you're planning to start a security company. Have you figured out how?"
"I came to ask you. I don't really understand these things, hoping to learn from you," Alexander said with a modest smile.
"You don't understand and still want to start a company? Just to amuse your old man? I have a lot of work, go to Hannah first. She'll teach you some basics. I'll give you some advice when we get home," William Xu spoke with slight reproach but was inwardly delighted. As long as his son was willing to learn, with his intelligence, these were minor matters.
The scoundrel is finally doing something worthwhile! William Xu felt a sense of relief in his heart.
"Okay," Alexander nodded, "Keep your bodyguards for now. Once I'm done setting up the company, I'll find some reliable ones for you."
William Xu's bodyguards were like the ones at the Xu family – good for show but not much else. Considering his father's safety and the Xu family's stature, Alexander decided to train a few dependable people for him.
"That's fine by me," William Xu smiled.
Since his son is skilled in martial arts, he can entrust his own safety to him. After all, his son would never harm him.
"Alright, I'll leave you to your work. I'm off to see Hannah."
"Who was that man who just left the president's office? He looks familiar. So handsome!" A female secretary about to enter William Xu's office caught sight of Alexander leaving and couldn't help but daydream.
"Zoey, why are you still standing there? Hurry up and deliver the documents to the president!" Another glamorous secretary nudged her.
"Ah, right, Sister Mia, sorry, I'm on it!" Zoey quickly regained her composure and knocked on the president's door.
After leaving William Xu's office, Alexander headed straight to Hannah Lin's office.
This used to be his office, and he wondered how much it had changed. Surely it wasn't just a desk and a computer anymore.
"Knock, knock..."
Alexander knocked, not daring to enter as casually as he did his father's office. It would be awkward if Hannah was changing.
"Come in!" Hannah's voice came through the intercom.
Alexander pushed the door open.
As he entered, the two women in the office were taken aback. They had never seen Alexander dressed in formal attire. The well-tailored suit unexpectedly gave him a carefree and otherworldly charm, while his signature mischievous smile added to his allure. This sudden change in style captivated the women in the office.
Men and women, in a sense, are all about appearances. Men like beautiful women with good figures and women are drawn to handsome, charismatic men. Those who possess these traits often attract the opposite sex, as Alexander did at that moment.
Alexander paused, surprised to see Chloe Song there. Was this the so-called "enemies often cross each other's paths"?
Noticing Alexander's gaze, Chloe quickly turned her head away, pretending not to see him. She composed herself and continued reporting to Hannah, "I think it's time to change the brand ambassador for our clothing line. Chen Lun's recent conduct has affected his popularity, making him unsuitable to represent our 'Green Sprout' series."
"Alexander, take a seat. I need to discuss something with Chloe," Hannah said, then turned to Chloe, "Who do you think is a better choice?"
"I have two candidates in mind, Victoria Qin and Sofia Li. Both fit our brand's image and temperament, but I personally lean towards Sofia Li," Chloe replied, her usual efficiency returning as she spoke of work.
"Your reasons?" Hannah tapped the desk thoughtfully.
Chloe analyzed, "Sofia Li has been doing well these past years, starring in several hit movies and frequently appearing at international film festivals, indicating potential for global reach. In comparison, Victoria Qin, though revered as 'Goddess Luo' domestically, is relatively unknown internationally and, being younger, has limited exposure."
Her reasoning was sound, but Hannah had her own considerations, "Sofia Li's main issue is her age. She's over thirty, a significant factor for actresses. Victoria Qin, on the other hand, is young and full of vitality at twenty-one, with unlimited potential for growth."
