Upon hearing these words, Hannah felt the world spinning around her. If not for Alexander's timely support, she would have collapsed to the ground. Beside her, one of the policemen had already fainted before she did.
"Captain He..." Several policemen hurriedly helped the fainted Jeremy He to a chair, while others tried to revive him by pinching his philtrum.
Alexander remembered this policeman. He was the deputy captain of the Tianhai City Criminal Police, named Jeremy He. Alexander recalled that Jeremy had often helped him out of various troublesome situations. Jeremy was not only Andrew Yang's classmate and deputy but also his best friend. The two had graduated from the police academy together and joined the Tianhai City Bureau. Three years ago, during a mission, Jeremy had even taken a bullet for Andrew, epitomizing their deep bond.
When Jeremy regained consciousness, he let out a heart-wrenching cry for Andrew and rushed towards Andrew's body, which was being wheeled out. Alexander, supporting Hannah, also went to see Andrew for the last time, surrounded by a group of people silently mourning.
While everyone was grieving Andrew's death, a shrill scream echoed, "Brother, someone hit me just now, you have to avenge me!"
At this voice, Alexander frowned slightly. The young nurse he had slapped earlier had arrived.
The nurse hadn't noticed Alexander at first and went straight to Jeremy, who was silently weeping. However, upon noticing Alexander, she immediately pointed at him, crying to Jeremy, "Brother, it was him! Arrest him!"
Jeremy, still visibly in pain, glanced at Alexander and then at the young nurse. Suddenly, he slapped her hard across the face in front of everyone, roaring, "Get out!"
The nurse was stunned by Jeremy's slap, tears streaming down her face in disbelief. It took her a minute to regain her senses. Accustomed to her brother's indulgence, she was shocked by his public reprimand and hysterically cried, "You hit me! You actually hit me…"
Ever since she was a child, her brother had pampered her and never said a harsh word to her. Today, he slapped her in public. The little nurse blamed Alexander for all this and looked at Alexander's face. There was a look of resentment in his eyes.
"Get out!" Jeremy roared again. The pain of losing his comrade was already unbearable, and he met this unruly and willful sister again. At this moment, this steely man finally broke out!
"Good! I'm out! You will regret this!"
Watching the little nurse cover her face as she left, Alexander sighed deeply in his heart. Yet another girl spoiled by indulgence! Hadn't the former Alexander been spoiled in the same way?
The body of Andrew Yang was wheeled by the nurse towards the morgue. Jeremy and Hannah were each shedding tears, silently following behind. They still couldn't believe the reality before their eyes. A person, who was alive and well during the day, had suddenly passed away. Fate seemed so unjust.
"Young Master Xu, don't take what Amelia He said to heart," the young police officer who had brought him for the statement approached, secretly wiping away a tear. He managed a strained smile and said to Alexander, "She is the biological sister of Captain He. Their parents passed away early, and she's the only sister he has, spoiled by him..."
Alexander Xu nodded. He had never intended to argue with a little nurse. Curiously, he asked the young officer, "So, both of Captain He's parents are gone?"
The junior policeman replied with sadness, "Yeah. Captain He's parents died in a robbery case when he was about to take the college entrance exam, prompting him to join the police academy. Andrew helped him financially in the academy, and they became best friends. Unfortunately, Captain Yang..."
Talking about Andrew's death, the policeman wiped away tears.
“Men don't shed tears easily, but when they do, it's a sign of true grief," Alexander thought, respecting the policeman's emotions. He knew Andrew's high reputation in the police force for his strict discipline and kindness.
Such a respected police officer, dead because of the Li family's conspiracy. This thought enraged Alexander, and he worried for Hannah and her daughter, now bereaved.
"By the way, what's your name?" Alexander asked before leaving.
"Just call me Wayne," the junior policeman replied.
After chatting briefly with Wayne, Alexander went to the morgue but didn't find Hannah or Jeremy. Worried about Hannah's well-being, he went looking for them and found them in a small, inconspicuous pavilion surrounded by greenery.
In an inconspicuous little pavilion, dwarfed by the vastness of the hospital and surrounded by greenery, it was easy to overlook its existence. As Alexander approached, Jeremy was squatting on the ground, silently smoking, a chaotic scattering of over a dozen cigarette butts by his feet.
Seeing Alexander approach, Hannah, with her eyes red and swollen from crying, walked over and pulled Jeremy up, her voice choked with emotion, "Jeremy, we had no idea that girl was your sister, we are truly sorry. Alexander and I will go and apologize to her later…"
Jeremy tossed his half-smoked cigarette to the ground, but then took out another from his pocket and put it in his mouth. Trembling, he tried to light it with his lighter but failed after several attempts. Hannah Lin took the lighter from his hand and lit the cigarette for him, her voice filled with concern, "Try to smoke less…"
Grateful, Jeremy looked at Hannah with tearful eyes and said, "Why apologize? I know my sister. I've spoiled her over the years. Please don't take her actions to heart. She's young and doesn't understand things well!"
He knew all too well what his sister was like and was also aware of the Xu family's influence. If Alexander Xu were to blame his sister for this incident, she would have no good days ahead. Despite her faults, she was still his sister, whom he had raised since childhood. In his heart, she was both a sister and a daughter to him.
"Don't worry, I won't make trouble for her," Alexander Xu said from the side. After all, he was someone of standing; how could he possibly hold a grudge against such an ignorant young girl?
"Then I thank you on behalf of Amelia," Jeremy tried to muster a smile but his face seemed frozen, unable to express his emotions.
Alexander walked up to pat his shoulder in comfort, not quite knowing how to console him verbally. He only felt a deep sense of empathy for the brotherly bond between Jeremy and Andrew.
Hannah wiped her tears again and sobbed to Jeremy, "Jeremy, I think there's something suspicious about Andrew's car accident. When you go back, investigate it properly. It most likely has something to do with the Li family!"
She was already convinced in her heart that Andrew's death was a plot by the Li family, but she knew that mere speculation was not enough; evidence was needed to accuse someone.
"I know!" Jeremy lifted his head, his face showing a mix of grief and anger, and said resentfully, "The Li family is taking revenge on Andrew. If he hadn't arrested Sofia Li, none of this would have happened. Bowen Group suffered greatly because of that scandal and wouldn't let it go easily. I had warned Andrew to be cautious of the Li family's retaliation, but he just wouldn't listen…"
Hannah nodded gently, crying softly, "As long as you understand, then go back first. I'll take care of his affairs."
"Let me handle it…" Jeremy said, dropping the cigarette, his voice filled with sorrow, "The Li family might be targeting you and Evelyn now. It's not safe for you to show up. Let me handle the arrangements, so the brothers can send Andrew off on his last journey."
After a moment's thought, Hannah nodded gently, "Then I'll leave it to you. Don't be too hard on yourself, take care."
Alexander admired Hannah even more. Despite her own grief, she was still comforting Jeremy. Such a good woman, yet so young and already a widow. If only she wasn't his cousin...
At that thought, Alexander suddenly felt like slapping himself! This was his cousin, how could he harbor such improper thoughts? It must be because he had been repressing himself for too long, or perhaps it was the influence of that prodigal soul! He found a suitable excuse for himself, but couldn't help recalling the provocative scene he had seen in Hannah's room.
"Slap!"
Alexander finally slapped himself. Scolding himself internally, Alexander, you can't be so shameless! Such thoughts are disgraceful! After all, he was the strongest Azure Dragon among the "Law Enforcers". How could he have sunk so low? It seemed he had been repressing himself for far too long. Maybe it was time to find a woman.
"Alexander, what are you doing?" Hannah looked at him, puzzled by his sudden action.
Only then did Alexander realize that both Hannah and Jeremy were looking at him in surprise. He hastily explained, "I'm blaming myself for not protecting my brother-in-law well enough…"
"Don't blame yourself, this was Andrew's destined tribulation..." Hannah stepped forward, gently rubbing his cheek where he had slapped himself.
Jeremy clenched his fists tightly, trying to suppress the anger in his heart, and said, "Alexander, don't blame yourself either. Rest assured, the brothers will definitely avenge Andrew!"
As he spoke, his eyes revealed an unprecedented determination.
"I will avenge him too," Alexander silently vowed in his heart.
