Jonathan Chu?
Hearing this name, Serena was momentarily taken aback.
Cloud-Flipping Rain Tower, while outwardly a business establishment, was actually a hub for gathering intelligence. No information in Skyward State could escape its reach.
"Jonathan Chu... I've been hearing his name a lot lately," Serena remarked.
"Yes, he's from the countryside but has caused quite a stir for my family recently," Greg replied, frustration evident in his voice.
Serena silently chuckled to herself. She had just received word that Jonathan had stormed into the Cooper family and left Joshua severely injured.
Who would have expected someone from such humble beginnings to deal such a blow to the mighty Cooper family?
"What brings you to Cloud-Flipping Rain Tower today?" Serena asked calmly. "You know I'm just a businesswoman. I may not be much help."
Greg smiled, dismissing her modesty. "Who in Skyward State would dare underestimate Cloud-Flipping Rain Tower? I'm here because I need your help to invite a few warriors."
A glimmer of interest flashed in Serena's eyes. "Warriors?"
"Yes, Jonathan is no ordinary man. He defeated Yannis with ease," Greg explained.
"Yannis? A warrior with great internal strength? It seems this Jonathan is indeed extraordinary," Serena said, now intrigued.
Greg continued, "That's why I've come to you. If you can help me find some capable warriors, the Cooper family will be very generous in its reward to Cloud-Flipping Rain Tower."
Serena didn't immediately agree but instead fell into deep thought, and the room fell into silence.
Avery, standing nearby, watched anxiously. She was determined to avenge her brother Joshua and would do anything to make that happen.
After a long pause, Serena finally spoke. "I can contact a few warriors for you. Whether they agree to help will be up to you."
Greg was overjoyed and quickly said, "Thank you so much, Serena!"
He knew that any warriors Serena recommended would be far superior to himself, and their assistance would be invaluable.
After a brief conversation, Greg and Avery hurried away, leaving Serena to her thoughts.
"Someone, come here," Serena called out.
A beautiful woman entered the room, bowing slightly. "Boss, what are your orders?"
"Look into Jonathan Chu for me. I want to know everything about him," Serena commanded.
"Yes, boss," the woman replied but hesitated before leaving.
Serena raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
"Miss Leigh is waiting for you in your office," the woman said.
Serena nodded, a smile appearing on her face. "Ah, Grace is here. I'll go to her now."
In the office, Grace sat in Serena's chair, casually watching short videos on her phone. Her feet were propped up on the desk, sneakers and all, as she lounged comfortably.
Serena walked in and couldn't help but smile. "Grace, you're supposed to be a lady now. Why are you acting so carelessly? Put your feet down!"
Grace grinned, standing up and stretching. "There's no one here, what's the harm?"
Then, with a laugh, she threw herself into Serena's arms. "Come on, give me a hug! I missed you so much!"
Serena hugged her back, chuckling. "What's the matter? Are things too strict at home, and you came here to relax?"
Grace sighed dramatically. "I finally managed to sneak out! You have no idea how annoying my grandfather has been lately, trying to set me up with some liar."
Serena scolded her gently, "Don't talk like that. Your grandfather has great judgment. He wouldn't introduce a liar."
Grace waved her hand dismissively. "He's a liar, believe me. Anyway, let's not talk about him. Serena, when can I start working here at Cloud-Flipping Rain Tower?"
Serena rolled her eyes. "You're the precious daughter of the Lina Family, but you insist on working for me? Unless your grandfather agrees, there's no way."
Grace groaned. "Grandpa would never agree to that. Serena, you're the best! If you don't say yes, I'll come here every day to bother you!"
Serena, knowing how persistent Grace could be, sighed in defeat. "Alright, alright. How about this: I'll give you the status of a reserve employee. If your grandfather agrees, I'll make it official."
"Really? That's amazing! I knew you were the best!" Grace exclaimed, snuggling back into Serena's arms.
Serena laughed but gently pushed her off. "Alright, I've agreed. Now get up."
"No! It's so comfy here!" Grace protested playfully. "Whoever marries you will be so lucky."
Serena's smile faltered for a brief moment, and she said quietly, "I'm afraid I won't be around to see that day."
Grace stiffened, sitting up straight. "Serena, don't say that. You will be cured, I promise."
Serena forced a smile. "This is just my fate."
Grace's eyes lit up with determination. "No! Don't think like that. There's going to be a traditional medicine conference in two days. I'll take you there. Who knows? Maybe someone there can help."
Serena wanted to refuse but saw the hope in Grace's eyes. She relented. "Alright, I'll go with you."
Though Serena didn't have much faith in the conference, as even the best doctors in the imperial capital couldn't cure her, she agreed for Grace's sake. Deep down, a tiny glimmer of hope flickered.
What if… someone really could cure her?
...
Two days later, in the morning.
Jonathan had been staying at Isabella's place these past few days. He was too lazy to practice due to the thin True Energy in the area, so he slept in.
"Isabella, why are you up so early? It's only eight o'clock," Jonathan mumbled as he slowly got up.
Isabella smiled softly. "The traditional medicine conference starts at ten, and we're quite far from the venue. It'll take over an hour to get there."
Jonathan groaned. "If I'd known, I wouldn't have agreed to go."
Isabella, serving porridge, turned and gave him a sharp look. "What did you say?"
"Nothing, nothing! I want two eggs!" Jonathan quickly replied, changing the subject.
At that moment, his phone rang. It was Samuel calling.
"Master, the traditional medicine conference is today. May I use the Deep Coolness technique there?" Samuel asked eagerly as soon as the call connected.
Jonathan was taken aback. "Have you mastered it?"
"I've grasped about 30%, but I'm confident I can use it to treat illnesses," Samuel said confidently.
"Then go ahead. Medical skills are meant to heal people," Jonathan said casually.
"Thank you, Master! Will you be attending the conference? If so, I can come pick you up," Samuel offered.
Jonathan hesitated for a moment before saying, "I'll be there too."
Samuel was shocked. "What? You're attending as well?"
