The car stopped at the door. Gina had no intention of entering, but Irene happened to see her, "Oh, it's Gina! Come in quickly, Ashburn you are so impolite, haven't told me that you will come in advance! I miss you so much, honey!"
It could be seen that Irene was very happy. Since their marriage, the number of times Gina had visited could be counted on one hand.
Gina didn't want to dampen the elders' interest, so she had no choice but to get out of the car.
Irene held her hand and smiled from ear to ear. "You haven't been here for a few days, right?"
"Yes, I was quite busy at work."
"Oh, it's my fault that Ashburn hasn't made progress and made you work so hard as a woman." Irene pulled her to sit down and said to Ashburn, "I bought some fruits and put them in the kitchen. Ashburn! Wash some and I think Gina needs some refection."
Gina said hurriedly, "No, no, no, I'll sit down for a while, and then I have to leave."
But Ashburn still entered the kitchen.
"You're here to pick up Ashburn, right? I've long advised him to go back. But I've just been discharged from the hospital. He's worried and has to stay and take care of me. Don't blame him!"
"I never asked, what disease did you... have?" The last time she saw her in the hospital, Gina didn't take it seriously. Ashburn said it was okay, and she really thought so, but now she listened to Irene's words that she still needed aftercare from Ashburn after being discharged from the hospital. The condition was not that simple.
Irene smiled lightly, "Hey, it wasn't a serious illness, liver cancer."
"Liver... liver cancer?" Gina was stunned for a long time. Wasn't this a serious illness?
Gina got up and went to the kitchen, pulling Ashburn, who was washing fruits, "Come out with me."
Ashburn was confused and followed her outside the door.
"Ashburn, what's wrong with you?" Gina was furious. "Your mother has liver cancer, why didn't you tell me?"
"You didn't even ask."
"You..." Gina was speechless for a moment, and at the same time, she felt guilty inside.
It was not a minor illness at all, her mother-in-law had liver cancer, and she, the daughter-in-law, didn't even know about it!
If this spread out, how would others despise her?
"Now... how is the situation?"
"It's cured."
Gina breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Tell me if you need anything."
The most difficult time had passed, and Ashburn didn't need anything now, so he smiled and said, "Thank you, but... no need."
Gina's heart sank suddenly, to someplace she couldn't feel. Now her mood was very complicated, and she didn't know how to face Ashburn.
Even though she had been unwilling to be in this marriage from the beginning, she knew that Ashburn had sacrificed and endured a lot for her and their family.
And she.
It seemed like she hadn't done anything for him.
She said nothing more and returned to the car silently, as if her heart was blocked by something.
Then the shadow of the car slowly disappeared from Ashburn's vision.
…
The next day, there were some more nutritional supplements at home.
On the third day, there were some more health products at home.
They were all sent by Gina. They were high-end goods, some of which were imported. The total cost was about 15,000 dollars.
But Ashburn knew that apart from their psychological effects, most of these nutritional and health products had no significant effect on the human body.
On the fourth day, Gina came in person.
"Gina is here!" Irene smiled and stepped forward quickly. "Honey, you bought so many things, how can I eat them all!"
"Anything you want to eat, just tell me, and I will buy it for you!"
"You don't have to spend so much money." Irene pulled her affectionately. "Will you stay here for dinner tonight?"
"Oh! Thanks, but I can't, I'm here to see Ashburn. My cousin just gave birth to a child, and the family is going to celebrate. Ashburn and I have to show up there."
"Oh, congratulations, this is a happy event!" Irene didn't know about the Willow family's overt or covert struggles, so having a baby in the family was naturally a great joy and she smiled widely.
Then she glanced at Gina's belly again, somehow without any words.
Gina knew what she wanted to say, and her ears suddenly felt hot. When she saw Ashburn coming out of the back room, she hurriedly greeted him.
"Grandma is hosting a banquet at Willow Family Courtyard today. All our families must go there, otherwise, the relatives will gossip."
"So soon?"
"You'd better change into suitable clothes."
"I don't have any formal clothes at home, this one is okay."
The combination of T-shirt and jeans looked like he had just come back from a street stall. Gina was a little helpless, but the joy of having a baby was not a happy event for their family, so she did not ask Ashburn for anything strictly.
After getting in the car, Ashburn called Mandy.
Ashburn asked anxiously, "Miss Summer, have the results come out?"
"It came out, just as you guessed."
Ashburn relived and he asked, "Are you in the hospital now? I'll go over and get the report now."
"I've already gotten off work. I'm in the car, preparing to send you the report."
"If it's convenient for you, send the report to me to Willow Family Courtyard, No. 122, ZS District."
"Well, I'm available when I get off work."
After hanging up the phone, Gina glanced at Ashburn and wanted to ask him who he was calling, but she swallowed the words before she spoke.
She didn't want to interfere too much in his personal affairs, otherwise, it would appear that she cared about him too much, which was not her usual style.
The Willow Family Courtyard.
This was an old-fashioned house, which was rare in Narada. If it were to be sold, it would have cost at least 7 million dollars. It had been the living place of Mrs. Willow.
There had been dozens of cars parked in the parking shed at the door, including luxury cars, all priced at more than one million.
Tim Irvin, the housekeeper of the courtyard, had greeted the guests with a smile on his face. However, when he saw Ashburn and Gina, he dropped his smile as if he hadn't seen them.
Ashburn had been accustomed to this attitude. Tim had always been serving Mrs. Willow, and his attitude had largely represented Mrs. Willow's attitude.
Walking into the door, there had already been forty or fifty people in the main room. Hyman and Hebe had come a step earlier and had sat silently. This kind of occasion had been a bit depressing for them.
The relatives who had come now had all been focused on Trocy's family, and few had come to talk.
Ashburn looked around and suddenly discovered that Sidney had also been present.
This had further confirmed another suspicion in his mind.
"Ma and Dad are over there." Gina had pulled Ashburn and had led him over.
"Hey, isn't this the good-for-nothing loser?" Lucas walked over with a smile. When he saw Ashburn, he remembered that his hair had been pulled out in the hospital before, which made him full of anger.
Today was his home court, and he couldn't get angry first, otherwise, it would have been too rude in front of so many people.
"It's better to be a good-for-nothing loser than to be a cuckold, right?" Ashburn had replied in a hurry.
With one sentence, Lucas immediately forgot his demeanour and became furious, "Fuck, I will kill you!"
Tim happened to come in from the door and hurriedly hugged Lucas, "Young Master, calm down, today is your big day, don't let others see your bad form."
Ashburn's purpose in saying this hadn't only been to anger Lucas, but more importantly, to test Sidney's reaction.
Sure enough, Sidney cast a look of surprise and panic at him.
