Chapter 7 I'll Give You One Year

Trying his best to rose to his feet, Yuanze Li let out a roar of anger and dashed to Luke.

“Watch out!” Shouted Jennifer.

“Pathetic.” Sneered Luke as he kicked Yuanze away, after which he ran to Yuanze side and stomped on he before he got to rise again:”How dare you flirt with my wife when I’m around!”

“Stop, stop it please! I’m sorry, man! You’re killing me!” Screamed Yuanze out of pain. Though Jennifer was completely shocked by such violence, she couldn’t deny that it felt quite nice. She smiled as tenderness gleamed in her eyes when she looked to Josh.

“That’s enough, Luke, you may really kill him.” Uttered Jennifer as she noticed that Yuanze’s scream seemed to grow weaker.

“Fine, then. You heard her, bastard. Don’t you ever do this again, you know what I would do!” Said Luke as he drew his punches back, eyes still blazed with wrath.

“I won’t, I promise I won’t!” Uttered Yuanyang as he barely restored his footing and escaped. He ran away with a limp and left a glance of anger at Luke as he turned around.

That glance rang a bell in Jennifer’s mind, she said to Luke:”Yuanze’s father is the chairman of Guanghua Trade Group, a powerful man in this city. He will get back at you sooner or later.”

“So?” Said Luke as he clenched his hand into fist,”He’ll know what it feels like to be punched in the face if he dares do so.”

Jennifer shook her head. She grew up in this city therefore she knew that the Li family is way more powerful than her family, not to mention that Luke is just a young guy came out of nowhere. She said to Luke as the tenderness in her eyes faded away:”Take care of yourself then, just be careful.”

“Are you concerned about me, honey?” Smiled Luke as his anger immediately dispersed, which quite confused Jennifer.

“Don’t call me like that! Sit down now, I need to tell you something.”

Luke never liked the tone of demanding, but he sat down in front of Jennifer after all and said:”I’m all ears.”

After a short while of contemplation, Jennifer frowned and said to Luke:”It true we have this appointment of marriage, but...you’re nobody and I’m a president of a company, I can just turn my back on this appointment if I’d like to, but...”

“But?” Uttered Luke, showing no expressions at all.

“I still need to show some respect to this appointment made by families. I’ll give you a year to make some achievements and make me fall in love with you. And if you fail, we’re just be strangers. And I’ll cover all your living cost within this year, you can ask me for money whenever you need it, but none will know that you’re my husband.”

“Wait, so it’s like I’ll be a live-in husband, right? Do you think I come to beg you to marry me? It was your grandparent that beg my master to make that appointment, okay? It’s not that I have to marry you!” Said Luke, looking calm.”I’ll give you one year too, and if you can’t live up to my expectation, we’re done.”

“Excuse me?” Shouted Jennifer out of both anger and embarrassment, never would her see it coming that not only did Luke turn her offer down but also made a demand which sounded unreasonable to her.

But Luke seemed indifferent:”I’m a man of my word.”

Then he turned around and left.

“Damn! Fine, let’s see what can you achieve within one year!” Shouted Jennifer, but Luke ignored it. Tiffany was at the door at that moment, Luke just left a awkward smile to her and left. Tiffany shook her head, she had no idea how did Luke become Jennifer’s fiance, for these two people seemed to have nothing in common.

“Now that you’re president Su’s fiance, all the other men of upper class will surely hunt you down, Luke. Can you survive it?” Said Tiffany as she let out a sigh.
