chapter 9 cold reality

by Arthur 14:33,Sep 27,2023
"Harper Liu, did you maybe contact the wrong person?" Olivia Lin couldn't accept this outcome and immediately questioned.
"Manager Lin, I didn't contact the wrong person. If you don't believe me, take a look at the call logs. I recorded everything they said. Listen!" Harper Liu, feeling wronged, took out her phone and opened the call logs and audio files.
Olivia Lin couldn't believe it. She thought Harper Liu must have made a mistake. With her personal charm, how could they do such a thing?
But after listening to all the recordings.
The cold reality told her that Harper Liu wasn't lying. She had contacted everyone she could, and without exception, they all bluntly cut off all cooperation with her. Some even severed ties on the day she divorced Alan Xu, she just didn't know.
The infinitely bright dreams of the future shattered in an instant!
Just moments ago, brimming with confidence, Olivia Lin slumped in her chair, her expression blank, that sense of powerless despair surging up once again.
After a while, she finally regained her composure. She didn't understand, what had happened?
It was one thing for Bert Shen to ignore her, but why did all her business partners abandon her?
She wanted to know the reason, so she desperately called all her partners. However, most of them hung up as soon as they heard her voice, as if they had encountered a plague.
Only a small company agreed to meet with her tonight after her persistent pleas. However, judging by their tone, they were just trying to appease her, and there was no guarantee they would agree after dinner.
After hanging up the phone, Olivia Lin pushed herself to stay alert. She had to find a way, she must!
But reality made it impossible for her to gather her thoughts. In a panic, she could only keep scrolling through her social media, hoping to find someone who could help her.
Turning back and forth, she came across something she didn't want to see.
She saw that Luna Su had posted on her social media, announcing that she had replaced Eric Chu as the general manager of Jiutai Group!
Luna Su and Olivia Lin were close friends on the surface, having played together since childhood. However, in every aspect, whether it was looks, figure, or academic achievements, Luna Su outshone Olivia Lin.
After graduation, Luna Su became the team leader at Jiutai Group, while because Olivia Lin was just a peripheral member of the Lin family and a woman, she could only be a small employee at a subsidiary of the Lin Group.
Olivia Lin had always felt unjust, eager to outperform Luna Su and prove to everyone that she was stronger.
It was this mind-set that made their relationship seem like close friends on the surface, but Olivia Lin couldn't stand seeing Luna Su get ahead.
Until a year ago, after she married Alan Xu, her career skyrocketed while Luna Su remained an ordinary team leader. This gave her not only a sense of satisfaction but also a feeling of suppressing Luna Su.
The gap between them grew larger, and Olivia Lin felt a sense of vindication among classmates and family elders.
In her moment of despair, Luna Su unexpectedly replaced Eric Chu and became the general manager of the publicly listed company, Jiutai Group!
A position of high authority and influence, completely beyond her reach. Knowing this, she felt even more distressed.
What on earth was happening in this world?
Why was it like this?
Olivia Lin couldn't help but cry, her sobs tearing at her heart.
It wasn't until a little after five in the afternoon that Emma Chen's call came through, and she stopped crying.
"Olivia, I just saw Luna Su's social media. She's now the general manager of Jiutai Group. How about we go talk to her now? She might help us!" Emma Chen's voice was excited, as if she had found a saviour.
"Mom, how can you ask me to go beg her? Don't you know about the situation between us? I can't possibly do that!" Olivia Lin's tone was extremely resolute, even angry. Didn't her mother understand her?
She had her own pride, and she wouldn't bow down to Luna Su just to gain her help. She refused to let Luna Su look down on her!
"Ah, what's wrong with asking her? You two are best friends. If she sees that we're in trouble, she'll definitely help us. Then we can sell our products, right?" Emma Chen pleaded earnestly.
"No, absolutely not! I'll figure this out on my own! Mom, you really don't understand me!"
Olivia Lin's tears welled up in frustration. After hanging up, she was filled with discontent towards Emma Chen.
At that moment, thoughts of Alan Xu suddenly crossed her mind.
Though he was a waste, at this moment, if he were here, he would never allow her to do this. No matter how useless he was, he always thought of her!
"What's the point of thinking about him? Even if that useless brat were here, what could he do?"
Olivia Lin shook her head. She had placed her hopes on the evening appointment. She really wanted to know what was going on. Perhaps with her abilities, she could unravel the problem.
Meanwhile, at Jiutai Group, Chairman's Office.
Just entering Jiutai Group, Alan Xu became its largest shareholder. Naturally, he had this office to himself. Wade Tang, very tactfully, moved his office next door.
The morning meeting lasted until five in the afternoon.
In Wade Tang and Luna Su's eyes, they thought Alan Xu was just a hidden rich kid. However, during the meeting, the reforms Alan Xu proposed were sharp and directly addressed the company's current problems, solving them all.
This left both of them no choice but to acknowledge Alan Xu. It seemed Alan Xu was far more than just a hidden rich kid.
Alan Xu, on the other hand, took this in stride. Trained rigorously from a young age, he might lack management experience, but his education had made him far surpass the average person in various aspects.
After the meeting, Alan Xu sat alone at his desk, gazing downstairs. He looked at his shabby electric bike, and a wave of emotion washed over him.
Thoughts of his past with Olivia Lin came to his mind, along with the image of Olivia Lin and Eric Chu together this morning. The pain in his heart surged uncontrollably.
"Forgetting someone is not as easy as it seems. When you stop, you still think..."
Alan Xu chuckled bitterly, lit a cigarette, and started smoking.
"Knock knock knock!"
As the end of the workday approached, a knock on the door interrupted Alan Xu's thoughts. He extinguished the cigarette, composed himself, and regained his composure.
"Come in!"
After the door was pushed open, Luna Su walked in, swaying her hips.
She was wearing a black professional suit, which perfectly outlined her figure. Thin black stockings wrapped around her long, slender legs, with calves taut and graceful lines.
There was a hint of shyness on her pretty face. Her fair skin had a touch of pink, adding a hint of allure.
Only then did Alan Xu realize that Luna Su was so beautiful, especially in that professional attire. It could almost make any man feel conquering.
But Alan Xu had no intention of thinking about this at the moment. He smiled slightly, "Luna Su, is there something you need?"
Luna Su seemed a bit embarrassed. She hesitated for a few seconds before walking up to Alan Xu, pursing her lips and saying, "Mr. Xu, I'd like to invite you to dinner tonight to thank you for promoting me. Would you be available?"
She was extremely grateful to Alan Xu. Although her family was well-off, she had always wanted to prove to her family that she could make it on her own. In the past, because of her good looks, high-ranking executives in the company targeted her and deliberately hindered her performance, preventing her from advancing.
Just when she was on the verge of being defeated by reality, Alan Xu appeared like a savior, giving her an opportunity to change her life!
As she spoke, Luna Su kept her head down and her back bent. The neckline revealed a generous amount of whiteness.
She really had something to offer.
Alan Xu glanced inadvertently and quickly averted his gaze.
He had no intention of refusing her request. He immediately nodded and said, "Of course, but you don't need to address me so formally. Just call me Alan Xu. We're good friends, after all!"
"No, I can't. You're the president of Jiutai Group now. Only this title is fitting for your current position!" Luna Su's head shook like a drumbeat.
Alan Xu smiled wryly but didn't insist. It was just a form of address, after all. She could call him whatever she felt comfortable with.
"So, where are we eating? I won't go if the food isn't good!" Alan Xu joked.
"Mr. Xu, rest assured. This time we're going to a restaurant near Xin Hai Plaza called Tiraan Western Restaurant. I promise it's delicious!" Alan Xu's agreement made Luna Su very happy. Her charming smile added to her charm.
Alan Xu wanted to do something to forget the pain. He didn't want to wait until six o'clock. Just as Luna Su finished speaking, the two of them left the office. The distance was a bit far, and it was inconvenient to ride an electric bike. Alan Xu sat in Luna Su's Audi A7, and they headed to the antique market.
On the other side, Olivia Lin also left her home, preparing for the appointment. It was a coincidence that the meeting place she arranged with the other party was also Tiraan Western Restaurant...
