After going out, Thorpe Chen felt troubled because he didn't have a single penny in his pocket.
In his previous life, he was at least the owner of a soon-to-be-listed company. Although he inherited the family business and wasn't hands-on with its management, he was still worth tens of millions.
When did he ever have to worry about daily necessities?
Now, let alone borrowing a hundred thousand at high interest, he couldn't even afford for groceries.
Borrow money? He checked his contacts, either they were friends who indulged in all sorts of vices, or they had already blacklisted him after borrowing several times.
The owner of this body had long squandered his reputation, leaving a mess behind for Thorpe Chen.
Just as he was at a loss, suddenly, a red car sped towards him. Screech! An intense brake sound echoed as Thorpe Chen rolled away.
"Damn... my luck couldn't get any worse." Thorpe Chen was on the verge of tears. Fortunately, he reacted quickly and wasn't hit.
The car stopped, and a beautiful girl got out, flustered, "I'm so sorry, really sorry. There's a sick person in my car and my grandfather's condition is critical."
"You shouldn't be driving that fast. Someone could get hurt," Thorpe Chen said, getting up with mixed feelings of amusement and frustration.
The girl didn't have time to deal with Thorpe Chen. She hurriedly made a call with a hint of crying, "Dad, I'm near the Tailin Road in Fengjiang District."
"Grandpa suddenly fell ill, and he's now unconscious. How much longer until Uncle Xu arrives?"
"I’m almost there. Hold on and take care of Grandpa."
As soon as she hung up, sirens blared. An ambulance, escorted by several police cars, rushed over, followed by a limited-edition Maybach. Clearly, this was a green corridor made available for VIPs.
The moment the Maybach parked, an elderly man, accompanied by a younger man, hurriedly stepped out.
The girl quickly greeted, "Uncle Xu, my grandpa has passed out."
"Bring him out." The old man motioned with his right hand, approaching the girl's car where an old man lay inside, pale and unconscious.
He had his eyes closed shut, lying unconscious on the ground.
Security and police cleared the area, cordoning it off to prevent outsiders from entering.
"Who's this getting such grand treatment?"
"That's Elder Lin in the car."
"Who's Elder Lin?"
"You don't know? He's the patriarch of one of Fengling City's four great families, a veteran of the Southern Border War."
Soon, Elder Lin was carried out and placed on a stretcher.
Uncle Xu checked Elder Lin's pulse, his expression grave, "Coldness has attacked his heart. We don't have time to get to the hospital. I need to administer acupuncture now."
He quickly unpacked a needle kit and began the procedure.
"It's the Lin family, after all. Even the famous 'Ghost Doctor', Sam Xu, has come to their aid."
"Who's Sam Xu?"
"You don't know? He's a renowned traditional Chinese medicine master in Sheng City, said to be able to snatch lives back from the Underworld. That's why he's called the 'Ghost Doctor'. He's very hard to book, even local leaders have to queue up to see him."
"It looks like he just rushed over from the airport. Only the powerful Lin family could get a green light all the way here."
"Dad, will Grandpa be okay?" The worried girl asked the man accompanying Sam Xu. The man was the current head of the Fengling Lin family, Adolf Lin.
"Jenna, don't worry. With Uncle Xu here, there's no illness he can't cure."
"That's good." Jenna Lin sighed in relief and turned to Thorpe Chen, "I'm really sorry. Are you okay? I'll accompany you to the hospital for a check-up later."
"It's fine, no need," Thorpe Chen shook his head.
"You were hit; how can you be okay?" Jenna Lin was concerned.
Thorpe Chen remained silent, watching Sam Xu intently.
In a short while, Sam Xu had inserted more than ten needles.
"The Nine Lineages Acupuncture?" Thorpe Chen observed closely.
His voice wasn't loud, but those nearby heard him. Sam Xu gave him a glance and continued.
Sam Xu's assistant asked, "You recognize my master's acupuncture technique?"
"It's from the Yellow Emperor’s Internal Classic, specifically from the Suwen's Ancient Heavenly Truths external chapter," Thorpe Chen replied, "I always thought it had been lost."
"My master is the inheritor of the Nine Lineages Acupuncture," the assistant declared proudly, "Once this technique is used, even the King of Hell has to take a detour."
"Unfortunately, the technique has both Heavenly and Earthly aspects. Judging by the method, only the Earthly aspect is known. It might not work," Thorpe Chen remarked with a hint of regret.
"What did you say? Do you know who my master is?" The assistant was furious.
"I'm just stating the facts, no offense intended," Thorpe Chen replied calmly.
"Young man, don't think that because you understand the Yellow Emperor’s Internal Classic, you can talk nonsense. With me here, there's no one I can't save," Sam Xu said, finishing his acupuncture, his tone admonishing.
"Uncle Xu is a renowned medical master. The Mayor of Fengling City has to wait in line to see him. Who do you think you are to criticize him?"
"Exactly, are you even weaned?" The bystanders showed disdain for Thorpe Chen.
"If you don't understand the Earthly aspect, it's one thing. But the technique is also flawed. The needle was half a millimetre too shallow. Soon, there will be a reversal in his circulation and the cold will attack his heart. If the patient survives half a day, consider me wrong."
Thorpe Chen shook his head. He was still worried about the small amount of money for the dishes and wasn't in the mood to deal with these trivial matters. He turned and left.
"What did you say?" Sam Xu's expression changed, but Thorpe Chen had already walked far away.
"Hey, aren't you going to the hospital to check?" Jenna Lin was taken aback and chased after him.
"Master Xu, thank you." By this time, Elder Lin had regained consciousness, and his pale face had a touch of rosiness.
"Elder Lin, no need for formalities. It was a trivial matter," Sam Xu said with a slight smile.
"Master Xu is indeed a master. My dad hasn't been well in the past half month. Today, when I was picking you up, he suddenly fell ill. That's why I asked Jenna to rush towards the airport."
"Thanks to Master Xu today. Otherwise, my father might have been in danger," Adolf Lin sighed in relief.
"Haha, of course. When my master steps in, there's no illness he can't cure," Sam Xu's disciple proudly said.
"Elder Lin, you should go home and rest. I will perform acupuncture for you three times a week. The illness will surely be cured," Sam Xu smiled.
"Thank you, Old Xu, I..." Elder Lin, who had awakened, didn't finish his sentence of gratitude when suddenly his face changed and he spat out a mouthful of blood, then fainted.
"Dad!" Adolf Lin exclaimed in shock, "Master Xu, what's going on?"
"The blood flow is going in the wrong direction and cold air has attacked the lungs. Quickly take him to the emergency room!" Sam Xu immediately checked and his expression drastically changed. The doctors and nurses on the scene became chaotic.
"Where's the young man from earlier?" Sam Xu demanded.
"Don't know, he just left."
"Mr. Lin, apart from that young man, no one can cure Master Xu's illness." Sam Xu stomped his foot in regret. "It's my fault for missing out on such an expert."
"Go find him, no matter the cost. We must bring him back," Adolf Lin shouted.
"Wait a minute, are you sure you're alright?" Jenna Lin caught up with Thorpe Chen, asking with concern.
"I'm really fine. Don't worry about it. I won't cause you any trouble," Thorpe Chen gave a wry smile, thinking she was a kind-hearted girl.

"Are you sure you don't want to get checked out? You were hit pretty hard," Jenna Lin said, still concerned.
"No need, can you..." Thorpe Chen hesitated for a moment and then asked awkwardly, "Could you lend me five hundred yuan?"
"Lend money?" Jenna Lin was taken aback. She thought Thorpe Chen was a bit... odd. Still, she took out her wallet and handed him five banknotes.
"Thank you. My name is Thorpe Chen. I'll pay you back. Here's my phone number. If I don't pay you back, you can come find me," Thorpe Chen joyfully took the money, gave his phone number, and left with gratitude.
Jenna Lin was dumbfounded. If Thorpe Chen had asked for fifty thousand, it wouldn't have been unreasonable, but he only asked for five hundred?
"Jenna, where's the young man from earlier?" Suddenly, a call from Adolf Lin came in a rush.
"He left, Dad. What's wrong?" Jenna Lin was puzzled.
"Your grandfather's condition is critical. Find him immediately and ask him to come back. Hurry!" Adolf Lin yelled.
"What? I'm on it!" Jenna Lin exclaimed in shock.
"Honey, I'm back." Thorpe Chen returned after buying some herbs and an old hen.
The house was empty and the door was open. There was some disorder inside. Thorpe Chen had a bad feeling.
Suddenly, his phone rang and he quickly answered.
"Thorpe Chen?" A deep voice came from the other end.
"Who are you?" Thorpe Chen responded gravely.
"Heh, you owe me money and you hit my people. Who do you think I am?" The voice sneered.
"You're Eddie Zou," Thorpe Chen said, alarmed, "If you have a problem, deal it with me. Don't involve my wife."
"Meet me at the Dynasty Clubhouse in half an hour. If you're late, I'll cut open your wife's stomach," Eddie Zou coldly laughed.
