Chapter 9

Coincidentally, my parents were going to a business trip that Friday. Now that that problem is crossed out, next in line is how the hell am I supposed to survive this party?

Adam was going to pick me up at 6 and bring me home by whatever time it’ll be. So here I am, in my usual over-sized t-shirt and baggy jeans, waiting by my doorstep for Adam to pick me up.

The sound of an engine grew louder as it neared by and I rose from my seating position to the gates and opened it slightly for me to slip out. After making sure it was locked, I turned to face Adam who was sitting on his bike which, I have to admit looks awesome, maybe slightly better than my baby.

Oh who am I kidding, nothing’s more beautiful than my baby.

“So, are you going to get on or do we have to go through the ‘There is no way in hell am I going to mount that deathtrap’ phase?” He tried mocking me with a high pitched voice. I scoffed at him and grabbed the helmet he offered me before slipping it on.

I mounted the bike behind him without hesitation. He watched me with a semi-amused, semi-impressed smirk

“You might want to hold on, sweetheart.” He told me as his foot kicked the stand and turned the engine back on. When I didn’t move, he chuckled once more before his hands snaked behind him and grabbed my hands, guiding it to circle his waist and I decided to let him have his fun for a short while.

The minute he took them off and started to speed up, I took my hands off his waist and held on to his shoulders instead. The last person I circled my hands around was my gramps when I was 10 and I surely wouldn’t give this annoying little prick that privilege.

When we arrived, the party was on full blast and it was packed to the brim. A couple was making out on the steps so when we finally made our way off the bike and towards the entrance, we had no choice but to interfere with their make out session.

Adam grabbed the back of the guys’ shirt, forcing them apart and when the guy whipped his head towards Adam, his glare wore off and a huge grin broke out. Adam mirrored his expression before doing that handshake my brother taught me all those years ago.

I turned to the girl who was gaping at me. She looked kind of familiar somehow. Before it all clicked, she launched herself on me and hugged me like her life depended on it, all the while catching me off guard and causing me to stumble a bit but I finally held on to her and regained my balance

“Case!” She squealed and I can’t help but grin at the voice.

“Monic, what are you doing here?” I exclaimed. She giggled and seemed sheepish before gesturing to the guy beside Adam who was looking at the scene before him occur as if it was some movie.

“So, you know each other?” Adam’s friend asked.

“And you are?” I questioned him back as I narrowed my eyes into slit.

“I’m her boyfriend.” He answered.

“I’m her older sister.” I snapped back, not liking how he knows Adam and is dating Monic.

“Older cousin,” Monic corrected.

“It’s the same thing!” I argued.

“Anyways, who’s this guy?” Monic pointed to Adam.

“He’s my best friend since diapers. Monic, Adam. Adam, Monic.” He introduced them and suddenly they both looked at Adam and me expectantly.

“What?” I asked.

“Are you together?” Monic voiced her thoughts with raised eyebrows.

“Yes.”

“No.”

I glared at Adam. “There is no fudging way in hell that I’ll ever be caught dead as your girlfriend.”

Adam looked at me in a challenging way and I met it head on. “And why not?”

I could tell that he was holding in a smile by the way the ends of his lips slightly quirked in an amused way causing me to narrow my eyes at him.

I took a step towards him before shoving him by the chest with my finger. “Because,” shove, “you’re”, shove “a”, shove “dollop- head (from Merlin, TV Show)”, shove. “And besides you didn’t ask me out.” I stepped back with a shrug.

“That can be arranged,” he said casually, strolling towards me he looked into my eyes and asked softly, “Cassandra, will you be my girlfriend?”

I faked squeal and jumped up and down before stilling and let my face grow hard before answering with a short, “No.”

Monic and her boyfriend chuckled. “I like her.” He stated.

My gaze snapped to him, finally remembering that I have an unfinished business with him and I stalked towards him while he gulped, his face losing its color. I took a hold of his shirt before putting my face dangerously close to his.

“And you. I’m telling you now. Hurt my baby sister and your balls will be at stake. So make sure she doesn’t come to me crying about how you cheated on her or played with her feelings or I will hunt you down and kill you in your sleep. Mark my words.” My voice was soft but firm so only he can hear. Then I released my grip on him and stepped back, putting a sweet smile on my face and asked him once more, “Capiché?”

He nodded frantically with wide eyes, seeming terrified of my swift change of mood before stepping closer to Monic and kissing the top of her head profusely. Monic giggled at him and shoved him away. I winked at her and smirked while she simply smiled at me.

Adam took a hold of my hand, I glared at it but he didn’t seem to be letting it go anytime soon so I let him guide me through the huge house. Some people stared at me, probably because of my clothing but I ignored them like the plague and continued venturing through the crowds like an oblivious freak.

Monic and her boyfriend followed behind us as we made our way to the kitchen to get some drinks.

I was so focused on looking at the dance floor in disgust, feeling my stomach churn in repulsion, where people were practically dry humping each other that I didn’t look at where I’m going until I bumped into someone and liquid splattered onto my shirt. I groaned in annoyance.

“Look at what you’ve done!” A voice screeched. Aw hell naw. Why does reality have to hate me so much?
