"Matthew Zhao, are you even listening to me anymore? You..."
William Chen was in a hurry, and when she turned around, she saw Matthew Zhao leisurely cracking melon seeds with his legs crossed. She almost fainted from anger. This guy was really fearless.
"Wife, calm down. It's just a little matter with the Luo family. I don't take it seriously," Matthew Zhao said slowly.
William Chen was speechless. Just a little matter with the Luo family? Matthew Zhao wasn't a local, so he didn't understand the terror of the Luo family. It was only natural for her to be furious and want to give Matthew Zhao a few slaps.
Outside, the guards arranged by their parents were responsible for "watching" Matthew Zhao. And beyond them were the Luo family's guards.
Now, things were urgent, but Matthew Zhao acted as if nothing was happening.
"Stop calling me 'wife,'" William Chen said, frustrated. While she admitted to using Matthew Zhao as a pawn, she didn't want him to die like this.
"We've registered our marriage," Matthew Zhao said seriously.
"It's fake. We agreed to divorce after one month," William Chen gritted her teeth. "Now, I'm talking about the matter with the Luo family."
"I'm touched to see you worry and care about me," Matthew Zhao said with some emotion. "My damn charm, huh?"
William Chen: "..."
She clenched her fist, grinding her teeth.
"William."
The voice outside was Emily Li's.
William Chen turned around and glared at Emily Li. "Matthew Zhao, don't talk nonsense."
"As you wish," Matthew Zhao grinned.
"Mom, what's the matter?" William Chen opened the door.
Emily Li gave a disgusted look at Matthew Zhao inside and said, "William, it's getting late. Go to bed early."
"Mom, I know. I'll go to bed early," William Chen nodded.
Emily Li gave William Chen a glare. She either genuinely didn't understand or was pretending not to. When she told William Chen to go to bed early, it meant she should kick Matthew Zhao out of the room. It was improper for an unmarried man and woman to be alone in a room, especially considering Matthew Zhao was unworthy of being in William's room.
"Mom, there's nothing going on. You go to bed early too. By the way, where's Dad?" William Chen asked.
"Your dad is in the living room having tea with Steward Ma," Emily Li deliberately said loudly so that Matthew Zhao could hear. "Unlike some people who hide in a woman's room like a coward."
"Mom, you're exaggerating. Matthew and I are already registered married. It's normal for us to be in the room together," William Chen was genuinely afraid that Matthew Zhao would be instigated by Steward Ma and cause a scene in the living room. She quickly added, "Mom, I'm a bit tired."
Saying this, she moved to close the door.
Emily Li blocked it with her hand, not holding back: "Matthew Zhao, are you even a man? What's the matter with you hiding in William's room? Do you think you can avoid it tonight and escape tomorrow?"
"Mother-in-law's suggestion is to let me join them for tea. Alright then," Matthew Zhao smiled, getting up.
"Matthew Zhao, sit down," William Chen turned back and glared at him. If Matthew Zhao clashed with Steward Ma again, there was no telling what Steward Ma might do to him on the spot. Steward Ma was a martial arts expert, and in his eyes, Matthew Zhao's skills were like fragile porcelain.
"Wife, your mother is right. Your father and Steward Ma are chatting outside. As a grown man, it's improper for me to be here with you, chatting and expressing love," Matthew Zhao said seriously. "It's not the proper way to treat a guest."
With that, Matthew Zhao ignored William Chen's murderous glare and strode out.
Emily Li sarcastically said, "Oh, he's finally acting like a man." In reality, she really hoped Steward Ma would just take Matthew Zhao away now and not let this jinx stay in the Chen family. But Steward Ma had said that the head of the Luo family would only meet Matthew Zhao the next morning.
William Chen had no choice but to follow behind Matthew Zhao, gnashing her teeth. This guy knew that her mother was deliberately trying to provoke him, yet he still jumped into the fire pit. He was really not thinking straight.
Soon, Matthew Zhao and the others arrived in the living room.
Tyler Chen and Steward Ma were chatting and drinking tea as if they were old friends.
"Steward Ma, Matthew Zhao is here to offer you tea," Emily Li said, genuinely worried that Matthew Zhao would cause trouble and anger the Luo family. She spoke before Matthew Zhao even arrived.
"Oh," Steward Ma gave Matthew Zhao a disdainful glance, and with a snort, he said just one word.
"Matthew Zhao, offer tea to Steward Ma."
Tyler Chen quickly poured the tea and gestured for Matthew Zhao to come up. He hoped that Steward Ma would speak a few kind words for Matthew Zhao in front of the Luo family, and maybe they would spare him.
Seeing that Matthew Zhao didn't come up to serve the tea, Tyler Chen frowned. This young man seemed to be looking for trouble. Don't drag the Chen family down with you.
"Steward Ma, Matthew just arrived from the countryside and isn't good with words. Let me serve you the tea," William Chen took three steps forward, holding the teacup with both hands and speaking politely. She didn't want to see Matthew Zhao beaten to death by the Luo family, and she had to endure a bit of humiliation.
William Chen was regretting a bit now. She had been too impulsive earlier. She shouldn't have celebrated so publicly on social media. Now, it was widely known.
If she hadn't posted on social media, Ethan Luo wouldn't have stormed into the restaurant with bodyguards, and Matthew Zhao wouldn't have shot Ethan Luo. The whole incident was a result of her impulsive behavior.
She had thought that after posting on social media, Ethan Luo would be too angry to pursue her. Her family wouldn't force her to marry Ethan Luo either.
Never did she expect that plans can change!
"Miss Chen, I can certainly accept your tea, but now is not the right time," Steward Ma chuckled, not accepting the teacup William Chen offered. He looked at Matthew Zhao in front of him. "What do you think, young man?"
Matthew Zhao grinned, "Old man, under the heavens, there are less than five people who can personally serve tea to me, Matthew Zhao. You don't make the cut."
Smack.
Tyler Chen's hand slammed on the table, scolding angrily, "Such nerves! Matthew Zhao, how dare you speak to Steward Ma like that?" This guy was utterly lawless. If you want to die, don't drag down the Chen family.
Emily Li also gasped in shock. This Matthew Zhao was here to bring disaster to their Chen family.
William Chen: "..."
She clenched her fists, gritting her teeth. This guy really had no filter.
"Looking for death."
Sure enough, killing intent flashed in Steward Ma's eyes. Although the family head had told him to bring Matthew Zhao back to the main house to kneel and apologize, he hadn't said anything about not giving Matthew Zhao a proper lesson.
With a light tap of his finger, the teacup flew towards Matthew Zhao's face with a whoosh.
The speed was astonishing.
Let alone a person standing in front, even a wooden board would be pierced through.
"Matthew Zhao, get out of the way."
It was an instinctive shout from William Chen. Steward Ma was a martial arts expert. With his terrifying inner strength, that teacup would either kill or severely injure Matthew Zhao.
Matthew Zhao seemed to be in a daze, standing still.
