Wesley Lu looked astonished, "You still remember that?"
It had been fifteen years since that incident, and he thought Ethel Su had long forgotten.
At the same time, Wesley Lu was overjoyed. This meant he hadn't mistaken her identity,Ethel Su was indeed the little girl who saved him years ago, along with a gentle woman who must have been her mother.
A glint appeared in Ethel Su's eyes, "So that's why you saved me?"
Curious, she asked, "How did you recognize me? Was it because of that box of lollipops? Weren't you worried about saving the wrong person?"
Wesley Lu smiled slightly, "Besides the lollipops, I also remember the beauty mark on your forehead. Even if it wasn't you, I would have saved you. Saving the wrong person wouldn't have mattered."
The fear in Ethel Su's eyes dissipated somewhat, but seeing her dead bodyguard, she was deeply saddened.
Wesley Lu sighed, "I thought it was just a simple assassination attempt, I didn't expect to encounter you... If I had known, I would have acted sooner."
Ethel Su asked, "Do you often kill people?"
Wesley Lu hummed in affirmation.
Ethel Su's face, which had just regained some color, turned pale again.
Wesley Lu glanced at her, "The world I live in is different from yours. If I don't kill others, they will kill me... Just like back then, if I hadn't met you, I would probably be just a mound of yellow earth now."
"How did you end up like that back then, covered in blood? You were only in your teens, right? The doctor said your wounds were from a beating, you were almost beyond saving."
Ethel Su couldn't imagine who would harm a teenager so viciously.
"I was lucky to have met you two, who took me to the hospital and paid my medical bills... But when I woke up, I couldn't find you. I've always wanted to thank you!"
Wesley Lu stood up, looking at Ethel Su with sincere eyes, "Thank you!"
Ethel Su was a bit flustered, "You, you don't have to do this. Didn't you save me too? We're even now."
Wesley Lu smiled silently, "My life motto is to repay both grudges and kindness."
"Ethel Su, you're in great danger right now. I will do my best to protect you. Don't fear me, I'll leave once the crisis is over."
"My appearance fee is usually very high, but for you, it's free, because you paid it fifteen years ago."
Ethel Su knew Wesley Lu was referring to the hospital expenses paid back then.
She nodded lightly, "Then... thank you!"
Although he had killed many people, she believed he wouldn't harm her.
What she didn't know was that by protecting her, Wesley Lu had put himself in great danger, willingly diving into the fire. He would face the assassination attempts of the entire assassin organization while also protecting her.
Wesley Lu's actions were a complete betrayal of the assassin organization. What awaited him was endless pursuit until one side was completely gone.
Of course, Wesley Lu was aware of this. When killing Hardys and others, he had already prepared to face the entire organization.
He set up the crime scene.
Such tasks were not difficult for him.
He also coached Ethel Su on a story... On their way home, they encountered an assassin, the bodyguard was killed, the assassin forced her to hand over cancer treatment data, and when about to kill her, another group appeared, killed the assassin, took the data, and fled. They hid in the car, narrowly escaping.
Then, they called the police and notified the Su family.
Fifteen minutes later, the police arrived.
Seeing the horrific scene, they all turned pale.
They quickly cordoned off the area, and after finding Wesley Lu and Ethel Su, they conducted a routine inquiry.
Ethel Su, following Wesley Lu's instructions, repeated the story.
After examining the scene, the police found no discrepancies with Ethel Su's account, but they still needed them to go back to the station to give a statement.
Ethel Su struggled to maintain her composure, gripping Wesley Lu's hand tightly, her knuckles turning white.
Wesley Lu acted well, appearing shocked on the surface but remaining calm inside.
Faking a crime scene was basic for an assassin, and he had done it countless times.
Not until late at night did the two leave the police station.
The Su family was already waiting outside. When they arrived at the scene, Wesley Lu and Ethel Su had already been taken to the police station.
"Ethel..."
A beautiful woman in a white cheongsam, still charming, ran over, looking worriedly at Ethel Su, "Are you hurt anywhere?"
The rest of the Su family gathered around, concerned about Ethel Su.
Wesley Lu looked at the charming woman, remembering her gentle demeanor. It was she and Ethel Su who had taken him to the hospital back then.
After confirming that Ethel Su was unharmed and just shaken, the Su family breathed a sigh of relief but were still uneasy.
"What exactly happened, Ethel?"
The speaker was an elderly man with white hair, wearing traditional Chinese attire.
He was Ethel Su's grandfather, Agatha Su... the founder of the Su Group, now completely retired.
Ethel Su repeated Wesley Lu's words, and when she mentioned their narrow escape, everyone realized there was another person present.
All eyes turned to Wesley Lu.
"Grandfather, uncles, and aunts, hello. I'm Ethel's boyfriend, Wesley Lu. You can call me Wesley."
Wesley Lu introduced himself with a smile, though internally wondering if he should have taught Ethel Su another story, like how heroically he shielded her from bullets, to make the Su family accept him more easily.
The Su family looked surprised, examining Wesley Lu.
Boyfriend?
Where did this boyfriend suddenly come from?
Then, all eyes turned back to Ethel Su.
Ethel Su, a bit embarrassed, blushed unevenly and nodded in feigned composure.
"Ethel, when did you get a boyfriend? Why didn't dad know?"
Ethel Su's father, Arvin Su, was not very tall, with dark skin and an ordinary appearance, but had a strong presence as the current head of the Su Group.
He looked astonished at Ethel Su.
Wesley Lu thought, thankfully Ethel Su inherited her mother's features, or else it would have been a pity if she resembled her father.
Ethel Su shyly replied, "We, we've been together for three months. I was planning to bring him home tonight, but then this happened... If it weren't for Wesley tonight, I might have been killed."
Wesley Lu's lips curved slightly. It seemed he had worried unnecessarily; Ethel Su was smarter than he thought. Her words conveyed two messages: first, that she wouldn't betray him, and second, she no longer feared him and accepted his protection.
