Chapter 10 Reapers!

by Death 16:58,Oct 24,2020
Demon shook his sleeve violently: "That’s not what you should ask, you dead old woman, the reapers are here in minutes, your time is up."

The word ‘reapers’ made her shudder all over, but soon she recovered and gave out two weird laughter: "He he...
My presence was not supported by my soul, the resentment and grudge, the last breath in my throat kept my body stand. You, you're not like me, you'll be taken back to hell!"

Grandaunt was presented here with her rotten and mummified corpse, the soul must have long gone; so if as they said, the ‘reapers’ were coming, were they really coming for him?

That was not good. It was not that I cared about the 'husband,' but if he was reaped and I was left alone with this old lady zombie, I was not going to end very well. With him here, he would still try to protect me, for the sake of the thing inside my belly, for the sake of what-he-claimed his son.

If I remembered it right, he had sex with me for only once, which was four years ago; the others were simply dream or illusion of mine; not to mention the odds of getting pregnant, if I did get pregnant for four years long, it was not going to be anything good in my belly; I had made up my mind, after this, after all this, I will go for a thorough check in the hospital; I would take it out either with the help of doctor, or maybe a monk.

"Why don't we run first, demon? She's a zombie, and you're a ghost. What if you're taken?" I poked him on the back.

He turned his head and gave me a glare before gnashing his teeth saying: "what did you just call me?!”

I shivered and said nothing. I didn’t know his name. What did he expect me to call him?
Besides, he was, at the end of the day, an annoying ghost, a powerful demon...

On all fours, grandaunt was on her attack postures like an fierce wild anymore.I slipped away immediately; if he was not going to run, I would not stay for him either.

I ran toward the village before they even realized my absence. My parents were still there. I had to go. They had taken the main road, so I thrust the dense bushes, praying deep down that I wouldn't step on a snake or others...

From behind, the demon seemed to utter a curse at me, but I was too focused on fleeing to hear what exactly he said.

Running, some voice caught my attention; I slowed down the pace to hide behind a tree; in a wilderness like this at midnight, I doubted if they were even living persons especially after what I had experienced tonight.

By the light of the moon, I saw a man dressed in white and wearing a high white hat dangling his legs from a branch. He held a chain in his hand, which extended to the ground. At the other end of the chain were several seemingly identical people...

"Sis, there are still one sense missing with that old lady's three souls and seven senses, where do you think it is hiding? We have been searching for it long enough; if we could not bring it back this time, Yama is going to throw us into the frying pan of the hell..."

It was a man who spoke, but not the one sitting on the branch. I should not have seen him if he had not spoken. He was dressed like the one at the top of the tree, except that he was all black just like the white one who was completely white from the head, face to the toe...He was almost invisible in the darkness of the night.
Were they Black and White reapers from the hell?
When I was a child, I had overheard a conversation between my grandma and my younger granduncle; I thought they were bluffing. But here they were.

The one on the branch finally replied in a very high-pitched woman's voice, "Don’t worry, brother. We have felt her presence, don’t we? We're going back take her back. Besides, it is very like Yama was resting and splitting his soul to go after the lady; that human girl has skills of her own. It would take a while for him to go back.”

The black and one white dragged those a scraggly-hair 'person' and walked in the direction toward me.
My breath became extremely ragged at the sight, ghost reapers in front of me, fierce zombie behind me, where to go?
Whatever! I sprinted back through the bushes and toward that demon; I had to warn him of their coming before he got reaped by them.

He was married to me anyway, though I didn't much like to admit it.

Finally I was back at where I fled before; strangely, he had trod my grandaunt under his foot, leaving her struggling with her claws painfully scratching in the air...

I could not care less; waving my hands, I quickly shouted to that demon: "Run, the black and white reapers is here, if you don’t wanna get dragged back to the hell, I had heard about frying pan or something alike..."

That demon turned his head and looked at me. “ Didn’t you ran away? Scared back by the reapers?"

As if my mind was seen through, I felt a bit embarrassed...

With a pretence of seriousness, I replied: "Ah, don’t be an ass and forget about that old lady! You should run now!”

He trod so heavily on the chest of my grandaunt that she could not move a muscle; I thought he was going to leave till he turned to me and said plainly: “ Run?

Why should I? I've never been afraid of anyone."

I froze for a moment, wondering if he was out of his mind; he was not afraid of the Black and White reapers?
Should I believe in his proud and arrogant boast that he was afraid of no one, not even the professional ghost reapers?
Or should I run for my own life and left them all to be reaped?

A shrill woman voice rang and brought me back to the earth: "Wow, finally, this old lady takes us forever to hunt down, the last sense was still in the corpse..."

My scalp tingling with fear, I turned to look that black and white walking toward us; in a blink, they were right in front of me, making me trembling even fiercely. The white looked stunned at that demon with her hand covering the mouth while the black looked down on the floor as if he had done something wrong. Both of them ignored the grandaunt being trod on by the demon.

The demon said abruptly, "I am only a random ghost. Wander here to meet my wife. Is it okay with you? If you want this old woman, just take it; don’t forget to throw the corpse back to the grave after you take the last sense of hers."

The black hurriedly replied: "Yes, yes, it is okay, we are okay with that, we would reap her sense immediately, put her body back to the grave...We've been looking for it all over the place while she was wandering around..."

Not until the black nudge her did the white came to her senses: "Yes, yes...we are on it now..."
