Gem and the cannibal broke apart like a zipper pulled open. Talin was in the middle, watching with narrowed eyes, spear clutched, breathing uneven. Her enemies moved differently despite their same objective; Gem, disciplined and holding back. Hnat, unsteady, like she couldn't decide which way to go.
