I pulled out my phone and sent a text to Beth and Paul, telling them I was picked up and that I would see them in three months. They wouldn't read it anytime soon, though.

When everyone was in the car, the driver put the car in reverse and backed out of the garage. Eric, who sat in the front, grabbed a clicker from the glove compartment and pressed it. The gate opened, letting us out into the sunny L.A. Street.
