chapter 9 :Sister-in-law’s little moves

Led by Grace Lu’s mother, Eiland entered the living room. When he came, Eiland knew that the Lu family consisted of four members, which he found manageable. However, as he stepped into the living room, he was startled by the scene.
There were at least a dozen people sitting on the sofa in the living room.
Grace Lu’s mother turned back to glare at Helena Lu and said, "Helena, what are you standing there for? Hurry up and introduce everyone to Eiland."
"Huh?"
Helena Lu and Grace Lu approached, and upon seeing the scene in the living room, they were equally surprised. They had just brought back a boyfriend, why did their parents invite all these relatives and friends?
Then Grace Lu’s mother took Grace Lu into the kitchen, leaving Helena Lu to introduce Eiland, "This is my boyfriend, Eiland. Eiland, this is my father."
"Uncle, hello."
"This is my father's comrade-in-arms, Uncle Zhang."
"Hello, Uncle Zhang."
"This is my second aunt."
"Hello, Second Aunt."

Helena Lu went through the introductions, and Eiland greeted each person. He understood that this was probably Helena Lu's parents gathering relatives and friends to assess their future son-in-law. However, when Helena Lu introduced her five-year-old cousin, Eiland was puzzled. Did he have to win over children to be considered suitable?
Helena Lu's father was named Caleb Lu, with a military background. His rank was likely not low, so he exuded an air of authority. He stood and said to Eiland, "Come, have a seat. No need to be so formal here."
"Yes, Uncle."
Eiland and Helena Lu sat on the sofa. As soon as they sat down, he felt a bit uncomfortable, as all those dozen pairs of eyes were fixed on him. Initially, Eiland didn't feel much pressure, but now he sensed the atmosphere becoming more serious.
"Eiland, what kind of work do you do?" Caleb Lu asked, as expected.
Eiland replied calmly, "Uncle, I used to work in a foreign company as an assistant. Now, I've started my own company, although it hasn't fully taken off yet. Currently, there's a bit of a gap between me and Helena, but I believe that with my efforts, I'll definitely achieve something in my career."
Caleb Lu calmly stated, "For a man, the state of his career isn't the most important. I value character."
"Huh?"
Eiland was a bit surprised by Caleb Lu's words. Generally, people like Caleb Lu would place importance on whether a young person is ambitious and capable of building a career. However, evidently, Caleb Lu held a different viewpoint.
At this moment, Caleb Lu's second sister, Janet Lu, said, "Big brother is right. Our family lacks nothing, so Helena’s partner doesn't need to be wealthy. Everyone knows that Helena's journey from graduating university to becoming the principal of MuLan Middle was far from easy. Over these years, she's endured a lot. Our wish is for her to find someone who will cherish her, and whether he's rich or not is not as important."
Eiland sweated a little. It seemed that the Lu family wasn't conducting an official interview. They didn't have very high expectations for Helena's future husband.
Without delay, Eiland took Helena Lu's hand and said to Caleb Lu, "Uncle, rest assured. I guarantee that in this world, apart from you and Aunt, there won't be a second person who will cherish Helena more than I do. I've been taking care of her all this time. She'll tell you that I'll be a qualified boyfriend."
"Oh?"
Caleb Lu looked at Helena Lu, evidently seeking confirmation.
Helena Lu blushed slightly. In truth, she was quite frustrated. What was this guy talking about? Saying that he's been taking care of her all this time... It was almost like implying they'd been living together. This was beyond Helena Lu's control.
However, because Helena Lu's decision to bring a "boyfriend" home was quite hasty, she hadn't carefully considered many things. For instance, the issue of cohabitation hadn't been discussed with Eiland. Now that Eiland was saying this, she could only reluctantly nod and say, "Yes, Eiland really knows how to take care of people. Dad, you can be rest assured!"
Then, Helena Lu even hugged Eiland's arm intimately, displaying an affectionate demeanour. But perhaps, in everyone's eyes, Helena Lu and Eiland's display of affection seemed genuine. However, Eiland knew the truth. While Helena Lu was hugging his arm, she was also pinching it hard.
"Alright, everyone, let's not just sit around chatting. Come over and have dinner." At this moment, Grace Lu’s mother's voice came from the kitchen. Her name was Chloe Lin, a virtuous and kind woman.
"Aunt, let me help you."
Eiland quickly went over to assist with carrying bowls and chopsticks. He wasn't particularly diligent, but he did it just to escape Helena Lu's clutches.
Chloe Lin hurriedly asked Eiland to sit down and said, "This child, treat our home like your own. Please don't be so formal."
"Aunt, it's because I see this place as my own that I'm so proactive. At home, I can cook and do the dishes, so I'm not being formal at all."
"It's becoming rarer to find men who can cook nowadays. Look at Helena's dad; he hasn't set foot in the kitchen for who knows how many years. Helena found a boyfriend like you, it's truly her good fortune."
"Mom."
Hearing Chloe Lin's complete bias toward Eiland, Helena Lu couldn't help but feel displeased. She pouted and said, "Mom, do you have to put it that way? Your daughter is the most outstanding one. It's his good fortune to have a girlfriend like me, okay?"
Chloe Lin rolled her eyes. "You, who's always stern and bossy as a school principal, finding a boyfriend is already considered quite good."
"Mom..."
Helena Lu was on the brink of collapse. Why did her mother have no idea how outstanding her daughter was? In reality, many people pursued her. It was just that she didn't like them.
Grace Lu, on the side, grinned and said, "Big Sis, Mom really has a discerning eye. She knew you wouldn't be able to find a husband."
"You cheeky girl!" Helena Lu glared fiercely at Grace Lu.
Then, everyone sat down. After Caleb Lu started using his chopsticks, they all began to eat. The whole meal was somewhat awkward, which left Eiland feeling a bit frustrated.
Suddenly, Eiland's foot was kicked.
Huh?
Eiland knew perfectly well that he was kicked by the person on his left. However, the person sitting on his left wasn't Helena Lu, but rather Grace Lu. Eiland tried to turn his head, but Grace Lu's voice came in a low tone, "Brother-in-law, don't look over here."
"Huh?"
Eiland was baffled. What did Grace Lu mean by this? During the meal, she was using her foot to interact with him. Could it be that his little sister-in-law had some kind of interest in him and was trying to seduce him? This... was truly too stimulating.
Even if Eiland and Helena Lu's relationship was fake, if faced with the provocative behaviour of such a model-like little sister-in-law, any man would be tempted, right?
