He chuckled and shook his head, feeling somewhat helpless. Indeed, when he first arrived here, his appearance was not great. It's understandable that others would think the same.
Beside him, Aurora Xiao's beautiful eyes slightly narrowed, but her heart was filled with reluctance.
"This beggar-like guy, he's not really going to stay at our place, is he?"
If others knew that a strange young man was living in her house, it would cause a stir at school. How would others view her?
Thinking of this, she felt a strong aversion and couldn't help but say coldly, "Jonathan Ye, right?"
"This is our family's home. It’s inconvenient for you to stay here. I would feel uncomfortable!"
"You should go rent a place outside!"
Aurora Xiao's voice was cold, and she stood with her arms crossed, displaying the demeanor of a young lady.
She had intended to be more tactful, but seeing that Jonathan Ye did not refuse Maya He's offer and seemed intent on staying, she had to be straightforward.
Her goal was to prevent Jonathan Ye from staying.
It was a joke. Even the young talents at school had never been so close to her. What right did a beggar-like, desolate boy have to live under the same roof and be in her daily company?
Although Jonathan Ye had helped her mother, Maya He, Maya had told her that they had given him ten thousand yuan afterward as a thank you. In her view, that gratitude was already repaid.
But now Jonathan Ye had come to her door in a shabby state, even wearing clothes given by Maya He. After accepting a thousand yuan earlier, he still lingered, intent on staying in their home. Wasn't his thick-skinnedness a bit too much?
She utterly despised such a man without self-respect and spine.
Jonathan Ye's expression didn’t change much. From the moment he saw Aurora Xiao, he had noticed the disdain and contempt in her eyes.
But who was he? Why would he stoop to the level of Aurora Xiao? To him, she was just Maya He's daughter. If not for that relationship, he wouldn't even bother speaking to Aurora Xiao.
Seeing Jonathan Ye's indifferent reaction, Aurora Xiao frowned and said, “You’re young and able-bodied, why rely on others? Why not earn your living with your own hands?”
“If you need it, I can help you find a job through my contacts. It won’t pay much, but the salary should be enough for your basic needs. That should be good enough, right?”
Determined to make him leave her family's villa, she was even prepared to trouble her friends to find Jonathan Ye a job in their companies.
Jonathan Ye just smiled lightly and shook his head. He didn’t even glance at Aurora Xiao, casually picked up a pen from the table, and wrote a note. Then, he took a small, brand-new paper package from his worn shoulder bag, inserting the note inside.
“Tell Aunt He that this is for her when she returns!”
He threw his shabby shoulder bag into the trash and left the villa with a parting remark.
Aurora Xiao looked up to see Jonathan Ye walking away, leaving behind a solitary and melancholic silhouette.
For some reason, a trace of pity arose in her heart. She wanted to call him back, but after hesitating for a moment, she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
“Am I crazy? Why would I want to call such a country bumpkin back home?”
Shaking her head, she went upstairs to get ready. She had plans to go shopping with her friends in the afternoon.
As for the paper package Jonathan Ye left on the chair, she didn’t pay it any mind. What good could come from something taken out of that dirty backpack? She would have thrown it away if it weren’t meant for Maya He.
After leaving the villa, Jonathan Ye directly got into a taxi.
“Where to, young man?” the driver asked warmly.
“To the Chenfeng Group Building!” Jonathan replied casually.
Upon hearing the destination, the driver immediately started the car, curious, “You don’t look like you work at Chenfeng Group?”
Having driven in Lu City for over five years, the driver was familiar with the employees of Chenfeng Group, who were always well-dressed. He had never seen someone like Jonathan Ye, dressed in casual clothes, heading to the company.
Jonathan Ye smiled faintly, “I don’t work there; their president works for me. I’m just visiting the company!”
Hearing this, the driver glanced skeptically at Jonathan Ye and stopped talking, internally scoffing.
The president of Chenfeng Group was one of the most influential figures in Lu City. Usually, he interacted with business elites and high-ranking officials. Ordinary people could only dream of meeting him.
To think that a young Jonathan Ye would claim the president of Chenfeng Group worked for him, suggesting he might be the chairman of the group, was utterly ridiculous.
“Today's youth really talk big without thinking,” the driver thought, shaking his head, losing interest in further conversation.
About ten minutes later, the imposing Chenfeng Group Building came into view, towering above its surroundings, drawing awe from passersby.
After paying the fare, Jonathan Ye headed straight to the reception.
“Good day, sir. How may I assist you?” The receptionist asked with a professional smile.
“Could you call Zachary Wu and tell him I’m waiting here?” Jonathan asked.
The receptionist was taken aback upon hearing this. She couldn’t recall any employee named Zachary Wu.
After a moment, she apologized, “Could you tell me his department and position, sir, so I can look him up?”
“His position?” Jonathan said calmly, “Oh, he’s the president of the group.”
The other receptionists looked over with puzzled expressions.
The receptionist who was speaking to Jonathan finally realized who Zachary Wu was – the president of Chenfeng Group. She looked at Jonathan with displeasure.
Zachary Wu was a leading figure in Lu City’s high society. Many sought to meet him, but he rarely accepted visitors. Those not of a certain stature couldn’t even get a phone call with him. And here was Jonathan, a plainly dressed youth, asking to see Zachary Wu, not just for a visit, but for Wu to come to him.
“Sorry, sir, our president is currently in a crucial meeting and is not receiving visitors. He doesn’t have any meetings scheduled for today, so I don’t think you will be able to see him,” the receptionist replied, albeit professionally.
“You don’t need to worry about that. Just tell him my name, and he will come down to see me. I’m Jonathan Ye,” he said, maintaining his composure.
The receptionist hesitated, but fearing Jonathan might indeed be an important guest of Wu’s, she agreed to call.
She was about to contact Wu’s secretary when a shapely young woman in a professional suit approached.
