chapter 16 quiet

by Laurel 18:31,Dec 18,2023
The place was eerily quiet at this time.
Only Fanix Evans's painful howl faded away.
The crowd of onlookers did not expect Daffodil to be so decisive, and seemed a little frightened.
But Daffodil knew that if she was not ruthless now, her unscrupulous brother would only become worse!
Her demeanor changed swiftly from icy to gentle. She politely invited Delfina for a private conversation, "Mr. Dawson, perhaps we could talk more privately?"
Delfina agreed with a nod. He had never taken Fanix seriously, considering him nothing more than an annoying insect. Now that Hibiscus was out of danger, he felt at ease.
Daffodil seemed to have some savvy, and as a member of the Evans family, she might be of use in Delfina's plans, particularly with their pharmaceutical enterprise.
Delfina then gently addressed Hibiscus, "Hibiscus, I’ll talk with Miss Evans for a while." Hibiscus, still dazed by the turn of events, nodded in agreement.
Turning to a still shocked Nagnoloa, Delfina requested, "After the party, please make sure Hibiscus gets home safely."
Nagnoloa, taken aback, found herself unable to speak, still processing the sudden shift in the situation. By the time she collected her thoughts, Delfina had already left, leaving her with a whisper, "Delfina, you’re not what I thought you’d be," followed by an inexplicable regret.
She felt a sense of loss.
……
In the opulent VIP room, Daffodil and Delfina were alone. Observing Delfina's composure, Daffodil felt even more convinced of his extraordinary nature.
"Mr. Dawson, my brother Fanix was disrespectful to you," Daffodil apologized sincerely.
"It's fine, and thank you for stepping in," Delfina replied politely.
The polite words made Daffodil slightly uneasy.
Despite his polite words, Daffodil knew well that someone of Delfina's caliber, a grandmaster of martial arts who commanded nature and walked on waves, would not tolerate disrespect lightly.
A master cannot be insulted. How could such a person tolerate others maliciously insulting him?
"Mr. Dawson, it was entirely my brother’s fault for offending someone of your stature. He’s just a fool, not evil-hearted. Can you please find it in your heart to forgive him this time?" Daffodil, despite her earlier sternness, didn’t want her brother to face severe consequences.
"Forgive him just this time?" Delfina echoed, his voice neutral.
Daffodil, sensing his detached gaze, felt a shiver run down her spine, but she persisted, "Please, Mr. Dawson, forgive him just this once."
In this world, many people believe that having power, wealth, and influence places them at the pinnacle of society. However, this isn't always the case.
No matter how powerful or wealthy one might be, these attributes are insignificant to those who possess extraordinary abilities beyond the ordinary world.
To Daffodil, this thin-looking young man is exactly this kind of person!
Grandmaster!
Such as a grandmaster in the ancient martial arts.
Top figures in the ancient martial arts world could walk on waves, command the respect of all beings, and kill with the mere flick of a finger. While it might sound fantastical, such individuals truly exist. The real powerhouses and top-tier forces often have connections to the ancient martial arts world.
Daffodil’s father, Eddy Evans, had told her that this man must be a grandmaster.
Now, under Delfina's indifferent gaze, she felt as though she was being watched by a primordial beast, causing her to sweat profusely despite her efforts to stand her ground. "Mr. Dawson, please, I implore you to forgive Fanix just this once."
Delfina remained silent. Daffodil, with her head lowered and sweating more profusely, repeated her plea.
The VIP room was utterly silent for a long five minutes.
The silence broken only by Daffodil’ increasingly labored breathing. She seemed to be bearing an immense weight under Delfina's gaze.
Tick tick tick.
Drops of crystal sweat rolled down the girl's fair neck.
Finally, Delfina spoke, "There won’t be a next time."
"Yes! Thank you for your generosity, Mr. Dawson!" Daffodil breathed a sigh of relief, her face breaking into a smile. "To express our family's regret for the poor hospitality, please rest here for a while and have something to eat."
Delfina nodded slightly.
Soon, an array of exquisite dishes was served, each more tempting than the last. Delfina casually sampled a few, then turned his attention to the still smiling Daffodil. "The apology has been made, and the meal eaten. Is there anything else you wish to discuss?"
Daffodil tensed up at his direct question.
