chapter 17 Grandmaster

Daffodil was very nervous.
She knew that befriending an ancient martial arts grandmaster was no simple matter. After all, the grandmaster's prestige could outshine the sun and moon, and ordinary people attempting to befriend a grandmaster might be seen as an insult, turning an intended friendship sour.
This task should have been undertaken by her father to show its importance, but unexpectedly, she ran into Delfina today.
She must befriend him without annoying him.
Daffodil's mind raced, and she finally smiled, saying, "The thing is, Mr. Dawson, you saved me and my father before. We've always wanted to invite you to our home to formally express our gratitude. Would you agree to this?"
So that was it.
Delfina raised an eyebrow, seeing through Daffodil's true intentions, but he did not reject the Evans' deliberate overture since it served his purpose. "Okay."
Daffodil had many more reasons not yet spoken, and she was momentarily stunned when she heard Delfina agree, "Ah? Oh, yeah, yeah!"
Overjoyed, she said, "Then please come with me to our home in three days, where my father will formally thank you!"
Delfina hummed indifferently, stood up, and walked away. Before leaving, he casually commented, "The taste isn't bad," and then left directly.
It wasn't until Delfina disappeared that Daffodil finally relaxed. Being with a grandmaster indeed brought great pressure. She excitedly called her father, "Hello, Dad, I found him! His name is Delfina..."
Eddy, on the other end of the phone, was obviously thrilled and continuously praised her for successfully inviting Delfina, paying no mind to Fanix Evans's broken leg.
But now Daffodil hesitated again, perhaps because Delfina had agreed too readily. "Dad, can he really... take the Evans to a higher level?"
"Of course!"
"As long as he is an ancient martial arts grandmaster! He can!"
"You should be familiar with the name Lyra Aiken, right?"
Daffodil paused, a hint of excitement on her face, an admiration for a hero.
Busy, Daffodil said, "The White-Robed Lyra! Of course, I know Lyra. He is the most brilliant person in today's China!"
"Five years ago, when Western masters came to challenge, defeating almost all Chinese of the same age without them being able to fight back, it was Lyra who stepped in, seriously injuring the opponent while remaining spotless in his white robe!"
"Since then, the name of the White-Robed Lyra has been widely known!"
Hearing his daughter's excited voice, Eddy nodded, "Lyra's child, also a prodigy, is no less talented. Being very young, he has already reached the master level. You once went to the capital with the old man and should have met Folant from the Aiken family."
"Folant, only eighteen years old, has now reached the ancient martial arts master level, standing at the pinnacle among the younger generation, the future successor of the Aiken family."
"You've seen Folant and Delfina, how would you compare the two?" Eddy asked over the phone.
Daffodil was taken aback, remembering Folant she had seen in the capital years ago.
Elegant and majestic.
She still clearly remembered Folant's appearance, and now comparing him to Delfina?
Comparing Folant and Delfina.
One was elegantly graceful, the other was... peerless.
Daffodil suddenly realized that Folant, whom she had once greatly admired, seemed to have dimmed a lot.
Daffodil said in a low voice, "Delfina... seems even more impressive."
"That's right!"
Eddy seemed very certain on the phone, "Befriending Delfina, a twenty-year-old ancient martial arts grandmaster, is an opportunity with unimaginable potential. With his help, imagine how far our Evans family could rise in the future."
"Daffodil, we must seize this opportunity."
"You and Mr. Dawson are of similar age and should have a lot to talk about. Remember, interact as much as possible."
Hearing her father's words, the astute Daffodil naturally understood what Eddy meant. A blush crept onto her fair face, but she was not averse to the idea and nodded gently, "Okay, I understand."
Of course, Delfina was unaware of the conversation happening between the Evans father and daughter in the inner hall, as he had already left the area.
Just as he stepped out, he saw Verruckt hurriedly approaching him.
It turned out that after learning Delfina was looking for him, Verruckt rushed over but missed him. Learning that Dawson and Daffodil had gone into the inner hall, he had no choice but to wait there.
"Mr. Delfina, I'm sorry, I was in the restroom when you were looking for me…"
Verruckt had just started speaking when Delfina gestured for him to stop, "No matter, let's talk on the way."
In the Rolls-Royce on the road.
Verruckt sat in the driver's seat, driving for Delfina.
If people saw this scene, their jaws would drop. The wealthiest man in Ham City was driving for a young man.
Verruckt drove with concentration for a while and then, looking at Delfina in the rearview mirror, who appeared calm and composed, finally couldn't help asking, "Mr. Delfina, did you meet with Daffodil?"
Delfina nodded, "Yes, I met her."
"...Judging by your expression, did you and Daffodil have a pleasant conversation?" Verruckt asked again.
"It was fine. We've agreed to meet again at the Evans' main house in three days," Delfina said indifferently, "I didn't expect the father and daughter I had encountered before to be from the Evans family. Having saved her father before, this makes acquiring Evans Pharmaceutical much easier."
Relieved by Delfina's affirmative response, Verruckt breathed a sigh of relief, "That's great. I didn't expect Mr. Delfina and the Evans family to have such a connection."
"With this, the collaboration between Heaven Corporation and the Evans family will be much simpler. The plan you had, Mr. Delfina, to find a reputable pharmaceutical company for your business will also go smoothly."
While speaking, he praised Daffodil, "I heard that Daffodil severely disciplined the arrogant Fanix. The Miss of the Evans family indeed has a sense of justice, capable of supporting what's right over family ties."
Verruckt naturally assumed that Daffodil's respect for Delfina today was due to Dawson having saved her father, and this gratitude led Daffodil to support Dawson instead of Fanix Evans.
Little did Verruckt know that Daffodil's impartiality had little to do with gratitude; it was simply because of Delfina's formidable strength.
