chapter 8 Your words are too far-fetched ===

by Luke 18:12,Dec 29,2023
"Grandpa, Ulric's here!"
Wilma stepped forward and whispered.
Upon hearing the name Ulric, Flynn slowly opened his eyes, and the rocking chair stopped swaying.
Wilma, being quite sensible, turned off the radio and took it back inside the house.
Her series of actions truly befitted a wealthy and cultured young lady.
Flynn appraised Ulric, finding him much more pleasing than Young Master Gentry, also known as Wilder.
"Sir, how are you feeling?"
Ulric spoke first, and Flynn nodded. "Young man, your medical skills are far superior to those renowned experts."
Ulric smiled modestly. "Thank you."
His modesty, combined with confidence, pleased Flynn even more.
"Ulric, I've brought you a chair."
As they conversed, Wilma came out of the house. Flynn suddenly felt that they made a good match.
After Wilma returned to the house, Flynn teased Ulric. "My granddaughter has never been so polite to any other man."
Glancing at Wilma's retreating figure, Ulric chuckled. "Is that so? I guess I'm quite lucky then?"
"I don't know about luck, but I'd like to know how you managed to help me."
Erm...
Ulric couldn't hide the truth and explained about the venom and antidote. However, he didn't mention the events of the past month.
Upon hearing this, Flynn didn't react much. Instead, he squinted and asked Ulric, "You didn't tell me everything, did you?"
Ulric hesitated.
It seemed that with age came a sharper eye. Eventually, he disclosed everything about the past month.
After hearing the whole story, Flynn didn't worry. Instead, he laughed heartily. "I knew you were hiding something from me."
As the laughter faded, a look of reluctance towards the world crept into his expression. "One month is enough. Even if we can't find the culprit, it's better to die than to live in pain every day."
"However, my only regret is that I may not live to see my precious granddaughter marry her ideal husband."
Seeing his pessimism, Ulric scratched his nose and said, "You're being too pessimistic. Finding the real culprit within a month shouldn't be too difficult for the Dun Family."
Flynn sighed and shook his head. "Some things are just up to fate."
Ulric smiled and didn't say much more.
When Flynn fell asleep, Ulric and Wilma left the hall together.
"Miss Dun, if there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now."
"Ulric, what did you and my grandfather talk about?"
"Nothing much, just some casual conversation."
Seeing that he didn't want to elaborate, Wilma didn't press further. "In that case, let me walk you out."
"No need, I can manage on my own."
Ulric intended to leave when he coincidentally encountered Wilder walking into the yard.
Seeing Ulric and Wilma together, Wilder, who had been in high spirits, suddenly lost his mood.
"Wilder, nice to see you again."
Ulric greeted him with a half-smile, but Wilder was still unhappy and turned to Wilma, "Wilma, what's he doing here?"
Wilma didn't want to engage with him and said to Ulric, "Ulric, you should head back. I'll come find you later."
"Okay, then I will leave first!"
With a smirk, Ulric walked past Wilder, irritating him to no end.
"Wilder, what are you doing here?"
Ulric had barely left when Wilma impatiently questioned Wilder.
Wilder's face turned ugly. 'Wilma, I... I came to check on Old Master Dun."
"There's no need. My grandfather has already gone to sleep. If you have nothing else, stay away from me," Wilma said, not wanting to waste words with him, and turned back to her room.
"Wilma..."
Watching her retreating figure without looking back, Wilder felt a deep hatred for Ulric's appearance.
Before, Wilma used to talk to him, but since she met that bumpkin, she became indifferent to him. Just the thought of it made Wilder turn to chase after Ulric.
"Bumpkin, hold it right there."
In the alley, Ulric intended to say goodbye to Mabel at Bloomfield Villa. However, Wilder called out to him from behind.
"What's up?'"
Wilder walked up with a dark expression. "Bumpkin, what are you doing looking for Wilma?"
"How is that any of your business?"
"How is it not? Let me tell you, from now on, stay away from her."
"Oh? And why is that?"
"Because she's the woman I like. I won't allow you to get close to her."
Ulric found this reason amusing and rubbed his nose. "Wilder, isn't that a bit far-fetched?"
"Even if it is, it's better than you hovering around her. Bumpkin, she's mine, and I don't want your presence to influence her worldview."
Ulric was speechless.
How did this turn into a discussion about worldviews?
Seeing his stubbornness, Ulric didn't want to argue further. "Well, I have things to do. Let's talk another time."
As Ulric prepared to leave, Wilder wasn't ready to give up. "Bumpkin, let me give you a word of advice: take care of yourself."
"Alright, then let me give you one too: instead of being jealous of a bumpkin like me, be sincere and treat people with kindness."
Watching his retreating figure, Wilder's face turned livid.
Jealous of a bumpkin?
Treat people with kindness?
"Humph, he's just a bumpkin. How could I ever be kind-hearted?"
Ulric didn't care who he was. Right now, all he wanted was to say hello to Mabel and return to Niells Village.
But when he returned to Bloomfield Boulevard, the security guard invited him to the security room.
"Sir, why stop me again?"
The guard hurriedly explained, "Bro Ulric, how dare I? Miss Flores asked me to give you a message."
"Oh? What's the message?"
"She said, if you come back, she wants you to go directly to the Flores Group."
Ulric was puzzled. "Is she there?"
"She should be, after all, she's the CEO of Flores Group."
Ulric nodded. "Alright, I got it. Thanks, Sir."
Half an hour later, at the Flores Group building, Ulric stood in front, stunned.
He was considering whether to go in and say goodbye to her when a sudden screech of brakes sounded behind him. Immediately after, a well-dressed man got out of the car, holding flowers, and barged in.
"Move, move, don't block the way!"
Before Ulric could react, the man had pushed him aside with an extremely arrogant attitude.
The guard, seeing his arrival, hurried forward to greet him. "Mr. Bald, why are you here?"
"Can't I come?"
The guard explained with a smile, "Don't say that. Who dares to stop Mr. Bald wherever he wants to go? However, our CEO instructed that she... she's not seeing any visitors."
"Am I considered a visitor?"
The guard looked bitter, "You're certainly not considered a visitor, but when the CEO speaks, us employees have to abide by it, right?"
The man let out a long sigh, "That's quite reasonable. But what if I insist on going in?"
"Mr. Bald, aren't you making it difficult for me?"
"Difficult for you? Are you worthy?" Mr. Bald's face darkened. "Others may be fine, but you, a mere gatekeeper, dare to act tough? Get out of my way."
The guard's face turned ugly, but he didn't dare to intervene.
As Mr. Bald walked in, Ulric attempted to follow, but the guard stopped him.
"What's this? You're stopping me too?"
