At this moment, Verdell turned to ask Corentin, "What's your name and where do you work?"
"I'm Corentin, and I work at Soaring Group."
"I didn't expect you to be a white-collar worker," Verdell chuckled. "I have many activities in Kangserene and will be staying for several more days. When can I treat you to a meal as a thank you for saving me today?"
Corentin couldn't be bothered to explain that he was just a security guard. As for the meal, he quickly waved his hand and said, "I think it's better to forget about it."
Verdell was momentarily speechless. She was always surrounded by people, countless people wanted to treat her to a meal, but they could never succeed. And now, when she wanted to treat someone to a meal, she was abruptly rejected.
At this moment, Verdell felt a bit wronged. Her eyes were watery as she stared at Corentin, as if saying, "If you don't agree, I'll cry."
"Alright, I agree," Corentin was most afraid of girls crying. After all, the beauty in front of him was an international superstar. If he made her cry, it would be a big problem.
"What's your phone number?"
"I don't know my phone number."
"I don't believe you!"
"It's true, even more valuable than gold!"
Corentin was telling the truth. With his lazy personality, he didn't bother to remember his own phone number.
"Then remember my number. It's 159xxxxxxx," Verdell said, and her phone rang as she finished speaking.
"My agent is waiting for me, I have to go. Remember to call me," Verdell said charmingly after answering the phone.
Corentin watched her slender and graceful figure, unable to divert his gaze for a moment.
He didn't know if she was just giving him a "good person card" or if she really wanted to treat him to a meal. Corentin pondered silently, but he didn't even bother to remember her phone number.
He was about to start living together with his wife, and he didn't know what their future days would be like. Corentin didn't want to invite any more trouble.
Verdell's graceful figure had already disappeared. Corentin thought about how he hadn't sent money to his mother yet, so he went to another bank to send the money.
In the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Municipal Police Department, Cloris sat in the office, tapping the desk lightly with a pen in her hand. She had a belly full of doubts. Those two robbers didn't seem to faint suddenly due to some illness, and it was impossible for them to faint at the same time by coincidence.
At that moment, a knock on the door sounded.
Cloris immediately became alert and called out, "Come in."
Vigil, the deputy captain of the Criminal Investigation Brigade, walked in from outside. "Captain, the test results are out. They didn't faint, but were struck by an external force and fell, with two ribs broken for each of them."
Cloris's beautiful eyes widened. "What external force?"
"The doctor said it might be an elbow."
"Elbow?!" Cloris was taken aback. "To break two ribs with an elbow, it would require a great amount of force. Moreover, the robbers had no chance to fight back. What's even more terrifying is that two robbers were knocked down simultaneously. The speed…"
Cloris rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on. It all seemed so inexplicable.
"Did you ask the witnesses at the scene if they saw anyone approaching the two robbers?"
"According to a few people, the two robbers had taken someone hostage, the person you had pointed your gun at."
"It's him!" Cloris gritted her teeth at the thought of him. That damn rogue had slipped away before she had a chance to teach him a lesson.
He seemed to be a hidden master.
After transferring the money to his mother's account in the countryside, Corentin sat on the bed in his rented room and dialed his mother's phone number. The phone just made two beeping sounds before the call connected.
"Mom, it's me," Corentin said. "I received my salary from last month and transferred 700 dollars into your account. Go to the bank and check if it's been deposited."
A warm voice came from the other end of the phone. "Corentin, your father and I have enough money to use. Don't send money to me anymore. Keep it for yourself and don't be too stingy with yourself."
Corentin chuckled. "Mom, I'm just afraid of spending money recklessly. I trust you to keep the money for me."
"Alright, Mom will keep it for you. With the money we've saved over the years, it should be enough for you to find a wife in the village," Corentin's mother laughed happily. Her son had grown sensible.
Corentin's breath hitched. If he told his mother that he was already married, he didn't know how she would react.
"Is it that stinky brat calling? Give me the phone!" At that moment, a deep roar came from the other end of the phone.
Corentin quickly hung up upon hearing his father's voice. His father, named Arvid, was also a military man. When Corentin was expelled from the army, it nearly made his father cough up blood in anger. Moreover, when Corentin returned home for the first time, his father almost killed him with a kitchen knife.
Since then, Corentin quickly left home and wandered in the city for a year. It was only recently, under the connections of his parents, that he found a job as a security guard at Soaring Group.
For the honorable retired soldier Arvid, he placed great importance on the honor of being a military personnel. This brat, on the other hand, was expelled from the army, which almost drove him to his death.
"Look at you, scaring our son to the point of hanging up the phone," Corentin's mother, Mistral, furrowed her brows and glared at Arvid.
Arvid snorted heavily. "This brat, if I see him, I won't stop until I beat him to death!"
"If you want to beat my son, you'll have to beat me first," Mistral's eyebrows furrowed in anger.
Arvid was taken aback for a moment, then quickly changed his expression, smiling faster than flipping through a book. "My dear wife, how could I ever hit you? It's just that I'm frustrated. This damn brat, what on earth did he do to deserve being expelled from the army? I asked him, but he won't say. Do you think he's trying to drive me to death?"
"Arvid, Corentin has always been sensible since he was young. I believe he definitely didn't do anything wrong. Perhaps he has his own reasons that he can't speak of. He will tell us the truth when the time comes," Mistral understood Arvid, who had officially retired from the army, and knew how much he valued a soldier's honor. Their son being expelled from the army was a huge disgrace.
Arvid murmured, "I hope so. Right now, I just hope he gets married soon and gives me a chubby grandson."
Mistral nodded. "Yes, in a few days, I'll go find the matchmaker in our village and find some potential candidates for him. Then we can arrange for him to come back for a blind date!"
"That's a good idea. It's better to prevent him from being dazzled by the big city and looking down on rural girls. Our family's conditions are not enough to marry a city girl!" Arvid looked at his empty arm and shook his head with a sigh.
Today was his day off as usual. Although the salary and benefits of being a security guard at Soaring Group were far from those of a regular white-collar worker, he still had two days off every week, which was considered quite good treatment.
At this moment, Corentin sat in Mirela's Range Rover. Early in the morning, he had returned the rented room, packed his belongings, and got into Mirela's car.
The rented room only had a worn-out bed and a rickety wardrobe, all provided by the landlord. Therefore, Corentin simply packed his clothes and daily necessities into his suitcase.
Mirela focused on driving, her face still somewhat cold. Corentin thought about spending two years with her and felt a headache coming on. Dealing with someone as cold as a refrigerator every day, as if he owed her money, who could bear it? When getting married, it would be better to marry someone gentle and virtuous.
