Chapter 22 Finding a Job

She reported her name to the front desk.

The front desk led her backstage.

“Are you the new makeup artist? Come here quickly.” A man with a manager work tag, waved at Helen after listening to the front desk. After his eyes scanned her from head to toe, he looked at her suspiciously.

“Do the makeup for her. She needs to look fresh and refined!” He instructed as he pointed at the sexy woman in front of him. He gestured the person behind to bring the makeup case over.

Helen felt a bit nervous since this was the first time she did make up for a stranger. But, fortunately, under her mom’s pressure, she had gained a lot of skills.

Soon, the charming model immediately changed, under her hands.

The manager was casually talking to others. When he saw the model turned to face him, he immediately stood up, and walked around her. His eyes were flashing with a surprise, then he gave her a thumb. Helen let out a sigh of relief and gaining more confidence.

Perhaps, she’s not useless at all.

Later, she heard from the workers around her, that the original make-up artist broke up with her boyfriend two days ago, and committed suicide. So, she couldn’t do her job anymore.

Then, this competition is urgent and a capable makeup artist is also hard to find. The company could only hold on to faith and tried to post it online.

Later, Helen successfully helped several models to put on different makeup at the manager’s request, and the manager was very satisfied with it.

By the end of the day, he hired Helen, and got her to sign the contract.

He also randomly asked about from whom did Helen learn her makeup skill?

Thinking of her deceased mother, Helen shook her head, said that she learned it by herself, and didn’t want to talk further.

When she returned from the company, it was already 8 in the evening. When she got off from the bus, she unexpectedly saw Paddy was waiting at the bus stop, and she frowned, “Paddy, it’s already so late, why are you coming over?”

Looking at the familiar car that was parked nearby, Helen nodded at Paddy, “Uncle Zhang is old. Don’t keep doing this, after all, it’s been so late. It’s not safe for you to come out. Go home earlier.” Although Helen nagged at Paddy, her heart moved when she saw Paddy.

Paddy didn’t explain, and rushed directly into her arms, “Helen, I missed you. I’m also worried about you. So, I came over to see you.” After speaking, he kept rubbing against her.

His cute manner made Helen felt soft and she stretched her hands to hug him.

“Well, I got a job. This Saturday, I’ll accompany you, OK?”

“Really? You’re kinda stupid. What can you do?” Paddy poked his head out of Helen’s arm. Although he frowned, there’s a smile in his eyes.

“Paddy Davis, if you say I’m stupid again, I won’t accompany you anymore this Saturday.” Helen felt very speechless, as her own son frowned on her stupidity.

As they spoke, Helen took Paddy, and walked towards the parking spot.

Surprisingly, the one sitting in the driver’s seat, was Antony Davis.

After remembering what happened last time, her face blushed, then she glared at him. That day, she saw that he was shameless.

After the window rolled down, Antony pointed the back seat at Paddy, gesturing him to get into the car.

But when he saw Helen, his face was expressionless.

Helen was going to say hello. But, as her words reached her lips, she swallowed them back. This man is really…

“Dad, Helen has found a job. I’ve told you that she definitely is definitely not some kind of dumb girl.” Paddy talked to Anthony as he got in the car, his face was full of pride.

Helen rolled her eyes. This son of hers, the ability to tell lies without blinking an eye, who did he inherit this trait from?

A few moments ago, he still obviously teased her for being stupid…

However, she still felt warmth in her heart. There’s such a kind of person, where he could belittle the one that he likes, but didn’t let the others say anything bad about that person.

As the car started, she stepped back, and waved at Paddy.

“Helen, can you accompany me for dinner? I’m so hungry. After you left, I couldn’t even eat anything.” After Paddy finished speaking, Antony turned his head, and frowned. Then, who the hell ate half of the cake before coming here?

However, he looked ahead and said nothing.

Helen glanced at Antony who was sitting in front, and saw that he didn’t give any response.

“Paddy, why don’t you go with Dad. I still need to work tomorrow!”

Paddy let out a sigh, looked up at her, and lowered his head. Helen’s eyes turned red by looking at his pitiful look.

She took a deep breath, opened the car door, and sat at the back seat.

“Helen, are you joining us?” Paddy’s happiness was beyond words. Helen’s slender fingers were buried in his soft hair, and she pulled him into her arms, “Don’t do this anymore, okay?”

Paddy nudged in her arms, “Helen, I’ll obey your words in the future. Last time it was my mistake, that you slept together with Dad. Don’t be angry with me anymore, okay?”

Helen’s face turned red at once. She wondered if this kid did it on purpose? Didn’t he already apologize for so many times? Why did he bring it up again now, in front of Antony?

Suddenly, the uncomfortable air inside the car, turned really awkward.

As Helen bit her lips, she didn’t know how to respond Paddy.

“After finished eating with Paddy, I will send Ms. Brown back.” Antony, who didn’t say anything before, suddenly spoke.

When Helen heard she was referred to as Ms. Brown, there’s a strange feeling in her heart. Anyhow, she didn’t feel awkward anymore and became relieved.

The car stopped in front of a Hong Kong styled tea house/restaurant.

“Daddy, how do you know that I want to eat here?” After getting off the car, Paddy pulled Antony’s hand, and asked excitedly.

Antony glared at him, “Be careful, don’t eat too much”

Paddy stuck his tongue at him, turned around, and took Helen’s hand. He looked up and recommended the delicious dish to her.

Antony must be a frequent visitor. As they stepped inside, he was greeted by a person in charge, bowed at him, and said, “Mr. Davis, it’s an honor to have you here today.”

As the man spoke, he led the way, and all of them went directly to the second floor. Helen looked at the hall full of people. She didn’t wonder how Antony could get a seat before making an appointment. Both of them are living in a different world.

“Helen, try this, and this.’ Paddy gave a lot of dishes to Helen.

On the contrary, he didn’t eat much.

“Paddy, why don’t you eat? Didn’t you say that you are hungry?” Helen asked in confusion after putting a piece of green tea cake in her mouth.

Paddy didn’t answer. He picked up the tissue, stood up, stretched his small hand, and wiped the green tea powder at the corner of Helen’s lips.

“Helen, actually, I heard your stomach rumbling. So, I lied to you.” Paddy blinked his small eyes and looked at Helen, “When I hugged you, I heard your stomach rumbling.” He then added.

Helen quivered and was moved to tears.

After putting down her chopsticks, she held Paddy in her arms, “Paddy… thank you for being so kind to Helen.” She looked up but couldn’t stop the tears.

“Helen, since I'll always listen to you, you definitely won’t abandon me, right?”

Helen nodded.

“In the future, if you are married and have a child on your own, you will still love Paddy, right?”

Helen felt so sorry and couldn’t describe with words. She couldn’t help but cried.

“Paddy…” She said his name, but couldn’t say anything else, as she was choked with tears.

“Helen, they said that my mother doesn’t want me anymore. I don’t have a mother. I want you as my mother but Daddy doesn’t like you. You also do not like Daddy. Paddy doesn’t know what to do anymore…” After speaking this, Paddy also sobbed.

Antony took a sip of the tea while looking at the big and small ones burst into tears.

He frowned. Seemed like he underestimated Paddy’s feeling for this woman.

“Paddy, good boy, Miss Gao will be your mother in the future. She will love you as much as I do.” Helen pushed him away from her arms, then took the tissue, and gently wiped the tears off his face.

Paddy just shook his head and said nothing.

Helen pulled him back into her arms, closed her eyes, and said nothing.

“Have you finished eating yet? If you’re finished, let’s go.” Her tears made Antony somewhat a bit irritated.
