chapter 14 You are the knife!

Inside the CEO's private elevator, Leila stood by the edge, positioned in a corner, with a somewhat evasive gaze towards Titus.
"This thing is too dirty, I'm afraid."
"Earlier, that sissy said he was pursuing you only to divide your wealth and achieve class leap. He also warned me that if I dared to mess up his plans, he would sink me into the sea," Titus said abruptly.
"Oh." Leila didn't take it to heart, she wasn't foolish enough to not see through Sonny's vile thoughts.
"Aren't you going to take a stand?" Titus raised an eyebrow.
Leila responded indifferently, "He's coming to the office to find me later, you should come too."
"Why should I come? To watch you flirt? Or to let him humiliate me?" Titus said in a deep voice. "Leila, you're really good at using others to do your dirty work!"
Facing Titus's denunciation, Leila remained unflustered, her lips slightly parting to say, "That's modest of you, you're the knife."
"What do you mean? Using me? Wanting to use me as cannon fodder?" Titus said indignantly. "Leila, you look decent, but turns out you're really cunning?"
Leila's expression stiffened, and she didn't respond.
She had seen through Titus, just like water in a sponge, you touch him slightly, and he's ready to spray to death!
The reason she invited Titus too was mainly due to family relations and partnership identities, she couldn't always avoid Sonny.
But seeing him, she really disliked his sanctimonious hypocrisy.
So, Leila thought of this strategy, fighting poison with poison.
You, Sonny, are eloquent, right? Today, let you see what real trash-talking is!
"If you want my help, you have to promise me one thing," Titus found an excuse as she didn't respond. "I have a video chat with my aunt tonight. I'm a bit nervous, so you will accompany me."
"Okay," Leila nodded indifferently.
Just as Titus was about to remind her what to say when she meets the aunt, the elevator doors opened with a ding.
Since it was a direct elevator and the CEO's office area, there weren't many people around. Those few subordinates that passed by all nodded and bowed to Leila, with both respect and gossip in their eyes.
But upon a detailed look at the ordinary Titus, they showed contempt mixed with a bit of disappointment.
"Back when I used to drink with a few veterans from the Northern Savage Army, they shared an experience with me," Titus calmly said. "If someone is not serious about their work and keeps staring at you, they're definitely an undercover."
"Those few who were staring at me earlier, you should check on them, at least two of them were involved in planning the ambush you encountered before," Titus asserted confidently.
Accustomed to such matters, Leila couldn't be bothered to entertain him and pushed the door to enter her office.
The CEO's office was luxuriously decorated, with an excellent view. Standing in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling windows looking down, all beings seemed like ants.
"No wonder you always act so superior and look down on others," Titus stood with his hands behind his back, looking at the people below and sighed. "I can't blame you, even I, a heart-as-steady-as-a-rock veteran from the Northern Savage Army, feel somewhat inflated standing here."
Leila didn't speak, opening her notebook to review several internal documents.
Titus, having nothing else to do, started to observe the office's decoration style.
Two words to describe it, sharp and cold.
Despite being spacious and grand, it made one not want to stay longer, slightly eerie.
Knock, knock.
Someone knocked on the door, and Leila, without lifting her head, said, "Come in."
The domineering CEO aura was unmistakable.
The person who came in was none other than Sonny, who had just received a severe warning from Titus.
As soon as he entered the room, he saw Titus walking around, a flash of coldness passed through his eyes, but he directly bypassed Titus and sat opposite Leila.
"Ms. Hodges, my main purpose of coming to Jorkeyn Group this time is to seek your advice on a work matter," Sonny said humbly.
"What is it?" Leila still didn't look up at him, her cold face showing no emotion.
"This…" Sonny hesitated, glanced at Titus with an obvious intent to dismiss him.
"He is also a member of the company, there's nothing to hide," Leila said indifferently. "Speak your mind."
Sonny was filled with resentment. Leila, really not consider this grandson as an outsider, do you? What, are you planning to rekindle the past?
"It's like this, the demolition work at Happy Village Road was suddenly halted last night. I looked into it, and it turns out it was Jorkeyn Group's decision."
Sonny hesitated, then diplomatically said, "There's an old saying, 'When the machine roars, gold flows.' But with this halt, our daily losses exceed a million. I just wanted to consult with Ms. Hodges on why the halt was suddenly called."
"There's no specific reason, just found it too noisy," Leila said coldly.
Too noisy?
Are you eavesdropping?
The demolition area is miles away from the Hodges family, how could it bother you?
Sonny couldn't accept this reason. He became contemplative and started to press harder, "Ms. Hodges, although the demolition project is led by Jorkeyn Group, there are five or six collaborating companies involved, and even government agencies have stepped in. We must give an explanation to them, we can't just stop abruptly."
Before coming, Sonny had planned to strongly support Leila, to let Leila know how well he thought of her, and then to take out a pass as a gesture to win her heart.
But Titus's appearance took him off-balance.
He began to make a fuss over it.
Seeing Sonny getting a bit too serious, Leila slightly raised her eyes and said, "The entire relocation was negotiated by Jorkeyn Group and the officials, the land was acquired with Jorkeyn Group's funds, and even the demolition work is being handled by Jorkeyn Group."
"What's wrong with Jorkeyn Group calling a halt? Is the lost money coming out of your pocket? Or is it the responsibility of those who used connections to get involved?" Leila's attitude was strong.
Sonny was stunned, not expecting this woman to turn her face so directly!
He felt a bit embarrassed, but in terms of power, the Simpson family definitely couldn't compete with the Hodges family. Even in this project, he was only assisting from the side, not the main force.
The reason he was a partner was simply to get closer to Leila and build a relationship. His family had even promised him that if he could win over Leila, he would be the unquestionable next head of the Simpson family.
Taking a deep breath to calm the turmoil inside, Sonny managed a slight smile, about to take out the pass to appease Leila, when Titus, who had been loitering around, suddenly spoke up, "Ms. Hodges, just say what you want, why get so angry."
With that, Titus walked over, unable to hide his amusement, "Here's the thing, last night Ms. Hodges insisted on staying over at my place, which happens to be in the demolition area. Ms. Hodges is a light sleeper and was troubled all night, so she made a call to halt the work."
"Principally speaking, this is my fault," Titus said, taking responsibility.
