After leaving the hospital, Robert Li hurriedly went to the sub-bureau where Alex Ye was detained. The police officers at the sub-bureau were all surprised to see their leader suddenly arrive. Chief Yue Hu was even more flustered, unable to understand why Robert Li had come so suddenly, so he followed him, trying to please him.
Robert Li didn't beat around the bush and went straight to the point, asking, "Where is the suspect Alex Ye, whom you had arrested yesterday?"
Chief Yue Hu anxiously glanced at Steven Sun beside him, clearly not knowing anything about the matter. He quickly signalled him to come forward and speak. Steven Sun, understanding Yue Hu's intention, hurriedly stepped forward and said, "Director Li, the suspect named Alex Ye is being held in the security cell for major crimes committed."
"What?" Robert Li was greatly surprised. Alex Ye was only involved in a minor public order case. Although his behaviour was a bit unruly due to his identity, the arrest was handled by the criminal investigation team. It shouldn't have resulted in him being held with murderers. Having started as a low-ranking police officer, Robert Li naturally understood that they were intentionally making things difficult for Alex Ye. He angrily shouted, "This is outrageous! How can you detain an ordinary suspect in a security cell for major crimes committed? Whose idea was this?"
Chief Yue Hu had never seen his superior so angry before, and he was instantly drenched in cold sweat. He glared at Steven Sun and said, "Who suggested detaining the suspect in the security cell for major crimes committed?"
Steven Sun quickly replied, "It was Captain Yang's suggestion!"
Robert Li naturally didn't know who Captain Yang was. He looked at Yue Hu in confusion, and Yue Hu hurriedly explained, "Joseph Yang is the captain in charge of security in this area."
Robert Li gave a cold snort and said, "We'll settle this later. Where's the detention room? Take me there now!"
"Yes, yes!" Chief Yue Hu said repeatedly. "Director Li, this way, please!" But in his heart, he cursed Joseph Yang fiercely. This was just causing trouble for him. He couldn't understand why Robert Li was so concerned about this case. Such things were not uncommon in the police station. He didn't believe that Robert Li was genuinely acting for the people, selflessly and impartially. The only explanation was that there was some kind of relationship between Alex Ye and Robert Li.
When Robert Li and Chief Yue Hu arrived at the entrance of the detention room, they were both shocked by the scene before them. Inside the cell, a policewoman in uniform was being pressed down on a bed by a man, their actions overtly suggestive. All the other inmates in the cell were wide-eyed, staring in astonishment, while outside the cell, a male police officer showed no intention of intervening, instead watching as if it were a show.
This was a moral decay, a sign of the times. Such things shouldn't be happening even within the walls of a police station. It was truly bewildering.
Chief Yue Hu was equally stunned. Robert Li didn't recognize the female officer, but he did. She was the famous tough female cop in the police station, Abigail Wang. He couldn't fathom how she could be involved in such a situation within the police station. Could it be that her previous demeanour was all an act, and she was actually a very lascivious woman? But now wasn't the time to think about these things. His superior was right beside him, and explaining this situation to Robert Li later would be tricky.
"Ahem!" Seeing that neither of them had noticed their arrival, Chief Yue Hu cleared his throat solemnly.
Captain Joseph Yang was the first to react. Seeing that it was Chief Yue Hu and Robert Li, he couldn't help but be greatly surprised. He saluted and said, "Director Li, Chief Hu."
Upon hearing Captain Joseph Yang's voice from outside, Alex Ye smiled faintly and released Abigail Wang. However, as soon as he let go, Abigail Wang slapped at him. Fortunately, Alex Ye reacted quickly and grabbed her wrist, saying, "Had enough?"
"Alex Ye, I'll kill you!" Abigail Wang angrily shouted.
"Abigail Wang, stop causing trouble, behave yourself!" Chief Yue Hu sternly ordered.
Abigail Wang was resentful, but she couldn't go too far in front of her superiors. She gave Alex Ye a fierce glare, got up, and walked out. Alex Ye shrugged helplessly and turned around.
"Who is Alex Ye?" Chief Yue Hu asked.
But before Alex Ye could respond, Robert Li suddenly rushed forward, embracing Alex Ye and excitedly saying, "Second Brother!"
This left Chief Yue Hu and Captain Joseph Yang completely stunned. The suspect they had arrested turned out to be the older brother of the director of the district public security bureau. And they had even attempted to deal with Alex Ye in such a way. They were afraid their careers were now in jeopardy. Thinking of the instigator of this matter, Chief Yue Hu glared fiercely at Captain Joseph Yang. Joseph Yang, on the other hand, had no words to express his bitterness. How could he have known that Alex Ye had such a powerful backer?
The other inmates in the cell were equally astonished. So, the formidable leader was actually the older brother of the director of the district public security bureau. That explained his arrogance.
After the plaintiff was no longer available, the case was naturally dropped, and Alex Ye was released from the police station. Amidst the fearful and secretly relieved farewells of Chief Yue Hu and the other police officers, Alex Ye got into Robert Li's car and left the police station. Robert Li didn't seem to hold any grudges against them for detaining Alex Ye, nor did he reprimand them. This made them breathe a sigh of relief. Whether there would be consequences later, they weren't sure. But for now, they had temporarily passed the test.
Sitting in the car, Robert Li turned to look at Alex Ye and said, "Second Brother, why didn't you inform me when you came back?"
"I had just returned a few days ago, and I didn’t have a chance to contact you yet," Alex Ye smiled and said, "Little Third, I've caused you trouble this time."
"Second Brother, you shouldn't say that. If it weren't for me back then, you wouldn't have had to leave your hometown and go to another city. It was my fault," Robert Li said with guilt.
"We're brothers, why say such things? I'm doing well now," Alex Ye patted Robert Li's shoulder and said.
"Second Brother, do you have any plans now that you're back?" Robert Li asked.
"I'm not sure yet, we'll see," Alex Ye said.
Robert Li nodded and said, "We haven't seen each other in a long time. I'll treat you to lunch, consider it a welcome back. I have a lot to talk to you about. Oh, and bring Big Brother along. Let's have a good reunion."
"Let's go to the hospital first. Dad must be worried sick," Alex Ye said.
"Yes, yes," Robert Li suddenly realized that Alex Ye was too excited and had forgotten that their father was still in the hospital. As his adopted son, it was only right to pay him a visit. It would also let him know that Alex Ye was safe and sound, preventing unnecessary worry.
Before long, they arrived at the People's Hospital. Alex Ye and Robert Li walked straight toward the hospital. At the door of their father's ward, they coincidentally ran into Lily Lin. Seeing Alex Ye, Lily Lin hurriedly came over, worriedly asking, "I heard that you were taken away by the police. Are you okay?"
