When Mila received the pregnancy test report, a surge of pleasant surprise washed over her. She was carrying Edwin's child! After three years of marriage, this moment was a hard-fought victory for Mila. She walked out, eager to share the good news with Edwin. But as she turned the corner, she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure. Could it be Carrie? Edwin's first love? She's back!
Mila hastened her steps, only to discover that Edwin, who should have been at the company, was by Carrie's side, attentively supporting her. Carrie's belly, clearly, already showed the signs of a five-month pregnancy.
"Edwin, I'm fine. No need to be so anxious. The child is perfectly fine," Carrie assured.
"It's better to be thorough. The child in your womb is the eldest grandson of the Ye family, after all. We can't afford any mistakes," Edwin replied, his tone now serious.
Carrie's smile radiated like a flower, while Edwin exuded a gentle aura. This sight cut deep into Mila's heart.
"What's going on?" Mila suddenly clenched the pregnancy test report, her nails piercing through the paper, but the pain was nothing compared to the ache in her heart. She had struggled through countless challenges to conceive, almost losing her life several times. And now, on the day she learned of her pregnancy, she discovered Carrie carrying Edwin's child.
"Why are you here?" Edwin's brows furrowed, the tender gaze he'd had moments ago now replaced by a sharp and cold look. The atmosphere around him seemed to chill.
Witnessing this abrupt change, Mila couldn't help but confront him. "Why am I here? Edwin, I am your wife. And here you are, accompanying another woman for a pregnancy check-up. Yet you dare to question why I'm here?"
Her words drew the attention of the onlookers.
Carrie suddenly burst into tears, appearing distressed. "Edwin, I'm sorry. It's my fault for causing you trouble. If I hadn't returned and told you about this child, or if I had ruthlessly terminated the pregnancy, maybe Mila wouldn't have misunderstood me. I'm sorry, it's all my fault."
With that, Carrie turned and fled.
"Tom, follow Miss Chu and be careful of her belly. If anything happens to the child inside, you'll answer me," Edwin's voice was filled with worry, and his assistant, Tom, swiftly followed.
Mila felt breathless. Edwin had never shown her such concern.
"Edwin, you heartless scoundrel!"
She raised her hand to slap Edwin with force, but he intercepted her. The slight pressure on her hand made Mila wince in pain.
"Mila, when you climbed into my bed three years ago and forced me to marry you, you should have known that I couldn't give you the love you wanted in this marriage. I'm warning you, the child in Carrie's belly is very precious, and it is the bloodline of our Ye family. If you dare to harm her in any way, don't blame me for not prioritizing our marital ties," Edwin's voice was stern.
After delivering this warning, he pushed Mila away. She stumbled, nearly falling. She caught herself against the wall, but the pregnancy test report slipped from her hand and fluttered in front of Edwin.
"You're pregnant?" Edwin's eyes widened in surprise.
Mila laughed, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Does it matter to you? I told you three years ago, but you didn't believe me. No matter how much I cared for you, you turned a blind eye. Now, your first love wants to give you a child. Edwin, I love you, but I also have my dignity and pride! I'll deal with this child on my own. It's time for us to end this."
Mila's heart ached, but she turned away and walked away with determination.
Edwin's eyes darkened. He swiftly approached, lifted Mila, and strode out of the hospital.
"Mila, who do you think you are? You were the one who forced me into this marriage. Now you accuse me of not wanting children. Do you think that I, Edwin, can be toyed with so easily? Let me make this clear, whether this child stays or goes, it's my decision!"
"Edwin, let me go! This is my child, and it has nothing to do with you!"
Mila struggled fiercely, but she couldn't break free from Edwin's grasp.
"Your child? Can you reproduce asexually without me? Mila, you'd better not provoke me right now!"
Edwin's captivating eyes narrowed, exuding a cold and oppressive aura, casting a heavy atmosphere.
Just then, his phone rang unexpectedly. To answer the call, Edwin let go of Mila momentarily, yet still controlled her with a possessive force.
Mila couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness. She often found herself hoping that Edwin cared for her, even if just a little like he seemed to do now.
"What did you say? Carrie wants to commit suicide? Watch over her. I'll be there right away!" Edwin's tone grew frantic, and Mila's recently warmed heart began to cool once more.
